I found an interesting one.. but it's pretty much impossible to hear without speeding up the track. Once you've done that, filter out the highs to hear it more clearly.

Devil May Cry 2
  • "SEWER CATS-B2" from "Zero-G: Cuckooland 'ghost in the machine'" was used in 1.18 "EYE OF THE WIND (Uppertown)" (2:21)

Not 100% sure, but I think sample 5 of track 13 / sample 11 of track 65 on Zero-G: Ambient Volume 1 is the sample at about ~2:21 in "Maian Tears" from Perfect Dark (also used in Ocarina of Time, Dodongo's Cavern which we did find not long ago actually..).

Killer Instinct
  • "Track 14" (sample 5) from "Zero-G: Ambient Volume 1" was used in 05 "It's a Jungle" (0:51)

Hey guys, amazing topic!

I am looking for a certain (much used) cello sample library. It is used so much that i am sure SOMEONE here knows it. It is (imho) a valuable addition to the topic.

A very popular sample!
It's often used in production music for TV, too.

My guess:

East/West - Symphonic Adventures or one of the Peter Siedlaczek libraries.

And here's an overview for the most common Orchestral libraries of the 90's and early 2000's:

Useful! I will check it out. Thank you, SehrStill

Sample 1 is also used on History Channel (Ancient Aliens etc.) I found that library tune a while ago. Here it is:

Sonic Rush
  • "Track 23" (sample 5) from "Megabass REMIX! vol 1" was used in 18 / 19 "Metal Scratchin'"

It's really nice to finally find where that scat is from.

That's now every single vocal sample used in Sonic Rush apart from the "HEE" used in Metal Scratchin' (also appears in I Love Love You from JSRF). Anyone happen to have any pointers at all?

Not VGM per se, but it's definitely related (the discs say "THIS IS NOT A GAME" anyway). :P

I believe "Icelandic Break" from "East West: Breakz from the Nu Skool" is the drumloop used in the menu theme for Action Replay MAX. The bitrate of the actual audio file on the CD is apparently only 96kbps, so naturally parts of the original loop is nearly inaudible. Also in the first few seconds of the song there are are some other samples that drowns out the percussion, but at about 0:03 you can definitely hear the percussion of the "Icelandic Break" sample.

--I came here from the yamaoka thread, but i'm still on the hunt for the loops used in this song (killer is dead: Episode 7 BGM) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YztdNhLPYig
--The pad sample is also used in the anime Future Diary https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhIvYXLIu-M

Today I came across a library that had the synths...but they sound heavily modified and don't loop correctly. So I don't think this was the library used and, in fact, I think that the sample library I found is just a rip off of another. If anyone is familiar with the sounds, here is the one I found today with a demo on the page http://www.producerloops.com/Downloa...ls-Demons.html

If anyone recognizes these samples from any libraries, I'd appreciate it

After finally managing to get a hold of a handful of S900 disks, I made one new discovery: Gradius II's pizzicato string sample is from Akai S900 library disk SL509.

Edit: Decided to put together a comparison using the Moai level song. First is the isolated game channel straight from Hoot. Second is the same sequence recreated using the higher quality source sample.

The Clarinet, Acoustic Bass and Strings 2 samples from the Korg M1 are used in Yoshi's Island, I'm convinced. Important to note that there was some sample compression by putting them into the SNES - Does anyone know how to compress samples to make them usable by an actual SNES to check?

Found one from Metal Gear Rising:Revengeance

Spectrasonics Omnisphere

Preset: The Formant Wheel

Track: Return to ashes

Time: 0:00

I thought they might have used Omnisphere. It's sounds a lot like MGR sounds. I also think they used iZotope Stutter Edit for vocals stutters.

Thank you for the quick reply, I thought I'd be waiting for weeks for a reply.

Let me rephrase. I know the games might have used many libraries.

1.) I want to find out the primary sound bank(s) used in the original Guilty Gear, if there were any. GG's music seems to predominantly feature soundfonts. I'm going to guess that they're coming from one or two places.

The beginning of "Death and Republic" begins with muted palm mutes, which I recognize from the CPS2 game Dimahoo, (CPS2 games are notable for their extensive use of Roland SC-50, SC-550 and SC 750, and maybe others released around the same time). Furthermore, the drum set in "Conclusion" is very similar to the "Room" drum set patch that many soundfonts based on Roland SC-55 have.

The drums from "Shout and Burning" really caught my attention, so if anyone knows where those came from, do tell.

2.) As far as Isuka is concerned... That's more of a side question, though, than anything. I want to know what drums were used. If no one knows, that's fine.

SynthMania really is a great resource. It was their U-220 page where I first noticed some samples form Super Street Fighter II, which started my whole video game soundtrack sample sourcing hobby. Make sure to check out their Youtube channel, too. It profiles some gear that isn't featured on the main site.

Felineki, i have been viewing, off and on a lot recently, those sound presets in which these games have sampled these sounds. Prior to that, the only one i knew was the SSF2 slap bass from Korg M1 for reasons i suppose you might guess.

But i want to know, how did you manage to get a hold of those Roland S-50 sounds? Like, how did you manage to be able to listen to those? Do you have one? None of these sites like synthmania seem to have it, and any result i can get on youtube is extremely limited. I also happened to come across a couple sounds you list that synthmania does not have but are on the list here. And how would you know the preset?

On top of that, i have a few to add. I remember a few, but i have come across more. I heard the synth bass used in SFA2 and X-Men vs Street Fighter, but i forget what it comes from. And X-Men Children of the Atom as well as Marvel Superheroes uses the big snare sound from the Emu Proteus/1. I also downloaded the sr16 samples and found snare drums from XVS(i think the rim2center), MSH vs SF(nastysnr) The Roland R-8 reverb snare is also used in SFA3, and the same machine's "ouch snare" is used in Final Fight. I also want to know where the X-Men Mutant Apocalypse/Slam Masters slap bass comes from.

For the Roland S-50 sounds, users of those samplers have done a great job of archiving the original factory disks and making their images available online. Sgroup has almost all the floppies, and Rutger Verberkmoes has the L-CD1 CD which is basically a compilation of the entire S-50 floppy library (including the few Sgroup is missing).

There are various pieces of software out there that will let you open, convert, and use the samples of these libraries on your PC. Awave Studio, CDXtract, and Chicken Systems Translator to name a few. That's how I managed to go through those libraries and find sounds I recognized from soundtracks.

Nice to see you've done some investigating in Capcom fighting game soundtracks too! If you do remember where that SFA2 synth bass came from, I'd be interested, since I like that sample

Hey, thanks for that. I saw that website, but i had no idea how to use these things. But i used one of the programs you suggested and it works great. I did not find rock lead in RSB-501, but i did find a few interesting things and more samples used in games.

RSB-501 features the synth brass used in Cadillacs and Dinosaurs(JP8Brs), and the JX-10 is featured in Mega Man 7. It also has the drums to Cadillacs and Dinosaurs(ContrlBS and MM SNR1)

The "Rock Lead" patch is one of the ones that's missing from the Sgroup site, specifically the 10th disk of the RSB-502 set. It is included on the L-CD1, however. But note that that CD image is finicky, I had to open it up in a binary editor and trim away some empty space at the beginning of the file before I could get a progam to open it.
