Is anyone else pondering getting this one? I was watching some let's play footage to listen to the music but as some people are pointing out the sound mixing in the game is rather poor; the music just gets drowned out by all the SE.

The backers for the Kickstarter who pledged high enough should be getting this for free.

Not entirely. The version we backers got is missing tracks, many of them aren't properly named, and they're completely untagged. Also, only three of the 8-bit tracks that we got have proper timing information, the rest all last 5:11.
Here's what we got, misspellings and all: Original versions: 01_It All Begins Now 02_Raging Flames Smolder 03_Beyond the Watery Vortex 04_Voltaic Dynatron 05_Rush Into the Mine 06_Crimson Stronghold 07_Avi's News Report 08_Desolate Highway 09_Trapped by Laser Light 10_Sneak into the Prison 11_The Machine Draws Near 12_Swollowed Up Innocence 13_Love Hidden Under the Mask Mega Ran - Mighty (Staff Roll Remix) MN9_BGM_BOSS MN9_BGM_BOSS_DEFEAT MN9_BGM_CHALLENGE MN9_BGM_COLOSSEO MN9_BGM_DEMO1 MN9_BGM_Demo2 MN9_BGM_ENDING MN9_BGM_EPILOUGE MN9_BGM_EXMODE MN9_BGM_LASTBOSS MN9_BGM_LASTBOSSDEMO MN9_BGM_MAP MN9_BGM_MENU MN9_BGM_RAYBATTLE MN9_BGM_RAYDEMO MN9_BGM_RAYENDDEMO MN9_BGM_RAYTHEME MN9_BGM_RESULT MN9_BGM_TITLE MN9_MightyRe_Master1 8-bit versions: MN9_BGM_BOSS MN9_BGM01 MN9_BGM02 MN9_BGM03 MN9_BGM04 MN9_BGM05 MN9_BGM06 MN9_BGM07 MN9_BGM08 MN9_BGM09 MN9_THEME |

https://twitter.com/MightyNo9/status/750615125392891904 - That's pretty much the only official announcement about it.
I had to use the Humble Bundle resender for it to show up in my account. |

Had no idea the digital backer OST had been released either. You'd think Comcept would have let us know, but somehow I'm not surprised. Just downloaded it, and wow, what an insultingly sloppy release. No cover art, no metadata, just 2 zip files of loose mp3s, like it's 1999. One final little slap in the face to the fans, after all the other issues with this project...

Assuming chronological order in the soundtrack, I went through some footage of the game and tried to figure out the proper names for the MN9_BGM tracks. Turns out "Sneak into the Prison" is actually missing the first two bars in the Backers' soundtrack, and although I don't know the name of it for certain, the missing track from the non-retro side is the theme for Ray's intro stage.
Here's my best guess at the song names, with more question marks indicating a higher degree of uncertainty on my part, particularly regarding the Ray tracks since those track names don't really say much. EDIT: I was able to compare the official soundtrack to the backers' soundtrack to verify and confirm all of the tracks names. Turns out the Ray battle music, Plundering Claw, has an extended intro in the backers' soundtrack that isn't even included in the game's files. Disc 1
Disc 2

The KS campaign for MN9 will stop at nothing to bitch-slap its backers, sorry about that guys. Looking at the bad reviews for this thing already, maybe you're better off not getting the proper version either way. ;p

The official Mighty No. 9 website has a composer profile section in which each one describes in which stages/menus/etc. they composed, although I don't know which stages correspond to which tracks in the soundtrack.

The soundtrack plays the bosses' stage themes in order, with track 9 being #1, track 10 being #2, all the way up to 16 being #8.
Also, just wanted to post to add that I was able to compare the full official soundtrack to the backers' soundtrack and have confirmed all of the track titles and updated my original list accordingly. Turns out the Ray battle music in the backers' soundtrack includes an extended intro that isn't even included in the game's files. That seems to be the only real extra, however. |

Thank you. So, according to the composer profile I linked earlier and judging by the backers' file names, the (partial) composer breakdown should look like this (all of them on Disc 1):
-Manami Matsumae: 1 (uses Main Theme), 3, 7 (uses Main Theme), 10, 11, 13, 16, 18, 19, 25, 27 -Ippo Yamada: 4, 8, 9, 14, 21, 23 -Takashi Tateishi: 15 -Masahiro Aoki ("Godspeed"): 12 The other tracks in the soundtrack seem to be pretty much divided between Matsumae and Yamada, because the other two composers don't list any other track (although Aoki says he did "other guitar arrangements" as well). Probably each composer also did each "Retro" version as well, but I'm not sure about that. |

I think every single Inti album has a full composition breakdown (but generally not arrangement); we're just waiting on someone to, you know, actually have a copy of this.
I've seen an incomplete credits list in Japanese that I'm pretty sure is also just sourced from the dev profiles |

I was a $60 backer. Despite the messy digital release and poor in-game sound mixing, the music in the game is actually really good.

I think the compositions are fairly good for the most part (never was a fan of Dynatron's music), but to me the tracks kinda feel unfinished, almost like pre-release demo versions for a final cut that was never made. They did a concert for MAGFest with extended cuts of some of the tracks, and I like those renditions better (although the quality's not as good having been recorded in a live concert environment rather than a proper studio).
