I added this album to the database because it features songs used in both the Dance Dance Revolution and In the Groove series.

This seems to be a Norwegian release. I added the Japanese release as a child.

Anyone got any source for the exact release date of the Norvegian print ?
Just wonder if it's really the parent of the Japanese version. edit: i also reverted you edit for his name, Bambee should be the one to credit as it's her "scene" allias. Last edited by Myrkul; Jul 29, 2011 at 06:02 AM. |

Yeah, we really don't have anything beyond the year for the Norwegian release.
I assumed the Norwegian release was the parent because she's a Norwegian artist, and because Discogs lists it as the parent. http://www.discogs.com/Bambee-On-Ice/master/227518 However, it's not a solid confirmation. |

Hmm, isn't this licensed music though - not made specifically for the games?

Well considering the BeForU and sweetbox album(s) in the database, I don't see why that would be an issue. Several artists have music used in rhythm games, which gained them notoriety, but they still have musical careers outside of those rhythm games.
My thoughts are that if their album contains songs used in a video game, it should qualify for listing in the database. However if the artist releases an album and none of the songs are used in a video game, it should not. |

Well, BeForU is a different kettle of fish. From my understanding, the group was put together by Naoki Maeda for the express purpose of making songs for DDR (specifically, "Dive"). Ultimately, every song on the BeForU debut album made its way into a Bemani game:
チカラ - GF 9/DM 8 LOVE2シュガ→ - Pop'n Music DIVE - DDR 5th Mix ヒマワリ - IIDX Happy Sky BABY LOVE - IIDX 10th Style LOVE SHINE - DDR Extreme BRE∀K DOWN!- DDRMAX2 Silvia Drive - IIDX 9th Style Firefly - DDRMAX ☆shining☆ - GF 11/DM 10 SHOOTING STAR - IIDX 10th Style TEARS - DDR Extreme true... - DDRMAX GRADUATION~それぞれの明日~ - DDR Extreme |

True, but then BeForU came out with additional albums BeForU II and BeForU III. Those albums are in the database too, and I don't believe every track on those albums has been used in a rhythm game.

I think the difference is that BeForU was formed to make VGM. I don't think Bambee's original intention was to make VGM.

Still, there are other artists in the database that may not have been created specifically for video game music, but have become popular through it. I don't think it really matters which came first, the album or the video game, it is that the music was popularized by the rhythm game it was featured in.

I don't think this should be debated forever.. we do have plenty of artists and albums like this.
I can think of the recent Mind Travel / Superfly, that is a perfect example. That's an entry for just 1 track... i am not really fond of this but we've been doing it for a lot of artists. (ex, ex, ex)... |

More examples:
http://vgmdb.net/album/18982 http://vgmdb.net/album/16466 I'm fine with this, as long as we don't start adding entire discographies of artist that have no relation to VGM nor anime at all, apart from one or two tracks. |
