Hey all,
This should be _most_ interesting for everyone in this thread http://forums.mp3tag.de/index.php?showtopic=10991 VGMdb scripts (integration into MP3Tag): - Fetch tags & covers from specified VGMdb URL - Fetch cover only from specified VGMdb URL - Fetch tags & covers from VGMdb using Album name - Fetch cover only from VGMdb using Album name Fabulous scripts, grab them from the link above! Thanks for the tip, Alcahest! Now I don't have to open up Let's Tag and export a new text file for every new CD/Album that I have to tag (hopefully).

Awesome, thanks a lot Alcahest and the script creator! This will save me a lot of time.

This may sound retarded, but how do I handle albums with several discs in this script? When I was using Let's Tag I had to edit the document and copy/remove the entries for disc 2, tag disc 1, and then paste the tags for disc 2 back in. I was hoping this would be a little easier when it comes to tagging several discs.

It doesn't seem to work with Tag&Rename. Does it work at all, at the moment? If so, is there anyone using Tag&Rename who's got it working with the freedb servers?
I get the error "Cannot resolve host, error 2". Edit: When removing http:// from the server url, it seems to start grabbing some info, but then I get another error, "530 Internal server error .". Last edited by Nisto; Feb 27, 2010 at 08:53 AM. |

So you don't get any errors when pressing "Get servers list"? Because just pressing Ok after entering the server address etc. works for me as well.

I just checked, I get the error aswell. However, it retrieves tags fine so I'm not bothered.

There's no need to press "get servers list". It'll work without doing that.

Does anyone know if you can choose to only update/overwrite specific tags when using this with a tagging program? I use TagScanner/mp3tag, but maybe I've missed an option for only the title..
I honestly doubt it, but maybe. Last edited by mercenary09; Apr 20, 2010 at 09:13 AM. |

How should the tracktimes be entered for this to work? Rounded to the closest second? Or always up/down?

Anyone know of a means to use the vgmdb freedb server in Mac OSX? I've tried XLD but it seems to default to querying iTunes cddb server.

When ripping anime albums the genre automatically sets "Game", too. Any chance we can get a "Animation" genre for all those albums?

There's enough leeway that it almost doesn't matter, but for database accuracy I'd do a straight round as opposed to a floor or ceiling.

For some reason I can't get EAC to retrieve the data for the third disc in the Raiden / Raiden II sound track, which has a data track. I tried adding a new tracklist with the added data track, adjusting the track times with a straight round... but no success. Do you have any suggestion or idea as to what may cause this?
By the way, wouldn't it be interesting that the freedb server returned the full release date in dd/mm/YYYY or YYYY/mm/dd instead of just the year? I think it would more informative. This more of throwing out an idea than suggestion, though, so don't take my word too seriously ;p |

Are you sure about the position of the data track? I thought they were generally first on the disc.

Yeah, it's the last one according to EAC.
I guess so, but I've encountered a few albums already which have the data track at the end of the disc (Sonic Heroes and Sonic and the secret rings for example). EDIT: Here's the TOC for reference: Code:

Ah, you're right, I hadn't noticed. No idea about the reason though. I tried loading the CD into foobar, but apparently everything was normal, no extra space at the end after track 24. I tried retrieving the tags from there, but it didn't work once again.
By the way, I just checked today and Sonic Heroes the exact same problem (unkwon extra space between the last audio track and the data track). |

There is always a gap between sessions on a multisession disc (audio + data).
Without a way to determine whether a track is audio or data the server cannot take into account this gap. That is why simply adding a data track onto the tracklist of an album entry will not work, because the entry's new length will still always be shorter than its actual length causing the search to miss the potential match. |

Hm, this doesn't work with Fb2k. Maybe I should try the UTF-8 Japanese server. Good job on this though!

Well I just found out why Foobar was giving me errors from an earlier post in this thread. Thanks for the clarification that you can't have to different freedbs in Foobar. Let me know if there is any update on this. I guess I will just delete freedb default if I need the vgmdb one at some point.

Hmm, freedb is nice and all, but I mostly didn't want to make a thread for a possible suggestion and rather just ask here because the freedb is mainly used for updating tags and the like, but generally for albums or any type of mixed cd with a variety of artists to simply tag it as freedb I'm pretty sure is limited to only adding an artist tag (music contribution wise).
I guess I'd like to indirectly ask would it be something staff on VGMdb would consider for an alternate way of tagging albums (since you'd mainly have to export the tags, and since I like .txt, I just use those) and then just write tags from that .txt using something like Quote:
but I guess Mp3tag sometimes doesn't always work right when I've done it, but I think it's due to there being no tag in that field anyways, but it's something someone could figure out later if it could actually be pushed here, or s o m e thing, anyway. I think I never bothered to see if I understood how to do this with TagScanner correctly, but Mp3tag seems to be a bit famous enough for widespread use, or so. I guess I'd wonder if it would get considered, if there would simply be a spoiler for the info and just added to the bottom of albums on their page since it's just text you'd paste into a file anyway Though I'm really just curious on what people would think as when I add an album, I tend to write out all the credits and submit it, and then I go tag it and realize it can take quite a bit of time, especially going one by one (as credits tend to be listed track-by-track which is probably the best because they tend not to contribute to more than a few songs depending on the album, or even if they do it'd be chaotic because of the other credits as well and become messy quickly). It's just the thought after submitting and then tagging that, "Wow, for people who add the composer/arranged/lyricist(or maybe misc. tags), it'd be great if they didn't have to spend like 15~20 minutes tagging it" if they are like me, bu for people who could care less, it could still be convenient anyway. I'm just not sure if there is something that already works online already. I remember people using musicbrainz, but I'm not sure which fields it fills in (and I would really only guess it's limited to artist, and maybe composer, but I didn't bother to look this up). also I became shy thinking I'd have to make a specific suggestion thread somewhere since I didn't seem to find a place a specific suggestion thread Anyways, thoughts? *prepares for it to be ignores in the long-run* edit: small edit, but I really like this site for information and credit breakdowns when it's there, so I'd love to see it easier to tag your collection, and what not, especially box-sets which are basically a conglomeration Last edited by mercenary09; Jan 11, 2011 at 04:21 AM. |

Problem with musicbrainz is that it acts a bit different than VGMDB, what I mean by this is VGMDB likes original data and to keep things as close to that as possible, while musicbrainz uses style guide lines to make everything closer to the same way. Part of musicbrainz guide lines is to remove OST or Original Soundtrack/Sound Track, Score, etc. from most albums VGMDB doesn't. Musicbrainz will correct what are perceived spelling errors, VGMDB keeps them as is. An example is Final Fantasy 3/6 Mistery Train.
The largest problem I see is that most of the credits are put into the notes section. Thus a vocalist, or some other part of a song like bass trombone player won't appear in your tags where it may be beneficial. This may change when the track by track data happens but no one knows when that comes in. Personally if you are a 1 time type tagger, use musicbrainz and then edit the tags to your preference from it. It doesn't have everything but it is pretty straight forward with less typing if it is already in the database. As a side note. http://vgmdb.net/forums/showthread.php?p=22389 Link to both a tagger and mp3tag script. |
