I doubt GOG was even there back in 99 so the release date is false.
Also, i am still unsure if we'r taking these releases.
If we do accept digital soundtracks that comes as bonus with a digital game, there's dozens of "hidden objects" games that comes with this kind of bonuses.

I don't think it's a legitimate release. This is actually a straight up gamerip.
Most if not all of GOG's bonus soundtracks are gamerips.

It's fully authorized and provided by the publisher, so as far as we should be concerned, it's legitimate regardless of its origins.

Other soundtracks seem to be iffy but as mentioned in that thread, if that's what the publisher gives them...

Didn't know GOG gets these files from the publishers. Hmm, while it does make it [kind of] official, it just doesn't seem like a real soundtrack release to me, because technically it is still a gamerip.

Alone in the Dark 2 case only strengthens the doubt...

They have to get them from the publisher. How else would they get stuff like this, which is a combination of both Indigo Prophecy soundtrack albums? And their soundtrack for XIII is an MP3 rip of this album (I still haven't added it yet.)

How else would they get it? They could always rip it themselves, which is what I though they were doing all along, but apparently publishers are doing it for them.

Also what both Indigo Prophecy soundtrack albums are you referring to?

The GOG soundtrack has what seems to be two different albums rolled into one. Angelo Badalamenti's score is numbered 1 to 25, and the licensed songs are numbered B01 to B12. Based on other releases of theirs, which were official soundtrack rips, I figured there were two soundtracks released.

Does this mean there weren't any soundtrack albums released other than the GOG one?

To my knowledge Indigo Prophecy never had any official soundtrack releases, aside from this GOG one.
Yes it's a combination of game's score + licensed songs. While the licensed songs were released in the past on CDs by their respective authors, Angelo Badalamenti's score was never released outside the game.

Though as long as the licensed songs are present inside the game's files in their full length - they can be ripped just like the rest of the tracks.

This is my whole point - anyone can make a gamerip and obviously it wouldn't be considered a legitimate soundtrack release, but if that someone gets a "seal of approval" from the publisher - then it's all good?.. GOG releases are either CD-to-MP3 rips or gamerips. Should they have a separate entry in VGMdb? Personally I'm not so sure.

For example check out this Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy [Deluxe 3-Disc Soundtrack]. Is it a real deal? Of course not, it is a fan made compilation of tracks that they chose to brake into 3 discs. Sort of like GOG chose to number the score 1 to 25, and the licensed tracks B01 to B12.

I have a PC version of Indigo Prophecy (never finished it though) and I'm gonna try to do a complete gamerip, out of curiosity, and see if the tracks' length matches to those from GOG.

Doesn't matter. If the publishers or rights owners allow it, then it stops being just a gamerip and it becomes a legit soundtrack. If we start saying some are and some aren't...
