Default Petition to add platforms

Here's some platforms missing that I think should be added to the list. The first part of the list are major platforms from the First Golden Age. Recommended consoles to add are in bold.

MAJOR PLATFORMS
Apple II
Apple IIe
Apple Macintosh (original)
Colecovision
Magnavox Odyssey
Magnavox Odyssey^2
Mattel Intellivision
Nintendo Game & Watch (First Nintendo handheld gaming device)
Pinball Machine
Tandy Color Computer

MINOR PLATFORMS

2nd-Generation:
APF-*1000/IM
Atari 8-bit
Bally Astrocade
BBC Micro
EACA Colour Genie 2000
Emerson Arcadia 2001
Entex Adventure Vision
Epoch Cassette Vision
Fairchild Channel F
Interton VC4000
Mattel Aquarius
Milton Bradley Microvision
RCA Studio II
Sega SG-1000
Sord M5
TI-99/4A
Vectrex
VIC-20
VTech CreatiVision

3rd-Generation:
Amstrad GX4000
BBS Door
Casio PV-1000
Epoch Super Cassette Vision
Fujitsu FM-7
Oric 1/Atmos
Sinclair ZX81/Spectrum

4th-Generation:
Acorn Archimedes
IBM OS/2
Pioneer LaserActive
Sega Pico

Watara SuperVision

5th-Generation:
Bandai Pippin
Casio Loopy
CPS Changer
Nintendo 64DD
Palm OS Classic
Tiger Game.com

6th-Generation
Gizmondo
Nokia N-gage
Nuon
Zeebo
Zodiac

Current
Palm webOS
Linux

I recommend at least adding the major ones, the minor ones you can add at your discretion. But as VGMdb was conceived as a database for video game music info, there may come a time where someone will do doujin music from some of these consoles. It would be unique if you had these consoles.

Of them, how many consoles have ever soundtrack releases? VGMdb has run for 6-7 years, and I don't know if there are so many missing ones we need to classify albums... The platform list is already a bit too much if you ask me.

N-gage, besides being Nokia's failed attempt, is on the list already.
Linux is an operating system like Windows 7/8/Vista/XP, Mac OS X etc. and all of these OS are covered under PC platform.
Not saying that every suggestion is obsolete of course... but we do have big existing list... if there are good, valid reasons to add some, I'm sure they'll be added.

And we'll (relatively) soon have successors to PS3/X360 so the list will either way get longer

I think Zhane_Masaka didn't get the purpose of platform represented
it's not supposed to be a list of all consoles/gaming platform (seriously, ti-99 -_-)

it's supposed to have platforms of games that have (or will have) albums
and albums assigned with the matching products, i.e. without adding products that haven't been released at the album release time (I say that for Zhane_Masaka who added products to albums that mustn't)

I think we'll just continue to operate as we have been. Namely, when an album contains music from a console not on the list, we'll add that console to the list.

There's currently some animation albums that can't be classified. For example:
http://vgmdb.net/album/29465
http://vgmdb.net/album/28214

The first one is the soundtrack for a TV special and the second one is a single for an anime music video. These types of albums don't fall under Series, OVA, or Movie.

Sony PlayStation 4 was officially announced at the recent PS Meeting.

Do we really need to add PS4 to the list, when no album is ever announced? I see if one somebody want it to add one more release for Diablo III (although this database has no single Diablo product entries for now!), but we're not a game news site or game database.

Well, PS4 games will surely have soundtracks coming, so it would be a good thing to add now that we know the name of the console. Same thing with the upcoming next-gen Xbox.

What are you saying, that ps4 will haev no gaems? XD
But really, we don't care about specifications, dimensions, pricing etc. all that is really needed for vgmdb (name/abbreviation) has become official (stage of codename "Orbis" is finished and me likes it; no random official final names in Latin like with the Vita lol). Besides, I was just saying, no imperative or anything like that. btw I couldn't care less for Diablo 3.

Xbox 3 is still under codename Durango so it's not official yet.

ah cedille and his new mania to add stuff only if it exists ;p
with this mentality, you could simply add albums once they are released at their release date too ;pppp

I actually see no benefit in adding PS4 to the list at this point. It just makes our platform list slightly longer with a platform that isn't used for any album we've submitted so far. Once any album is coming, it's a must add, but until then, what's a point with it.

Actually, all that VGMdb needs is info on soundtracks release, since VGMdb is a database for soundtracks. A game console's official name being announced would be the coverage of other websites.

I forgot to say I agree with cedille on that point
it's a bit soon imo

edit: atari 7800, atari lynx have no cds, any releases exist for those platforms?

OK... First Wii U album was added on 30/sep/2012 however, the platform itself was selectable at least from 10/mar/2012, I know that because of a rejection by Myrkul here: http://vgmdb.net/db/albums-history.php?id=31949

Has anybody said a word about that (possibly even bigger gap)? It was going to happen anyway, it was inevitable, just like with the ps4. So I can understand the aesthetics reasoning of a longer list, but nothing more than that.

I'm fine with whatever though.

bah, anyways, you know that will be added

actually, that list could be shortened, platforms could have two lists
one list for console makers (like sony, nintendo, ms, etc.) and one list for consoles (sony: ps, ps2, ps3, ps4, psp, psv)

a bit like my proposition to click on game and having only game platform choices, anime for animation choices etc.

Well, there is kinda an album that has music for PS4 game, Diablo III soundtracks, I really doubt that Blizz would change the music for the game for PS3/4 port. :P

True that there's probably no benefit adding PS4 currently, but in the other hand, it won't harm anyone if it would be, knowing the situation.

We'll get the next generation consoles up when the time comes.

So we may need to add one or more new platforms for things that are not covered by [Movie, Series, OVA]. The TV special is something that is the size of an episode, not as long as a movie, and is standalone. Is there a general term we could use to describe something like that, or is Movie general enough to describe any video that is completely self-contained?

Music Video is an interesting one, though maybe it fits under the same classification.

TV specials aren't always one episode so I don't think movie would fit. Here's an example of a 2-episode TV special soundtrack.

Here's the full list of classifications that all the popular anime database sites use:
TV (Series)
OVA
Movie
Web (Series)
TV Special
Music Video

Aside from missing the last two, I notice we do not distinguish between TV and Web (unless in the notes).

So we need PS4 and Xbox One, at least, for album pages since it turns out we have an album that features music from a game for those consoles.

Personally, i am not agree to add platforms retroactively.
That album did not represent PS4 and Xbox One at the time it was released.

But yes we need the new platforms in the database anyway.

Nintendo already has its quasi nextgen console - WiiU.

Existing album entries for Watch_Dogs and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag also apply so it's not only FF15.

That's a point, but I remember that some people disagreed with adding PS3 (the virtually canceled release) to Last Remnant OST. The notion of "what the representing products are" is more or less to each own.

The Versus/XV issue is something that would rarely happen, but perhaps we can create an alias entry, even for products, if we want to be anal-retentive (and of course, I'm an anal guy!).

Thanks, but why not using CamelCase for PS4?

OUYA is seen in all caps on the official places:
http://forums.ouya.tv/
http://www.ouya.tv/
so I think it would be better to keep it like that here too.

We've got "Company System" for all of them. Should it be Ouya OUYA?
