New "popularity" metric for albums

The "top rated" albums statistic has been changed to a "popularity" metric (courtesy of Yorhel -- or applehq, I guess -- from VNDB). You can view the popularity metric as a measure of user ranking as opposed to user rating.

In other words, this metric disregards the rating completely, and instead treats the user rating as a personal ranking. A person with more votes AND larger distribution of those votes has more influence. If a person rates 100 albums a 10 (or 1) and nothing else, his influence is virtually zero.

Therefore, the more votes an album has, and the higher the rank those votes correspond to for each user's voting distribution, the more popular an album is.

This seems a lot more accurate as far as album popularity goes. Not only that, it will encourage people to spread their votes out more along the spectrum of stars. (For example, with my personal rating method, a 3.0 can still be a good album). Nice work, Blah!

I changed just some of my ratings and added a few new ones. I'm still shy when it comes to rating an album with just a single point *g*
