I bugged Runic Games about this release on Twitter. They said they weren't behind it, that as best they can tell, the HIB guys took the .ogg files from the game, gave them generic titles (no track numbers) and published them with the bundle.
I asked if Runic or Uelmen would ever bother to make a more formalized (free) release, as they've done w/ Torchlight II, and their response was "we really don't see the purpose in that." So... yeah. |

Well that ended in disappointment.

If it's all the same to them, they should put the files on their website like what Blizzard did with Diablo 2's soundtrack.

So, just to be clear, all indications are that this is a game rip being distributed without consent, right?
This should probably be deactivated per this discussion. |

It sounds like they didn't get consent but that Runic doesn't care about consent since the game is released as part of the bundle too and all the .ogg files are there.
In any case, if you want to deactivate it that'd be fine with me. |

Maybe this is a case where we should mark it as a digital bootleg and put some clarification in the notes. Otherwise, we have to deactivate the entire Humble Bundle (and perhaps all the Humble Bundles) if they are digitally distributing content where they don't have the rights.

The .ogg files do have same titles on game's own folder. Also, can you ask did they provide the soundtrack for GOG.com?

I didn't know GOG had a Torchlight soundtrack offered ...? Is it the same deal as the .ogg file folder / HIB soundtrack?

That I don't know, haven't bought it from GOG. But I would assume it's same deal there.

Bump.
Yes, GOG has the soundtrack bundled with their 2009 release; they do this with many of their games. That release seems to have different files, as they're in mp3 instead. At least for the GOG release, it seems unfair to compare what is an official release in all but name to some fileplanet upload. I can't really say anything about the HIB release, but it seems to be the same. Last edited by Despatche; Oct 10, 2012 at 10:17 AM. |
