awesome. Dark Souls' soundtrack really fit the game, even if it wasn't Motoi's signature sound. can't wait for the soundtrack (and game!)

Pack-in means that it's only sold as part of another package. This CD is only available with the Collector's Edition of the game, and since it is not sold separately, most of us won't be able to own it physically.

oh thank you for the Explanation. well stupid enough, i dont get it why they cut all the Songs in the middle. they could left some Songs out ( stupid too) but at least the tracks would be complete and would fit the cd.

Wait, so the digital version (Steam and other online stores) will have the CD itself, in digital format too?

Digital copies will have the CD as digital copy, as Steam says on the store page. You'll also get artbook + comic.

But that Black Armor edition is also avaible as physical PC copy.

I wonder if Sakuraba-san put some "Valkyrie Profile-ish" aura on this one like he did, yet briefly, in the first Dark Souls OST.

It's disappointing that this didn't get the same lush music production (no live instruments aside from what Sakuraba played himself) or tight sound direction of the previous Souls games. There are good tracks and all serviceable, but overall it's far less distinctive.

Edit: Warming up to the music, but the soundtrack is essentially worthless as nearly all tracks are cut short. Even without any looping an uncut full soundtrack would run half an hour longer.

"but the soundtrack is essentially worthless as nearly all tracks are cut short"

But it has 74 minutes according to the site, isn't that good? What do you mean by "cut short"? That the tracks don't loop? Or they don't even reach a "loop point"?

they not even reach the Loop Point. take "the old dragonslayer" as a example. on the Soundtrack ist 1.45 Long. but the complete Version is 4.00 minutes Long.

The "best" (worst) example is track 16 (Covetous Demon) which on the soundtrack is a 46 seconds clip while in game it takes a little longer than 3 minutes before it repeats. As I wrote before the soundtrack'd need to be ~104 minutes in length to cover all unique parts of the music, more with repeats and fades.

Someone should compare and make a list of the tracks that aren't cut short (may do it if noone beats me o it).

When I ripped my copy into iTunes, Yuka Kitamura came up as the artist for tracks 5, 6, 8, 10, 13, 14, 20, and 29. Can this be verified from any other source?

Yuka Kitamura is credited as Composer in FROM's Sound Designer section in the staff roll, there are plenty shorter and two longer ambient tracks not included on the CD. On 2ch someone mentioned the same tracks as you being credited to her on the Japanese(?) CD (though it doesn't sound like it was through the CD or its packaging but through CDDB, which may be the same source as for iTunes, no idea "CDドライブに入れたらこれがYuka kitamuraって出てきた").

something as detailed as Yuka's credits shouldn't be discounted IMO. the songs themselves do have a different vibe to them, but perhaps that's confirmation bias.

Through that the source can be some unchecked user contribution though. Maybe someone could ask Technouchi for confirmation either way?

So the limited, "exclusive" editions are all about the cloth map, the figurine, the weapon replicas, the artwork book... the OST is a rushed product...

Don't think it's rushed (the tracks are cut in a way it's not noticeable on their own that they are cut short). They apparently just didn't want to make it a 2 CD set the amount of music needed, or leave away any more tracks (aside the character creation theme again).

yes but still why no 2 cd set? 99 euro are expansive enough. or sell a Soundtrack with 2 CDs. i mean the cut in the middle is stupid. not even the intro movie Music is complete

It's an actual CD. CDDA.
North American version is the one to go with. Japanese is probably good too (don't think they'd fail themselves like that), but no confirmation on it yet.

Btw according to a person who owns the CD, the matrix code reads: DFM /CA - DARK SOULS 2 - 53087-1
Don't think any part of it is representative of an actual catalog number, except maybe 53087-1, but I'd leave that field blank.

Ok, then why the hell did they include a lossy MP3 CD in the European version? Why does Europe always get screwed over...
