I'm not sure if there is any appropriate platform available for the SC-55 or MT-32 Version.

What do you mean? Platform is still X68000, with an SC55 or MT32 unit it just sends MIDI data to those MIDI units instead of or in addition to playing back sounds on the internal YM2151.

I must've misunderstood the meaning of MT-32 then. I was under the impression that the MT-32 was just an old sound card for IBM PCs during the late '80s and early '90s. Never mind me then.

MT32 is an external MIDI module. What you were thinking of is the MT32 compatible LAPC-I ISA card also by Roland.

This one came with the X68000 Castlevania music on the same disc.

I know it's been kind of reprinted with the Castlevania Chronicles album, but is there any chance we'll get the X68000 Castlevania again with Egg Records?

It was Gradius III that came with it: http://vgmdb.net/album/88

Did CDJapan make a mistake with their price? This is selling for 2,500 but they've listed it at 4,850...?

This release is exclusive so CDJapan doesn't sell it directly but with their special order service. There should be more details about the price in the description.

Ha yes you are right, it's a special request from a customer. Too bad, I'll have to order directly from EGG then.

So, which of the three audio options is already present in LC-1949~56?

The liner notes for this one look extremely insightful, I can only hope for a translation ^^

After listening to all four different versions, I would say the "MT-32 + FM Built-in Sound Source Version" is the one that best corresponds to the Gradius box.

Just how many audio expansions did the X68000 support? I thought these were the same as in KMCA-104~5 (by the way here's one good review), the Roland CM-64 "Linear Arithmetic" and the Roland SC-55 "General Standard", but no, this one has the MT-32.

So if the Gradius Box is similar to the MT-32, but not quite the same, what is it then? Puzzling.

The first recording actually is on KICA-7602. There is also one single track ("shop demo") in disc 10 of LC-2039~48. And one X68000 version is selectable in the sound test of the PSP Gradius Collection (again, which one?). Would be nice to assess these versions.

・FM音源版は今回初CD化。

"FM sound source version is on CD for the first time"

The differences could merely be the way they captured the audio, or mastered it afterwards (assuming they did), because I don't think they sound that different that it is an entirely different expansion that was used. It's just that when you compare the same tracks to each other, they don't sound exactly the same, but it's close.
