I don't see Aoyama's name anywhere in the notes section. Do you see it there?

Aoyama comes from staff roll, as mentioned on the notes on album page.

No, I wasn't asking whether he contributed music. I know he did. I'm asking whether he contributed to the liner notes, which, as far as I can see, he didn't.

Which is why Razakin said Aoyama comes from the staff roll... because Aoyama doesn't come from the liner notes. At least, that's what I understood. Because Aoyama doesn't come from the liner notes, he's not mentioned there at all. That is, as long as we're looking for the same kanji (青山 響) from the same liner notes (http://vgmdb.net/db/covers.php?do=view&cover=72623). However, we get Aoyama's credit from the staff roll, which is why we've added him in this entry as a composer.

No he didn't contribute to the liner notes section, my mistake I thought he was someone else there. A shame...

It's just that I'm really curious about his role here, like it was in Hearts...

The note section says "Motoi Sakuraba: towns (ethnic), dungeons (synthy rhythms, dark and heavy, calm and beautiful), live instruments when possible, battles (cute, ethnic, orchestral), movies, staff roll"

So, I suppose Aoyama did everything that isn't this?

To elaborate, these are things "he did", but not "all he did". ie.- some towns/dungeons/etc may be by Aoyama, while stuff Sakuraba didn't mention (characters, events) by himself.
(except the "movies" tracks which I'm pretty sure Sakuraba makes them all)

Guess time:
Aoyama: 1.17, 1.20, 2.27, 3.01, 3.03, 3.07, 3.09, 3.22, 3.23, 3.25
Aoyama?: 3.21, 3.24
Sakuraba?: 2.04, 2.09, 2.23, 2.24, 3.06, 3.10, 3.16, 3.17, 3.19, 4.04
Sakuraba: rest

The live piano/better synth this time makes Sakuraba stand out more than the midi-ish Aoyama I think.
(also what's the deal with those awful dungeon loops?)

I have these noted as being by Shinji Tamura: Disk 1: 17, 19, 20, Disk 2: 2, 11, 24, 27, Disk 3: 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 9, 10, 17, 19, 21, 22, 23, 25.

You mean 1-20 "Lying in the Darkness"? Yeah, I'd like to know the story behind that one as well. Can't imagine the thought process, like the sound director demands a lazy 6 second loop less complex than any jingle, composer "composes" three notes, then whoever decides the track lengths for the CD goes "hell yeah, I'll loop that one for over 20 times". x_X

1.20 is a new low, but 2.27 is no slouch either. 3.07 and 3.09 are more layered but still loop the same notes again and again. Dear lord.

Good job picking out the additional tracks for Tamura I'm also unsure about.

For 3-17 and especially 3-19 the drums (rhythm, repetition and particular sound design) are imo a give away that they are by Tamura.

Some short notes re the remaining tracks:
1-03 bongo and latter symphonic peak tell me it's a classic Sakuraba calm intro area piece. 1-18 has an orchestral build up that's typical to Sakuraba and can't imagine Tamura doing. 1-12 is a close call, very Tamura-esque, but the same strings led me to conclude it's by Sakuraba in my case. ^^
2-12 is a lovely piece, 3/4 signature tracks imo make the composer even harder to tell apart, style with those drums points to Tamura, quality otherwise more to Sakuraba. 2-23 especially the drum play is too varied for this to be by Tamura imo, sounds like a track for a Camelot game (Golden Sun or Mario Golf).
3-24 the pronounced quirky bass is something Sakuraba likes to use in his silly tracks, though he usually uses an analog synth sound for it.

1-03 sound like a typical mellow Sakuraba track for me (especially the use of flute and harp arpeggios). Compare this to his work on other RPGs like Eternal Sonata, Tales of the Abyss, etc.
1-12 is a bit more difficult, indeed. A first, it may sound like him, but when you listen to it carefully, it's more Tamura (too repetitive, and the strings sound too simple for a Sakuraba track, at least for me). It's basically the same like 1-19, which has Sakuraba's orchestral samples, but the structure is way too simple for him.
1-18 I think is Sakuraba, it sounds more like his works, even if it's short.
2-12 is one of my favorite town themes, very whimsical and delightful. And like 1-12 another difficult task... but I guess it's another Tamura track? Especially with Graces you'll notice how he evolved and refined his skills within the years.
For 2-23 I share the same opinion as Guitarist.
3-17 sounds like one of Sakuraba's more experimental tracks for me. The drums, synth (especially from the one minute mark, typical). But I'm not totally sure...
3-19 shares some similarities with 3-25 in terms of synth and style. The former I'm not totally sure, it sounds more like Sakuraba, but the latter is definitely Tamura, as Guitarist guessed. I would choose Sakuraba for 3-17 and 3-19.

1.12 1.19 2.12 3.17 3.19, while I agree they are a bit un-Sakuraba, I'm having trouble accepting they are Tamura's.

Considering that:
- this one has some of his worst tracks (=he isn't even trying anymore)
- I can't remember he ever composing orchestral stuff
- still uses fairly synthy synths

I can't think how he could come up with decent orchestral tracks or synth 'modulation' in 3.19.
I'm starting to think Hiroshi Tamura threw in a bunch of songs while nobody looked.
