That's totally unexpected an really cool. I wonder if this set will clarify the composer(s) of the new tracks for L1&2 PS. I wonder how Supersweep got involved?

So the completionist in me is SO psyched about this release. But, at the same time... why not get IV and V in there?

Or just, AT LEAST, get IV? Poor L4. Can't get a physical release.

Because technically Masaya had nothing to do with Langrisser IV and V. It's the same core people from Langrisser II and on, who eventually formed Career Soft which is how the team was known from Langrisser IV all the way through Growlanser VI. But the "Masaya" brand only goes through L3.

Career Soft (former Masaya developers, the Langrisser team) officially broke from publisher NCS after L5 and went to Atlus.

WANT!

Fun fact: The Langrisser series is one of the few sources of music that Jorm and I wholeheartedly agree on. As much as I love the Langrisser II album, the console versions of the music are a must-have.

Ye sure 'bout the release date, mates? I already got the stuff one month in advance, and everything is in accord with the data on VGMDB : CD number, track numbers, track names, scans, ... Ye sure it ain't 15 november instead of 15 december?

The official site linked on the album page says "pre-sale"/先行販売 (apparently not "pre-order" then?) started on November 6th, and December 15th is for the general availability.

Most likely the obi on the final product does say that December 15 is the official release date (the general availability date seems to be on most of the obi's that I have), but if you order directly from Supersweep starting on November 6th (or any of their presale dates for other albums), they'll mail it out then. The general availability is always for other online retailers (like Amazon Japan or CDJapan). However, in this particular case, they also sold it at the M3 event.

First shot at a tracklist, most of this is all katakana and simple words so it shouldn't be too difficult. Also, a significant number of the track titles are the same across the entire series. Notes below:

Quote:
01 Opening
02 Theme of Langrisser
03 Prologue
04 Your Army BGM 1
05 Your Army BGM 2
06 Your Army BGM 3
07 Enemy Army BGM 1
08 Enemy Army BGM 2
09 Enemy Army BGM 3
10 Scenario Ending
11 Game Over
12 Ending 1
13 Ending 2
14 Unused Music 1
15 Unused Music 2
16 Unused Music 3
17 Theme of Langrisser [Prologue]
18 Prologue
19 Your Army BGM 1 [Kingdom Knight]
20 Your Army BGM 2
21 Your Army BGM 3 [Sword of Holy]
22 Your Army BGM 4 [With Light]
23 Your Army BGM 5 [Breakthrough]
24 Enemy Army BGM 1
25 Enemy Army BGM 2 [Hard Battle]
26 Enemy Army BGM 3 [Scramble]
27 Enemy Army BGM 4
28 Scenario Ending
29 Game Over
30 Epilogue [Royal Guard]
31 Don't stop your dream
32 Unused Music
M04~06,19~23 I used "Your Army" since it means "One's own army or forces".
M19 I think "ナイト" is almost certainly "Knight" not "Night' given the setting of the series.

Disc 2
Quote:
01 Opening 1
02 Opening 2
03 Story
04 Ally 1 [Neo-Holy War]
05 Ally 2 [Knights errant]
06 Ally 3 [No Surrender]
07 Ally 4 [Fight It Out]
08 Ally 5 [The Legend of Sword]
09 Ally 6 [Soldier]
10 Ally 7 [Last Battle]
11 Allied Reinforcements [One's Side]
12 Enemy 1 Leon
13 Enemy 2 Vargas
14 Enemy 3 Morgan
15 Enemy 4 The Evil Person
16 Enemy 5 Egbert
17 Enemy 6 Imelda
18 Enemy 7 Dark Princess
19 Enemy 8 Böser
20 Enemy 9 Bernhardt
21 Enemy Reinforcements [Reinforce of Enemy]
22 Jessica
23 ANCIENT MAGIC
24 Liana
25 Shop
26 Ending 1
27 Ending 2 [A Story Forever]
28 Ending 4
29 Requiem
M04~M10 specifically used "Ally" (it's different from "Your Own" in Disc 1), I presume these are the tracks that play for you and your allies (as opposed to the "Enemy ..." tracks)
M15 邪悪なるもの could probably be "Someone Becoming Evil" or something like that but I looked up the track on one of the original albums (TYCY-5403) and it's "Die boese Person" in German, which means "Evil Person" so I just went with that.
M19 Left the umlaut in Boeser

There is a note in Disc 2 about Ending 3 (also on the Sweep Records webpage) "※「エンディング3」は「エンディング2」の終わりに含まれており、実際のゲームプレイで聴けるものと近 い状態になっています。". Basically says "Ending 3 is included at the end of Ending 2 because that's the state it is heard in actual gameplay."

Disc 3
Quote:
01 Opening 1
02 Opening 2
03 Story
04 Ally 1 [Neo-Holy War]
05 Ally 2 [Knights errant]
06 Ally 3 [No Surrender]
07 Ally 4 [Fight It Out]
08 Ally 5 [The Legend of Sword]
09 Ally 6 [Soldier]
10 Ally 7 [Last Battle]
11 Allied Reinforcements 1 [One's Side]
12 Allied Reinforcements 2
13 Allied Reinforcements 3
14 Enemy 1 Leon
15 Enemy 2 Vargas
16 Enemy 3 Morgan
17 Enemy 4 An Evil Person
18 Enemy 5 Egbert
19 Enemy 6 Imelda
20 Enemy 7 Dark Princess
21 Enemy 8 Böser
22 Enemy 9 Bernhardt
23 Enemy Reinforcements 1 [Reinforce of Enemy]
24 Enemy Reinforcements 2
25 Shop
26 Liana
27 Requiem
28 Ending 1
29 Ending 2 [A Story Forever]
30 Quiet Ending
31 Stage Clear
32 Requiem
33 Jessica
34 Staff Roll
Pretty much a copy and paste from Disc 2 with the addition of 2 Allied Reinforcement songs (M12~13), an Enemy Reinforcement song (M24), and then a handful of different tracks after M24.

Disc 4
Quote:
01 Opening (Langrisser 1)
02 Opening (Der Langrisser)
03 Story
04 Ally 2 [Knights errant]
05 Ally 1 [Neo-Holy War]
06 Ally 3 [No Surrender]
07 Ally 4 [Fight It Out]
08 Ally 5 [The Legend of Sword]
09 Ally 6 [Soldier]
10 Ally 7 [Last Battle]
11 Allied Reinforcements 1 [One's Side]
12 Allied Reinforcements 2
13 Allied Reinforcements 3
14 Enemy 1 Leon
15 Enemy 2 Vargas
16 Enemy 3 Morgan
17 Enemy 4 An Evil Person
18 Enemy 5 Egbert
19 Enemy 6 Imelda
20 Enemy 7 Dark Princess
21 Enemy 8 Böser
22 Enemy 9 Bernhardt
23 Enemy Reinforcements 1 [Reinforce of Enemy]
24 Enemy Reinforcements 2
25 Shop
26 Requiem
27 Stage Clear 1
28 Stage Clear 2
29 Ending 2 [A Story Forever]
30 Staff Roll
Nothing notable here except the M4/5 swap per the printing error and again a few different tracks towards the end.

Disc 5
Quote:
01 Supplement 1
02 Supplement 2
03 Supplement 3
04 Supplement 4
05 Supplement 5
06 Supplement 6
07 Jessica
08 Lushiris
09 Liana
10 Inside a Cave ~ Beach BGM ~ Night BGM
11 Big Brother (Langrisser 2)
12 Big Brother (Der Langrisser)
13 Big Brother (Langrisser 1&2)
M01~06 Supplement sounds better in English (compared to Additional) when there's no noun to describe what "Additional" is referring to. It's understood that it's music but just the word "Additional" alone sounds strange.

Disc 6
Quote:
01 To the Future (Short Version)
02 Main Theme [Hero's Theme 1]
03 Inn Theme
04 Jessica's Theme
05 Sophia's Theme
06 Tiaris's Theme
07 Riffany's Theme
08 Luna's Theme
09 Flaire's Theme
10 Friendly A [NPC's Theme]
11 Friendly B [Other PC Theme]
12 Altemüller's Theme
13 Dark Knight's Theme
14 Theme of Barral
15 Velzeria Main Character's Theme
16 Theme of Velzeria
17 Theme of Shika
18 Empire Main Character Theme
19 Empire Ordinary Character Theme
20 Lovin'You -Leaving in the Morning-
21 Main Theme [Hero's Theme 2]
22 Previous Game Menu Song
23 Imperial Army Theme
24 Theme of Velzeria
25 Monster Army
26 Theme of Shika 2
27 Friendly A [NPC's Theme 2]
28 Enemy Attack 1
29 Enemy Attack 2
30 Time Up
31 Mysterious BGM
32 Relief
33 Reinforcements
34 Before Moving...
35 Disadvantage Song
36 Balance Song
37 Slight Advantage Song
38 Advantage Song
39 Main Theme (Slow Version)
40 Final Stage Song
41 Requiem of the Dark Knight
42 Sophia Requiem
43 Flaire Requiem
44 Game Over
45 Epilogue
46 Scenario Clear BGM
47 Ending
- I'm not sure if this game was ever localized so some of the character and location names are taken from Langrisser.info
- I tried to make a distinction between character themes (...'s Theme) and location/organization themes (Theme of ...) but I don't know if this really matters.
- M34 is closer to something like "Until Motion" but I think it's probably a song or something that plays before you mobilize your units so that's the best I could come up with.
- M35 must be different variations of songs in encounters when you have different advantages or something

Full packaging scans incoming today or tomorrow.

EDIT -- done.

The alternate cover that comes with the SuperSweep direct-order is placed as the "showing" cover. It's paper behind plastic, like most DVD / bluray cases. When you open the case so you can pull the paper out, you find a second piece of paper, which is the cover that comes standard on all prints. I've kept the "standard" cover as the default front, but I also scanned the more character-art-laden "alternate" cover (front / tray / back).

The booklet scans serve as a nice verification of what is found in the notes section. So strange about the "Unknown" composers ... but especially, the uncredited songs in L3 (I had forgotten about that).

The only thing I found to be redundant was scanning each of the discs. They're virtually identical, same layout. At the top it'll say disc # and what game(s) covered on the disc. At the bottom you'll see the catalog number and then -1 thru -6 for the disc numbers. Otherwise it's pretty much the same image for all six. I wish they had put unique art on each disc, heaven knows the Langrisser series is celebrated for Urushihara-san's shiny-glossy artwork (not going to talk about cleavage and proportions ... the art selected for this packaging was fairly tame compared to later Langrisser and all Growlanser).

I couldn't be happier with this release. I've been listening to the first four discs over and over over the past week. It feels good to have something that "they got right".

Preach!

Question for you though ... do you, or does anyone, have any idea what "Supplement 1 ~ 6" are all about on disc five? Is it just a large collection of unused music for the PS1 release? Or were they used, like, in Omake menus of collected art and other stuff?

I was once again curious why the edition was titled Langrisser 1 & 2 but only had Langrisser 2 music in it. But by now every game has youtube videos, and https://youtu.be/PmDHSNcPe2Q?t=1m50s by coincidence have the answer to the previous post's question as well. Evidently the "Supplement" tunes are used to fill in the missing Langrisser 1 music. I suppose the developer didn't want to pay royalties to the original game's sound team, even though two of them worked on the second game, whose music is provided in full. So even with the question answered it is just as mysterious! It does look like the level layout and story pacing is changed from the Genesis version, so in a sense it isn't the "wrong" music. Though I certainly like Warsong's tunes better than Supplement's, as well as the original game's dorky army raising theme better than the Langrisser 2 dorky shop theme that seems to have replaced it.

Additionally, assuming, on this CD, the supplements are in the same order as the "unknown" tracks from the minipsf release, about four and a half years ago I arbitrarily named them
1 Yamato Man
2 Marry the Mole
3 Errands in the City
4 Milkshake Ghosts
5 Windshield Wipers
6 Under Construction
I hope this has been completely unhelpful.

arbitrary naming is funny, but ultimately unhelpful, yes.

The explanation on the *usage* of the supplement tracks in-game is EXTREMELY helpful. Thank you so much!!!
