Sounds awesome.
Only downside.. there is still not any Richard Jaques' Shinobi X soundtrack.

For those interested, Play-asia is finally stocking the album. Time to get those preorders in

Uploaded most of the scans. I'll scan the discs and booklet very soon.

Listening to it right now, and loving every bit of it hahah. It's very nice to also have the MD version of Super Shinobi. It's somewhat fresher, being used to the PC-98 sound.

Tho not as soon as I had planned, I finally upped the rest of scans, along with "full" credit info. If you can call a rather lame "Original music by SEGA" full credits. At least they credit the arranged track, which is done by Shinnosuke, tho I have no idea who it is.
Unlike other wave master albums, this one doesn't detail any composer info at all, unless it's scattered through the liner notes, which is unlikely. A shame, indeed.

The liner note artist blurbs give these people as "in charge of sound":

Yuzo Koshiro: The Super Shinobi, The GG Shinobi, The GG Shinobi II
Keisuke Tsukahara: Shadow Dancer (so this is K.T. and Tsukachan)
Shinnosuke: The Super Shinobi II (I guess just with respect to the arrangement? Unless he's one of these guys.)

The other notes are from non-sound staff (designers, etc.).

Is it just me or did they mess up tracks 23 and 24 on disc 4? It sure sounds like the titles are swapped...

Indeed, I just checked and they're swapped. What should be done about this? Should we modify the tracklist to represent this, or leave it as it is?

I'd say leave as is, but make a note of it in the Notes section.

Is the music found on the Shinobi Original Soundtrack release different than what's found on this release? I see a completely different set of titles and composers on that one.

That's a completely new game for the PS2, isn't it? All the music found on this compilation is for the old-school 8-bit, 16-bit and arcade games.

Oh, so that's what the other one is. Guess I didn't pay close enough attention to the platforms represented. There's just so much Shinobi music flying around on this release! Thanks.

The Genesis version of Aa Harimanada credits a "Shinnosuke Murasaki" for sound along with "Ker Akiyama" (Morihiko Akiyama) and "Nagao (N-Gee)" (Masayuki Nagao), so I guess "Shinnosuke" is indeed one of those guys, Hirofumi Murasaki.

What's this? The Super Shinobi II is actually Shinobi III in disguise? I had a hard time finding this, I'm glad it's not confusing in the slightest, I wish they'd stuck with the in-game track name instead of the bland titles but what's a guy to do?

About the titles labeled:

"*all compositions for the first time" (Super Shinobi II, GG Shinobi, MD Shadow Dancer)

On which CDs were they released before?

No, read the album notes: some games are listed "*first time on CD"

while others are listed "*all compositions for the first time" which means that music was previously available on CD or other media, but some tracks weren't included (usually the unused ones, those not accessible without ROM hacking, etc.)

I know Revenge of Shinobi, like many of Koshiro's works, had been published before: for example http://vgmdb.net/album/4642 is well documented. But what about the others?

Super Shinobi II -> SEGAROCK volume 2 & SEGACON volume 1 (just one track)
GG Shinobi -> Yuzo Koshiro Early Collection 2nd
Shadow Dancer -> SEGACON volume 1 (just one track)

Oh.. I hadn't thought about the "just one track" possibility. That pretty much means that this is de facto the first release for those soundtracks. Cool.

By the way, does anyone know if the BGM4 / Bonus stage song from Shinobi has been arranged or performed live somewhere else?

Yosuke Okunari's series history in the liner notes says this one is by Keisuke Tsukahara, same as the home versions. Tsukahara's own comments talk about writing both the Arcade and Mega Drive version music.

I suspected that... Listening to them in sequence, the similarities are obvious.

For GG Shinobi II, it has been uncovered that Motohiro Kawashima composed "Canyon 2", "Boss" and "Last Boss". Not surprising, as those don't sound like Yuzo Koshiro. "Ninja Boss" and a few other tracks also sound kinda like Motohiro. Unfortunately, it seems Yuzo can't remember what tracks he composed, but I'm assuming he done most tracks.

For Shinobi III, Sega Retro reports that Masayuki Nagao did "SHINOBI", and Hirofumi Murasaki did "JAPONESQUE" and "IZAYOI". According to Project-2612 Akiyama did "IDATEN", so that's about all I can find on exact credits.

Sega Retro is full of guesses, please don't trust its composer credits unless you can verify them with something that's actually trustworthy

In this case, the Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed soundtrack credits "IZAYOI," "IDATEN," and "JAPONESQUE" to Murasaki. And Nagao's Japanese Wikipedia article for some reason says that he composed the opening theme (so "SHINOBI").

If there were a way to verify this I would. Plus the fact Akiyama did full compose duties for Columns III gives a little credence to the idea.

Some of them come from correspondence with Nagao years ago. Although I can't provide proof (as the messages are long gone by now), if I remember correctly, Nagao was never fully certain about his answers anyway, so I wouldn't take them as 100% fact.

Now if only we know who did Shin Shinobiden. That game had the cheesiest FMVs like ever but two different scores. The EU release was for sure Richard Jacques as is well known. I checked the game’s kanji credits on Nico Nico and they list no composer info whatsoever. So even the JP version has no idea.
