Wow, 4 CDs of music? I thought this was just going to be a short little DS game.

I wonder how many, if any, of these themes will be reprises from the original game.

I wouldn't make too many pre-judgments. It will depend very much on who the composers are and who handles sound production. Hopefully not Design Wave as Ghost Trick was surprisingly bad synth-wise.

My judgment was mostly related to the game though, I must admit.

Still curious to know how much of the soundtrack will be recycled stuff, as Don said.

I know Rei Kondoh's official site lists him as a lead composer of Okamiden, but has it been confirmed that he is the sole composer?

He's the only one listed in the credits. I checked. There may be an "additional music" credit somewhere, though, and possibly reused music from the first game.

Thanks Ben. I looked for credits myself to no avail. Anyway, he's a good choice to maintain the series' tradition. Yes, there are arrangements of Okami's themes throughout the soundtrack.

From the official site, the music is recorded from the pre-DS demos, not the DS synth.

本作にはゲーム中に収録される前のデモ音源をサウンドトラックのために再調整した音源が収録されています。

So, does this give us any indication of the sound quality? Also what does pre-DS mean in this context? I'm not familar with how the game evolved. Was it first planned for another platform and was then ported to DS?

I assume the original versions of the pieces before they were downgraded on to the DS' limited hardware. See Etrian Odyssey series or Portrait of Ruin for examples of the contrast. To me, this is very good news.

Just listening to this. Very soothing soundscape, I really like it.

Masami Ueda should be added as a featured composer. Is there anything reused that was by Yamaguchi?

I've tweaked a bit the tracklist, armed with knowledge from the US version. Some notes on the names:
Spoiler:
- 107 Onibi Market -> lit. "Demon Fire Market", just "Demon Market" in the US. This one seems like a name (like Kamiki, Shinshu, etc) so I keep it.
- 206 Chigyoku Shrine -> lit. Knowing Jewel Shrine. an item called "Knowing Jewel" does exists in the US version, but the place itself was renamed to "Sage Shrine".
- 208 Kouraimaru -> Kourai=Goryeo dynasty, maru=used for ships.
- 210 Himuro -> lit. Ice Room. I thought there was more to it, but it was just a big ice cave.
- 305 Apparition King -> alt. Onryo King (an onryo is a vengeful spirit). King Fury in the US. Decided to keep it like that since Yami (US) / Tokoyami no Sumeragi (JP) was translated directly (ie.- The Emperor of Eternal Darkness) in the Okami OST.
- 307/309 Evil King -> alt. Akuro King, just Akuro in the US. Akuro~Evil Road, evilness, though seemingly there was an actual person nicknamed Akuro King in ancient Japan. Same deal as the above.
- 215 Thunder Gods -> called the Thunders in the US, which is pretty good too, but I left it anyway.

Here are the sound test names. The order was the same as the OST, except the last track is missing. Not sure if I should add them, since they disregard the first Okami sound test and are kind of random ("boss battle"?)
