Question Where do you buy your video game music online?

Hello all,

where and how do you buy your video game music online? Do you have any recommendations? Which stores do you advise against?

I have been reading here for some time. Unfortunately, many stores that were mentioned here are no longer active. Maybe we can create a little guide for people who don't know where to start their search. That was at least my idea behind it.

It would be great if you could provide a hyperlink with the store and a small description of what the store offers, whether you regularly order from it or have already ordered something, whether there are new or used goods - just all the things you want to know as a buyer. You will surely be able to agree on the most important criteria.

I would then just keep updating the first post. Together, I'm sure we can come up with a great list.

Thank you!

eBay

Probably the most famous auction site in the world. Beware of bootlegs and always match the catalog number with those in the database of this site.

Yahoo Japan Auction

Please note that this site is not as easily accessible as the other sites since the service is only available to japan from Wednesday, April 6, 2022. You can try using a proxy service for this.

Official statement on the page: "Please be informed that from Wednesday, April 6, 2022, Yahoo! JAPAN’s services are no longer available to our users in the EEA (European Economic Area) and the United Kingdom, as it has been determined by Yahoo! JAPAN that providing a continuous service environment in these regions would be difficult."

FAQ

What is a bootleg?

A bootleg recording is an audio or video recording of a performance not officially released by the artist or under other legal authority. Making and distributing such recordings is known as bootlegging. The quality of these products can vary greatly from the original. Be vigilant when buying and compare the catalog number with the one in the database here on VGMdb if you are unsure.

The thread linked above mentions some online stores and they're still active, plus, there are a few tips.
Personally speaking, my go-to picks are Play-Asia and CDJapan, neither has failed me, thus far.

I used to buy a lot of YesAsia, which has the benefit of free shipping if you buy enough. Unfortunetly in past couple years they've raised their prices despite the yen price going the opposite way compaired to the dollar. So I've defaulted to CDJapan as it's been cheaper even with the shipping cost (and then add the bonuses they often give on top of that).

Thank you very much for your posts!

@ilef - I found these shops:

https://www.yahoo.co.jp/

It says this: "From Wednesday, April 6, 2022, Yahoo! JAPAN is no longer available in the EEA and the United Kingdom"

So it seems not that easy to buy something from this site anymore aside from using a proxy service? I will add it to the list with the info from here.

http://www.shoppingmalljapan.com/

This leads to "https://theweeblounge.com/", which does not sell any soundtracks.

http://gamemusic.com

This leads to "https://www.ncy.com/", which is.. something not related to games or even soundtracks of games. As some user pointed out, they're out of business.

Ebay

I will add this with a "beware of bootlegs" information.

That's all I could find between the bootleg and Obi discussions. If I overlooked something, please let me know.
