Hello,
I got this error while trying to upload scans since yesterday night: "Warning: copy(/var/www/www.vgmdb.net/db/assets/covers/2083-1191412683.jpg) [function.copy]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /covers-submit.php on line 188" (for example) I know you are working on the website, that's maybe why i am having this error Edit: It"s working now! Yeah, I accidentally changed the folder permission settings while working on hotlinking prevention.
Both should work now! |

I noticed that when you search for something, the result summary is incorrect. It displays: "Showing results 1 to 1 of X".

Okay, fixed that one.
0.9.3 - You can now conduct searches on tracknames - Changes to page layout - Several minor bug fixes |

|
||||
0.10.1
- The Main Page, Album Page, and Album Gallery have undergone a full layout redesign. - The Lyrics and Sheet Music sections have been removed for now. - Albums that were simultaneously released on multiple media (tape, record, etc.), are now described on the album display page as 'alternate printings' instead of reprints. This is done automatically by checking the date. - Redbook/Rip has been changed to [Bootleg]. These are now all defined in one place. - A few more stats have been added to the Contents Statistics display. |

0.10.2
- Reprint system has been reworked to allow reprints to have different titles, tracklists, and release types. By default, the album title and tracklists are inherited from the parent, but that can now be overridden. - Foreign language reprints now listed as "(country) Printing", which is autodetected from the price type. - Reprint Stitcher/Unstitcher added to Staff Control panel. - Linkback detection added to album display. |

0.10.3
- The Database field that stores track titles was increased in size to allow for larger Japanese names (which occupy several characters per Japanese character) - Added color highlighting to collections - Removed the collapsed text from platform and game fields on the album display - Transformed several pages into the new style |

Not exactly a bug but, "Atari 2600" is listed twice in the platform(s)list, and FM-TOWNS isn't listed at all. I think it would be a good idea to add FM-TOWNS. I also kinda miss a "company" field to fill in. That would help with "related albums", I think, and would be a great variable anyhow, IMO.
Cheers. Edit: Another question. Do you feature multiple tracklists? Like one original (japanese), one romanized, and a translated? I guess you have answered and / or discussed this before, but I kinda don't have a computer so I can't find all the stuff really. =) Last edited by marieLeo; Oct 10, 2007 at 10:10 AM. |

Good catch. I replaced one of the Ataris with Fujitsu FM-Towns.
What do you mean by the company field? We have a "Publisher" field. Or do you mean the company that published the game whose music is featured on the album? |

I suppose marieLeo is referring to the company that published the game. We'll be able to work that in once the game data is normalized. That'll eventually be done along with the publisher data.
And yes, you can add multiple tracklists to an album, whether it's a language translation or an alternate version of the same language. |

0.11.0
- New artist database and artist profile pages - Artist names now display as links for albums which have been processed through "Manage Artists" (links are only visible to logged in users for now) For an example of an album with artist links, try this: AIR Original Soundtrack For an example artist profile: Jun Maeda As artists are linked to albums, their discographies will be automatically generated. Some of the advanced features will need to be worked in before I announce this update on the frontpage. |

- Recent update pages overhauled. - Recent artist page added - A number of improvements to the artist and album linking. |

0.11.2
- Gallery pages are now powered by the Highslide script, which allows for in-page image loading, full size expansion, dragging operations and keyboard navigation. If Javascript is disabled the gallery falls back to the old method of opening full images in a new page. - Website section in artist profile and editing now functional - Slight tweak to the header navigation (dropdown menu for browse) - Each parent album now has a small drop down box with links to all of its reprints. - Nearly every page has now been updated to the new style. |

The new Gallery is awesome. Note that you need to be logged in to use it.
0.11.3 - Russian Rubles added to Price fields. - Staff pages updated to new style. - Message log viewer migrated from CMS to Staff CP. - Fixed bug when browsing artist letter "#" - Some new artist statistics added to Stats page. |

Would it be possible to make it so that visiting the database doesn't mean that you've also "visited" the forums? I've noticed that I tend to miss new posts unless I check the forums first thing, because they'll no longer be "new" once I've browsed the database for a bit.
See what I mean? |

Secret, a suggestion on bug tracking using the forum (if you are not using bug tracking software):
1) Create a new forum for bugs. All threads in this forum are bug reports only. Nothing else in this forum 2) Each thread should be about one bug. People converse on that one bug only in that thread. 3) As bugs are fixed, close that thread. If you pile all bug reports an conversations in one thread, it will be a pain to find the right bug report, even if you use the forum's search engine. |

Small thing, but is it possible to have the search function disregard special accents? Specifically I just searched for Einhander and got no results, because it's listed (correctly, of course) as Einhänder (I had to cut and paste that, as I don't even know how to get the umlaut on my keyboard).

Luckilly, we haven't had many bug reports so far, so a single thread has been manageable. I think that once we leave Beta though, that we'll probably just have a thread for each bug.
As for issues mentioned by Sabreman and Seanne, I don't know how to solve either of them, per se. Threads are marked as read, because all of our site privilege management is keyed to the user account, which is logged in when you visit the site. I don't think we'd want to give that up. For accent insensitivity, there is a way to configure the SQL server to be insensitive to accented characters while querying/sorting, but it seems to be a server-wide setting, so we'd have to investigate how that would affect everything else. Another solution (at least for album titles) would be to include the non-accented title as one of the alternates. |

I've experimented with a couple of SQL queries and I think I hit upon a workable (temporary) solution, however for the long run we'd have to think hard about charsets and collation issues.
Alright, went ahead and implemented the query tweak. Searching should be case-insensitive and accent-insensitive now. |

0.11.4
- Collection Browsing by Letter has been implemented. - Stats from the old collection page have been moved to the stats page. - Staff Notes field has been added to the album display page (I'd totally forgotten about it.) - Search engine is now accent insensitive. However, this is a temporary fix, because it makes searches a bit too slow. A better solution is being looked into. - By popular demand, you can now search for the 2-letter phrase "ys". This is less useful than you might think. - Fixed a bug where the album's tracklist count wasn't decremented when a tracklist was deleted or rejected. |

There's a bit of a problem with tracklists that have 10 or more discs.
Example: http://www.vgmdb.net/db/albums.php?id=2570 edit: Another thing. On the first 'Submit Album' page, only albums added by non-staff members are shown under ' Latest Submissions'. Don't know if that's intentional, or what. Last edited by seanne; Oct 25, 2007 at 04:30 AM. |

I've discovered a bug with the tracklist system. It'll only add the track titles last alone standing word, i.e.:
"01 The Devisice Battle" => "01 Battle" All information between the tracknumber and the titles last word won't be added. Last edited by Gaia; Oct 30, 2007 at 02:43 AM. |

That definitely isn't happening in all cases, so there must be something very specific to the tracklist that you were entering at the time. Do you have the exact text block that you pasted? It could be that some character in there is confusing the parser.

I just tested that text out, and it worked fine, both on an album with existing tracklists, and as the first tracklist on a new album. Could you give it a try again, cutting the tracklist directly from the post and pasting it into an album? Don't worry, I'll delete it after the test.
If it works, we'll probably chalk this up to a fluke. My suspicion is still some kind of funky character. |

I didn't realize before, but this is really a site-wide issue, affecting all types of listings (search results, collections, covers). While not as important as in tracklists I thought I'd point it out in case you hadn't noticed.

I think Seanne is talking about ascii character alphabetization, which produces:
Book 10 Book 11 Book 1 Book 2 It's ubiquitous though, in everything we do with computers. I've gotten used to it over the years. |
