This tracklisting is so confusing. I'm not sure why "Faith in Her Fury" or "Primogenitor" are here when there's already a post-1.0 soundtrack with both of them available. Seems like it would have been smarter to put some prominent 1.0 tracks like "To the Fore" or "Steel Reason" as they've done over the past couple of releases instead.

Similarly, do we really need an echoed version of "Exponential Entropy" or the Temporal Stasis loop? Just seems like unnecessary filler when again, any number of key reused 1.0 tracks would fit.

Otherwise, this is pretty much exactly what I expected and that's great. I'm glad all three Tactics Ogre tracks made the cut and it'll be great having mastered copies of Metal Brute Justice and Battle to the Death. Curious how the soundtrack ends with "Another Brick" when 3.56 added another track. It can't be Track 50, as that's allegedly the orchestral bonus track; maybe it was unfinished/incomplete and the full version is in Stormblood?

I don't think the orchestral bonus tracks are included in that tracklist. In the Heavensward soundtrack, they were not.

But there could also be a secret track, like in previous FFXIV soundtracks.

It's possible Track 50 is the new track from 3.56 and its name was omitted for being spoilery or something. It plays in a pretty pivotal scene, so perhaps.

I don't think there's a secret track. Apparently either the label heads or Square Enix or otherwise didn't like them so Soken was told to stop including them. I assume that's why Heavensward onward have had either orchestral bonus tracks (HW, Far Edge) or alternate recordings + in-game studio tracks (Duality). Any idea of what the orchestral track is?

No idea! Most likely something from Heavensward, but it's just a wild guess.

Husband pointed out it's probably included along with "Faith in Her Fury" on account of players that started with Heavensward and see those tracks more within the context of Revenge of the Horde. Wild guess, but maybe that's it. I guess I just feel by the same logic we'd have "Seven Jesters," "To the Fore," and "Steel Reason" on later soundtracks too. Shrug!

I'm hoping the orchestral track is something like "Imagination," honestly.

EDIT: This is the 3.56 track/cutscene (obvious spoiler warning, etc etc) in question. I think this might be track 50; it's an orchestral arrangement of "Order Yet Undeciphered," to boot.

Fog of Phantom, Blasphemous Experiment and Notice of Death; I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure they're directly taken from the Wheel of Fate/PSP soundtrack. I don't think they were rearranged at all for XIV.

Thanks. I think so too, now that I've looked up the originals on Youtube.

FYI, I've gone ahead and matched the caps lock on the titles of all FF14 albums of this type. It was all over the place. I wanted some consistency!

http://vgmdb.net/album/66819
http://vgmdb.net/album/55934
http://vgmdb.net/album/53433
http://vgmdb.net/album/44019
http://vgmdb.net/album/39645

But if anyone has a good reason to change them back or something, I'm open for debate.

The 50th track is called Scale and Steel (銀鱗と鋼鉄), as per http://www.square-enix.co.jp/music/s...ate/tracklist/

It's very likely the final track from patch 3.56.

Also, the bonus contents is:

Quote:
1. 銀鱗と鋼鉄 / Scale and Steel(5.1ch Sound Orchestra ver.)
2. FINAL FANTASY XIV FAN FESTIVAL 2016 in TOKYO
Special Live Stage
2016.12.24 Piano (出演:Keiko with Susan Calloway)
2016.12.25 Band (出演:THE PRIMALS)

Very possible. If "Scale" isn't and it's some arrangement of "Stone and Steel," sign me up. I think that was the best track from 3.0.

ETA: just realized the "scale" in question isn't Nidhogg and the "steel" is not Ishgard. Derp.

I've added composition/arrangement credits alike the ones shown in the Far Edge of Fate OST website. Of course, we all know how great SE can be at properly crediting things -rolls eyes-
So some of it may be inaccurate.

I fixed the album info, there was some incorrect transcription of Composers and Arrangers. Also, added some additional information from the inserts that isn't present on the website.

There might possible be a Hisaishi homage in M-45, 1:39ish ~ 2:20ish, distinctly at 1:57 ~ 2:20. It's sounds like a homage to Joe Hisaishi's "Theme of Marco and Gina" from the Porco Rosso Image Album, which is the main Porco Rosso theme/motif that plays throughout the film and other pieces (Bygone Days, Porco e Bella). It is slightly simpler in arrangement, or I could just be hearing things.

Can't find any YouTube videos of the song strictly from the image album, but here's the Live in Budokan performance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gpr_ISfWFsk&t=3754 and Bygone Days: https://youtu.be/NDlLYVZzMzE?t=33 compared with https://youtu.be/pzIuB4lgTNA?t=115.

Comments/thoughts appreciated

Is she featured on this soundtrack? She's singing in "Heavensward", the first track from the Heavensward soundtrack.

She was linked in this release before I applied my draft. So far I've only found Vgmdb and a Japanese site credited her in this album, which was probably an oversight. Well I would definitely assume she is not in the chorus in "Revenge of the Horde".

She was credited on the actual Far Edge splash page when it launched, iirc, but was later then dropped from the credits before the album came out.
