I'm not too certain on the validity of a Spysee grab, to be honest—however, this image of him is surprisingly accurate, as it resembles the only other photo of him taken for the Elemental Master album release (forefront position on back of album). The image is supposedly from last.fm, though I can only find it through Spysee.

Nor much concerned with the site before, but I've always heard Hyakutaro Tsukumo is *ahem* a plump guy (and added what I was told was his photo years ago). Now what Spysee claims his is...

That makes more sense. Gonna want to take the pic down, then.
—Going off of this whole discussion, then, Spysee is pretty inaccurate—and I thought I was getting somewhere. Last edited by DragoonEnRegalia; Jan 4, 2012 at 01:28 PM. |

I'm seeing some references to "FUNKY SUROUNIN" as an alias of his. Not sure if it's legit, though-- I'm loathe to trust second-hand sources and I don't have a copy of Thunder Force IV around right now to check the credits.

Games list on Yamanishi's old site: http://web.archive.org/web/200812041...s/disc/cs.html.
Elemental Master: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqKBzE-A-Lk#t=2m30s Sound Effects: MATAI, SU-ROUNIN Devil Crash MD: http://www.geocities.jp/bgrtype/gsl/.../dcrushmd.html MUSIC: FUNKY SUROUNIN, OMEN, YUNKER MATAI Thunder Force IV: http://www.geocities.jp/bgrtype/gsl/md/tf4/tf4.html MUSIC: FUNKY SUROUNIN, OMEN, YUNKER MATAI So he's either "Funky Surounin" or "Yunker Matai." Yamanishi joined Gust in 1995, working on games like Falcata (1995) and Meru Purana (1996), while "Yunker Matai" continued at Technosoft, directing Hyper Duel (1996) and Thunder Force V (1997), among others. That eliminates "Yunker Matai," leaving just "Funky Surounin." ("Yunker Matai" is apparently Naosuke Arai, which I believe, but I'm not 100% sure how it was established. Arai was at Technosoft from January 1986 to December 1999, so the dates fit.) Incidentally, I suspect Yamanishi is also the へるしー素浪人 ("Healthy Surounin"?) who's contributed to a bunch of Dangerous Mezashi Cat albums, since he's participated with several D.M.C arrangers on other albums. |
