So he's frequently cited as composer of DuckTales, but is there any actual confirmation?

He confirmed to me that he did not compose DuckTales.

I love that we're able to communicate with these old composers and figure stuff like this out!

Come to think of it, has Sakaguchi ever composed anything? It seems more and more like he was just a sound designer, and had nothing to do with music...

Well, I wasn't in direct communication with him, but there was a specialised meeting that he was involved in coordinated for SEMO by Akari Kaida and Ippo Yamada. That revealed quite a lot of nice things about old-school Capcom. Two group interviews relating to that should be going up some time next month. I think they're really nice, so hope everyone likes them too.

Your hypothesis is partly correct, but Sakaguchi did confirm he was completely responsible for the music and sound of the original Street Fighter and Final Fight. There are a lot of other credits with his name in, sometimes only his name in, but Sakaguchi denied his involvement composing them. It also appears that Sakaguchi headed up the Capcom sound team.

I was beginning to think the same thing, but as Chris said, he can at least be attributed to Street Fighter and Final Fight.

Looking forward to it! I want to know who did Final Fight 3. And a confirmation that Setsuo Yamamoto did X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse. And a confirmation that Yuki Iwai did Demon's Crest. And where Junko Tamiya disappeared to. Aaah, the list goes on.

By the way, what happened to the Ippo Yamada interview you had up the other month?

Haha, I'll see if one day I can get those questions answered. This interview was just with the early NES team, though.

The Ippo Yamada interview is going back up soon, but we're trying to make a few modifications and additions to it, given the original questions were sent out quite a bit before some things emerged. For example, I'm trying to get confirmation he did compose those Sega games.

I also would like to know who did the music for Magical Quest 2-3 and Marvel Super Heroes.

Cool. Thanks for the link. I still wonder if he was a lone wolf or if it was a collaboration, though.

Marvel Super Heroes was done by Takane Okubo.

Any word on who did? Or is this destined to be some grand eternal mystery buried in the annals of Capcom history?

Unfortunately not. Someone might know from Capcom, but nobody I'm in contact with.

I hope to publish the interview soon, but the approval process is a very long one.

Since The Moon contains a part similar to Quickman's laser beam in Rockman 2, my money's on Takeshi Tateishi (SE in Rockman 2).

Whoever said that Hiroshige Tonomura was the composer of DuckTales...

...was right. I asked Manami Matsumae on Facebook and she confirmed it. Another case put to rest. xD
