I changed back the arranger credits to o-gata. I think the credits are supposed to be read like: hata-bow on 1,3,6, and 7 -and- o-gata on 2,4,5, and 8. If we assumed otherwise, track 7 would be left uncredited.
Besides Ogata has been credited as o-gata on other albums so that would make more sense, I think Last edited by Kewing; Aug 8, 2009 at 07:17 AM. |

For those who want to label the original songs, here's an unofficial breakdown based on this album on who did what: [NOTE: NO OFFICIAL NOTES EXIST; IGNORE THE ZONE CLASSIFICATIONS FOR NOW AND SKIP TO POST #12 FOR A BETTER ZONE BREAKDOWN.]
[Bold=Confirmed ; Italics = Implied ; Underline = Problem area] Masafumi Ogata: Sonic - You Can Do Anything (Vocals by Keiko Utoku), Title, Palmtree Panic, Collision Chaos, Wacky Workbench, Stardust Speedway, Metallic Madness, Special Stage, Little Planet, Speed Up!!, Invincibile!!, Game Over Naofumi Hataya: Tidal Tempest, Quartz Quadrant, Zone Clear, Boss!!, Final Fever, Cosmic Eternity - Believe in Yourself (Vocals by Keiko Utoku) EDIT: 01 Love you "Sonic" (NH) ----> Original music (Vocals by Takenobu Mitsuyoshi [yasu]) 02 Techno power mix (MO) -----> Wacky Workbench, Metallic Madness, Palmtree Panic (Bad Future), Collision Chaos, Little Planet, Tidal Tempest (Bad Future), Palmtree Panic (Bad Future), Quartz Quadrant (Bad Future), Stardust Speedway* 03 Dr."Gigglymen" (NH) -----> Quartz Quadrant (Present and Bad Future) (?), Boss, Final Fever [NOTE: Stardust Speedway vocals are used, but not the SS music (Vocals are actually most like those from GF, as they inflect upwards)] 04 Brand-new World (MO) ----> Sonic - You Can Do Anything (Vocals by Hitomi Momoi [momo] and Takenobu Mitsuyoshi [yasu]) 05 #8th SPACE (MO) -----> Special Stage 06 Miracle Blue~Little Planet~ (NH) ----> Quartz Quadrant (Good Future), Tidal Tempest (Good Future), Palmtree Panic (Good Future) 07 When we reach for you~Could it be right~ (NH) -----> Cosmic Eternity - Believe in Yourself (Vocals by Takenobu Mitsuyoshi [yasu]) 08 Sonic Stream (MO) -------> Original music *To be fair, Naofumi Hataya did the 6290 and After 6290 mixes found on Sonic Gems Collection, the first of which includes all the zone themes except Quartz. Here's the former, except with a little "reworking" --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Yqflb4xU2Q [Technically, the Wacky Workbench GF part is cut out of this mix, but the original has it. Seek it out.] This site claims that Takenobu Mitsuyoshi and his almighty Engrish is the voice behind tracks 1, 4, and 7 (as yasu). momo is still unknown, though. http://info.sonicretro.org/Sonic_the_Hedgehog_-_Remix Here's a few songs of his to compare as well as those listed above http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-B951LjTXU - Love you "Sonic" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZUZS9P_27E - Brand-new World (female voice is momo [identity unknown]) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vlf6gDsRzzk - When we reach for you~Could it be right~ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTvTVIVBpUg - Let's Go Away (Piano Version) [Daytona USA] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWcqEcnNTtk - The King of Speed [Daytona USA] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kp6T6q6_9VQ - Sky High [Daytona USA] Last edited by kyubihanyou; Jul 24, 2011 at 09:43 PM. |

o_O
how did i not know about that. *retagging redbook* .. wait, how clear is it with regards who did the past/present/future versions for each stage? (like how with NiGHTS into dreams different composers were responsible for the variations.) or is it just assumed that they did all variations for their respective stage tunes? eitherway this info makes me giddy.

Wow, nice info breakdown. Just curious: where does it come from? The liner notes?
Yasu being Mitsuyoshi does sound consistent, as it clearly resembles his voice and peculiar english, and he and Hataya already collaborated on some soundtracks (mainly SEGA Rally, I think, along others most surely). "Hah! I knew you'd risk yourself for Mr. Lincoln" Very nice YTMPV, Deepercutt was real good at it. |

Game Over, Speed Up, Invincibility, and Title, though not technically on here, all borrow elements from Sonic You Can Do Anything, which Masafumi composed. The same logic applies to Act Clear in regards to Cosmic Eternity - Believe in Yourself, done by Naofumi Hataya. (Proof: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iu4JKfGOQyo from 2:35 to 2:50) As I said before, elements of all the zone variations are all present in the Present/original version, so there would normally be no complications regarding GFs, BFs and Ps, just as music for different Acts in later games maintain the same components between them. [EDIT: NO LONGER THE CASE FOR THIS GAME. PLEASE IGNORE] Track 6 was the real difference maker, as it pulled Tidal and Quartz away from Masafumi's grasp in Track 2, and since the reverse did not happen, I knew I had it right for those two. Had Track 2 lacked any of the seven zones I would have been suspicious, but having all of them together neutralized any chance of Masafumi having done Tidal or Quartz, as it was a full medley. The 6290 mix was put up for good measure, as it showed the reverse happening [Naofumi making a medley of nearly all of them]. All the other ones only appeared once and, therefore, were easy pickings. *To be honest I just did this cause I was bored and saw that no one else had done this. Still, I'm happy I could help you. This was certainly easier to crack than my other ventures [it was even easier than the US version of this game]. Last edited by kyubihanyou; Mar 8, 2010 at 11:38 AM. |

Uh, so we're clear here.
That breakdown of the original tracks that you posted is therefore just as much speculation as the other breakdowns you posted, right? Arrangement doesn't imply composition in any way. |

If only one of the two composers did this album, I wouldn't have bothered with it, but the fact that both are here and the tracks are so evenly divided between them with little interference leaves something to be desired. If nothing else, this is the biggest hint we're ever gonna get, and it's a whopper of a hint. Furthermore, Masafumi and Naofumi definitely arranged their own work in Tracks 4 and 7, respectively. I say that's enough reason for the rest of these tracks to have been done by their original composer as well. Well at least I still got you on Takenobu Mitsuyoshi being yasu. There's no mistaking that Engrish of his. Last edited by kyubihanyou; Aug 23, 2010 at 02:52 PM. |

While I see that you have a solid point, like CHz said, it's still a bit of an speculation. I wouldn't be surprised if they did like in Nights, with Ogata arranging Hataya tracks, and viceversa. It's personal opinion, but I don't think Hataya was only limited to slower tracks (look at Quart Quadrant B Mix, I'm kinda confident it was done by him too).
Besides I'd put my hand on the fire for Stardust Speeday been done by Hataya; it has that special groove feel of his. |

i would have thought all the good future tunes were done by one guy and all the bad future tunes by the other, because of how consistent the styles are. but who knows, the entire thing could have been collaborative.
um. contact the composers, maybe? :3

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NN1Wka4_r3k -->1:08 to 1:12 and 1:13 to 1:15 (Palmtree GF) [Same is heard in Present and Past] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jl4OfCDeW4A --> 0:54 to 0:58 and 1:06 to 1:08 (Sonic Heroes Select) Between this and your statement, it looks like you're right. Naofumi must have done all the GFs [makes sense with Miracle Blue and 6290 having a few] while Masafumi, as you said, must have done all the BFs. And now I listen to them... (Ironic that someone like me is only doing this now, isn't it?) Z/T Pa Pr GF BF PP NH NH NH MO CC MO MO NH MO TT MO MO NH MO QQ NH NH NH MO WW MO MO NH MO SS NH NH NH MO MM NH NH NH NH -Past tracks are either old-sounding and scratchy or still clear and techno-ish; I say NH and MO, respectively. -In terms of the Present, my findings (with the exception of Palmtree as shown above) seem to hold up pretty well, especially against these new GFs and BFs classifications. They even hold up well with the remix tracks, as Miracle Blue by NH contains two Good Future tracks itself. (ex. Stardust Past and Bad Future sound A LOT like Present, and I JUST realized that Good Future has those same "sparkle sounds" as Quartz Present and Good Future). -Guess Hataya likes his samples. -Everything else (Boss, Little Planet, etc.) should still be the same due to definitely appearing only once under each name. -Masafumi = Techno ; Naofumi = Non-Techno **Guess it's been longer than I thought since I last heard this soundtrack. This setup makes a lot more sense than attributing an entire zone to someone, especially since there was one in each set that was clearly different from the others [At least Sonic 3&K's not like that]. Sorry for leading you semi-astray before, guys. Please forgive me. :{ EDIT: I found another mind-screw for you guys. Check it out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARxaa8iNz4c --->Pugwash vs. Sonic CD EDIT2: Christmas NiGHTS contained a track named Rolling Eggman. it's credited to Naofumi Hataya. Naofumi was also the one who arranged Dr. "Gigglymen", which includes the original version of the theme used in Rolling Eggman (Final Fever). I think that's proof that the arrangers are sticking to their own tracks, don't you agree? This halfway validates Dr. "Gigglymen" as Hataya-only compositions. http://vgmdb.net/album/7008 EDIT3: Naofumi Hataya is in the credits of Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing (CS1 R&D Sound) while Masafumi is not (not even in Special Thanks). Two of the tracks in the game are Palmtree Panic (Present) and Metallic Madness (Present). That's an official confirmation in my book. The similarities between "Palmtree Panic" and "System Screen : Select" only help to further the validity of the former. http://www.mobygames.com/game/window...racing/credits EDIT4: There is a special staff list in Sonic CD that is accessible when you complete the Secret Special Stage. Masafumi Ogata is credited for "Sound." A true confirmation for Ogata, which also validaites #8th SPACE as Ogata-only compositions. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CJHmWl8_GU at 1:57 EDIT5: Is "momo" here the same as this Momo? (http://vgmdb.net/artist/152) (Hitomi Momoi) It's in the same general time period, and she appears on one of the few titles Ogata was involved with after Sonic CD. The track she lends her voice to here is also composed by Ogata. Also, to reiterate, it should be brutally obvious that yasu is Takenobu Mitsuyoshi. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ODb24FltH8 credited to Hataya. sounds pretty alike the bad future songs. I also think Stardust Speedway present sounds like Hataya's style of harmony, and you've pinned that as Ogata's work Quote:
i think putting these types of information up is a bit dangerous. i feel you are finding patterns where none really exist.
