Should we submit albums like this before the campaign is succesful? Or is it OK to submit and then list it as cancelled afterwards (unless they plan to carry on after a failed campaign)?

I'd personally consider them on a case by case basis.

This one is from a high profile composer, so it's probably worth adding either way (though the campaign is already 85% funded with over 2 weeks left).

Edit: Also, I think the "General" classification is fine considering you can apparently pre-order this separately from the game? The creator says it's "available to anyone".

Fair enough. I'll add the other vinyl option later as well then.

Isn't it still a reward for the campaign whether you get it with the game or not? Unless they confirmed it will be available separately after the campaign, in which case I agree that "General" is fine.

It is a campaign reward, but the gift/reward classification isn't used for these types of albums. That classification is for contest rewards and such, not albums that anyone can purchase. Crowdfunding rewards are basically considered pre-orders.

Ah, I wasn't aware. Thanks for clearing that up.

In that case I need to go back to some older albums, because quite a few crowdfunding albums, submitted by both myself and others, have been classified as rewards.

Yeah, you should just use the enclosure classification for those (assuming they came bundled with the game).

When did we reach the consensus about that? Many KS albums are indeed classified as "Promo/Gift/Reward".

Because:
Quote:
Promo/Gift/Reward
Promotional items with extremely limited printings, prizes awarded to contest winners and so on.
Kickstarter rewards aren't promotional items, nor are they contest prizes.

Yes, I'm aware of that. Question is based on a number of instances where it's done otherwise. It is not the first time the actual practice diverges from the tooltips (unfortunately).

I've personally never used it crowdfunding rewards and I was unaware that other people were using it for such.

I'd have to guess that one person started using it (incorrectly) and it just caught on.

Edit: I have sent a message to SS requesting that the tooltip to be updated. Obviously crowdfunding wasn't a big thing back when these guidelines were originally written, so it wasn't accounted for.

Do we need a new category for kickstarter rewards? I am having trouble fitting it into our existing categories.

You don't think that the enclosure category is appropriate for them?

I guess it depends on the Kickstarter.

1. If the KS is for the game, and the soundtrack is in one of the higher tiers, then it is a more specialized kind of enclosure, just like we have First Press Bonus and Retailer Bonus -- those are enclosures too, but more specific.

2. If the KS is just for a soundtrack (and I don't know if there are any currently), then it can't be enclosed in itself. I am not sure how I would categorize it then.

1. So you suggest a new "Kickstarter Bonus" type classification? (though I would use a more broad term such as crowdfunding)

2. There are some Kickstarter projects specifically for albums/soundtracks, however I can't think of any that didn't have some sort of general release afterwards.

It's up to you. It should be pretty easy to change any existing albums. (just have to search for "Kickstarter" in the notes)

The game will now release later this month (for PC and PS4, other platforms later), so this might need a release date update.

This release was cancelled (alongside the other vinyl reward from the Kickstarter) and is replaced with this release instead: https://vgmdb.net/album/96644
