Great composer line-up and probably a limited release. Plus it's for a Nintendo soundtrack which sometime tend to fetch a pretty penny regardless of quality

Someone on eBay is trying to sell Famicom Graffiti for $3400:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/324301315967?ul_noapp=true Someone should tell the seller it's a $50 album on YJA. |

I've noticed a few more that are likely rare or at least uncommon.
Elebits, Skygunner, and Cho ren sha68k original soundtrack. looking at JP sites there's sometimes a few copies of the Elebits album, it's typically priced around 10,000 to 25,000 yen https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/g394171505 I've never seen or been able to find the Skygunner Soundtrack since it went out of print. Specifically the first version of 68k it's only in four collections on this database, the complete edition seems to be more common. https://www.suruga-ya.jp/product/detail/186121154 Also this one: Xardion https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/f424631103 This is the only copy I can find for sale right now. Any particular reason this "limited edition" version of Eyes On Me featured in FINAL FANTASY VIII went for 56,790 yen?
https://home.exetel.com.au/layzee/temp/20210621FF8.html It may or may not be a bootleg (the EMI Malaysia suggest not) and looks pretty unremarkable to me unless it has some specific regional value over there. |

I think it’s a legitimate printing.
Something I’ve noticed is that non-Japanese pressings bring a premium on YJA. For example, the US version of Donkey Kong Country 2 sells for much more on YJA than on eBay. I would guess it’s because most folks in Japan just don’t use eBay, and so to them the album is rare and hard to get (hence the high price). It could be similar for Malaysian goods as well. Out of curiosity, does anyone know where to find a cheaper copy? e.g. is there some Malaysia-specific auction site or online marketplace? |

They don't really have eBay in Japan.

To be fair sometimes you can even get rare US CDs from Japan for way cheaper prices.
For example I got the US Rule of Rose CD for around 11.000 Yen, which isn't that bad. And 2 Haunting Ground CDs for around 7000-8000 Yen each. I also was able to buy 1 Uncharted 2 soundtrack and 2 Uncharted 3 soundtracks for around 1500 Yen each lol. Now that was dirt cheap. Japan is also great for buying foreign video games. Most are dirt cheap. Their ebay is yahoo auctions, which I find better than ebay tbh. Last edited by Jimi; Jul 9, 2021 at 10:28 PM. |

While I don't use the website itself due to UI and 18+ restriction, I definitely do so via a proxy service's listings. The way YAJ categorizes things and the amount of categories is great. My main issue is that sellers sometimes ignore the categories and list it wrongly (download PC titles under packaged PC titles is the worst offender...).
And yeah, Ebay is just straight up garbage. I basically don't use it. |

The most expensive game CD I've ever purchased was the "Boktai Sound Rare Tracks - East of the Sun & West of the Moon." You can occasionally find a copy being auctioned on Yahoo Japan, mine cost me ¥60,000.
I'm not sure how much it's actually worth, but the "Guilty Gear XX Λ Core: Secret Gig" seems to be pretty rare. I've never been able to find one being sold anywhere which is unfortunate seeing as it's still the only release to feature "Keep the Flag Flying" on it. |

On Mercari Japan, I can find SOLD listings for anywhere between ¥3500 and ¥10,000. But yeah, no current active listings there for it. On Yahoo Japan Auctions, I found one SOLD listing for ¥5750, but no current ones. So, to anyone reading this who might want a copy, I think it's probably best to just hold out for a cheaper listing to pop up. Usually when there aren't any other active listings, you'll be left with just one or two where the seller is asking a ridiculous price because they (currently) have the market cornered. But it's not a good idea to pay that much, because then it just drives the price up for the next time someone lists it. |

Has anyone noticed that on YJA lately, copies of old albums which are mint + complete are bringing absolutely sky-high prices? Some examples are below.
These prices make me want to list some of my albums at high prices, not because I want to sell them, but to see if anyone is crazy enough to bite. - Custom Robo Music Theater; 301,000 yen; https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/d527715080 - Super Donkey Kong 3; 222,200 yen; https://auctions.yahoo.co.jp/closeds...n=100&select=2 - Super Mario RPG (doesn't even have the obi or stickers); 116,600 yen; https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/n521116382 - KOEI Original BGM Collection Vol.1 Rekishi Sanbusaku + Grade Up Version; 53,800 yen (this album is worth like 7,500 yen without the obi); https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp...on/x1000256506 - Yoshi's Island OST (only the obi and stickers, NO DISC OR BOOKLET); 50,000 yen; https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/c912497016 - Fushigi no Yume no Alice; 47,850 yen; https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/l673268321 - SD Gundam Gashapon Senshi Daishuugou; 42,500 yen; https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/l673268321 |

In fact, I see the last 3 copies all sold for more than 180,000 yen, and none of them were totally complete: https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/j737508724 (missing registration card and NTT information paper) https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/x789510727 (missing obi) https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/m496720124 (missing all extras) |

220,000 Yen for DKC2 in the end... still crazy if you ask me. This album isn't very rare and the music from the second game wasn't very memorable anyway, was it?
The SD Gundam Gashapon CD for instance somehow justifies it's price because I never see it up for sale, let alone in mint condition with no sunfade (green obi is prone to it). But oh well, still plenty of good music to be found for low prices so I won't complain |

In the past year, that's been happening with video games as well. I bought a copy of Aria of Sorrow on the GBA at launch and, for whatever reason, never got around to playing it. I was checking eBay this week and saw that the cheapest sealed copy that sold in the last 3 months topped US$1,100.

That person will be in for a surprise. btw. was lucky today, and got myself Metal Gear Solid 2 Ultimate Sorter (BLACK) for only 16.000 Yen, which is quite a steal. Looked for it for ages. Phew. eBay copy is 500 USD, lol. Last edited by Jimi; Sep 3, 2021 at 05:21 AM. |

Dreams of a reprint.
Unless it's either impossible or the people behind it prefer the glory of that "rare CD that goes for ridiculous prices," or it just wouldn't sell. Take Square that constantly reprints Romancing Saga and Final Fantasy soundtracks, but Rudra no Hihou, Treasure Hunter G, and some others remain frozen in the past. |

I got lucky a few years back, got a Treasure Hunter G for cheap, but no spinecard. Didn't even know it was hard to find back then.
