Post File size limit...

Hmmm...is it possible to raise the file size limit of scans to,like,8M?
I got some 600dpi double-page booklet scans at my hand and they are a little too big to fit in,and I have to chop them in half to upload.Call me a lazy ass,but that's really enough trouble that keeps me from uploading more scans.
Hope the mods will give it a think.
Thanks.

Can you resize them to 300dpi (i.e. 50%)? That's the recommended resolution limit, and should be easier to do than chopping the images up.

Otherwise, I could set you up with an FTP account so you can upload the images, and I'll process them myself.

Thanks for the reply,blah.
I always try to avoid degrade the scans especially when they are already in .jpg format.Looks like I need some third party file hosting service to deliver the original scan.
Any suggestions?

I usually cut the size in half with Photoshop.
It doesn't degrade quality much, really, while it drastically reduce its file size.
But this is something to do with pro-tools, not cheap image tools.

Well, I think that XnView does a fine job of it too, and it's free.

This^. The image your scanner gives you, just open it in photoshop and do a 'save as' - it should be able to reduce the filesize by 30-50% without any visible loss in image quality.

I don't think we need overly huge images resolution wise either. As long as you can read all the text that should be sufficient, no? If the shortest side of the image is 1000-1500 then that should be enough even for people using the highest resolution screens currently available.

Unless you have a cover with microscopic text on it, 300dpi should be enough to even read the smallest Kanji. You could also just try changing your printer settings to scan at 300dpi rather than 600dpi. Svae yourself a step. Also, use JPEG compression. "Good" (60% quality or higher) compression should still keep all text legible.

Just to make it clear: what is the exact file size limit right now? Or is it something that is evaluated on a per case basis? I have a couple of A4 scans (those of the mushihime-sama DVD) for upload which are in the 10meg range, and I was debating wether if I should resize them or not (they were scanned at 400 dpi).

I believe the file size limit is 5m.
I suggest you resize the file and,if possible, upload the original scan to some online album like Picasa then post the link here for those who want the scans to be as good as possible.
That's my 2 cents.
