Publishers for digital albums
On a physical album, you can easily discern what imprint is used. For a digital album it's not so clear. Many digital music stores such as iTunes list only the phonographic copyright holder. In the case of a digital album with a physical counterpart should I use the same publisher for both or use the company named as copyright holder? And for a digital-only album should I use the copyright holder's name as a publisher?

Yes, iTunes lists that kind of copyright (almost all the time). Copyright holder and label can be the same. But you should look on other digital stores too, Amazon MP3 has a dedicated label field in addition to copyright info. Of course, they can put the wrong label so it's not necessarilly always correct but it can help a lot. mora.jp also lists label. qobuz too... and so on.
'Publisher' field this database uses isn't meant for sound recording copyright holder so use the label if you can hopefully find the info on other stores. If it's only available on iTunes, well, then there's no other option probably. |
