FYI: Userscript to link to Artists within Notes
VGMdb is an amazing tool to find other works by the vocalists, composers, and arrangers we've grown to love. Sometimes, especially when they contribute one track to a long album or compilation, it's difficult to look up what track they contributed to, and to follow the breadcrumbs to discover their (often amazing) collaborators on that specific track.
I wrote a helper script that can be installed with Tampermonkey or similar extensions that rewrites the Notes section of any Album on this site to replace the name of any collaborator on any track, with a link to the artist. Additionally, if a track is referenced as e.g. M-02, it adds the name of the track for quick reference. It makes it much more seamless to know exactly what you're looking at when you're looking deep in those Notes. For instance, say you're jamming out to the guitar riffs on the Summer Pockets OP, and you want to learn more about the (awesome) arranger and guitarist. Now, you can see the track name more easily to find it online, and click directly into his discography. See before at left and after at right here: Here's the script, simply use the Install link and Tampermonkey should take it from there: https://openuserjs.org/scripts/btown...er_Note_Helper Hopefully this helps some others, and maybe this can become a feature someday! |

Wow, this is great! Will be using it, seems insanely useful. Wondering if it'd work with those kinds of individual track credits too https://vgmdb.net/album/44266 ?

This is neat! Thanks for sharing @btown.
There does seem to be a few issues with partial matching: https://vgmdb.net/album/29563, https://vgmdb.net/album/27541 - In the first example, the "uno" in "Yoshimi Youno" gets matched. - In the second example, "Daisensei Muroya Strings" gets matched "Daisensei Muroya". There's also an issue with artists with asterisks in their name: https://vgmdb.net/album/17346, https://vgmdb.net/album/24648 - In the first example, "P*Light" is displayed as "P*P*Light". - In the second example "DECO*27" doesn't get matched at all. Also, this artist named "3" breaks the script and causes html to be displayed: https://vgmdb.net/album/105736 But aside from that, it seems to work alright. I'm guessing most, if not all, of those could be fixed with a more refined regex function. Last edited by cal; Feb 21, 2021 at 06:52 PM. |

That's some great work! Though sometimes I fear it does too much to be feasible on more complex notes, like on Kid Icarus Uprising https://vgmdb.net/album/33508
