Great NEC PC-98 Music
This is a thread to discuss music that is top-tier from the NEC PC-98's (or 88) software catalogue.
I've yet to download the .something files for the music, but I have been listening to http://gyusyabu.ddo.jp/ website of several PC-98 game tracks. For right now my favorite music as follows: 1) http://gyusyabu.ddo.jp/MP3/1988/SOR98.html Sorcerian Just ridiculously good upbeat tune. Sounds much better in its native format than in the symphony arrange. 2) http://gyusyabu.ddo.jp/MP3/1996/YUNO1.html - TOP VIDEO (Beginning part and part that starts at 4:08) YUNO I can only describe this as sparkly music. 3) http://gyusyabu.ddo.jp/MP3/1989/FH1.html - (Middle of video [Beethoven 5th?] to end) FireHawk 4) http://gyusyabu.ddo.jp/MP3/1989/PV1.html Providence Wow. Wow.

so many great soundtracks for this system (and PC-88). are we listing favorite's here? because i could list quite a few :P
Rusty, Starfire, Princess Maker 1-2, Marionette Mind, and Zan: Yasha Enbukyoku all have great, but overlooked soundtracks. I'm forgetting many more though. |

Providence in particular catches my fancy; it's a shame Manabu Saito died so young, basically age 22 when his career was just starting. Guy did some excellent music for Jerry Boy and System Sacom's visual novel games!

Plundered from my STC post.
Just about anything Falcom released on it, their composers always got good sound out of it. I liked when they got up to Brandish 3, Legend of Heroes III and LOH IV, where they were basically doing epic RPG scores on it. The various remakes of both LOH scores totally pale in comparison to the PC-98 originals (not helped by Falcom's poor choice of samples). And of course, classic Ys and Sorcerian. Yuzo Koshiro was always a fan of it, he redid a couple scores using PC-98 synth (Etrian Odyssey and one of the Metrovanias). Other than the ones Falcom released, I don't think there was too much officially released PC-98 music. I'm more than happy to be proven wrong. Last edited by GoldfishX; Oct 30, 2013 at 06:08 AM. |

I had Providence in my playlist (it's in the VGM format) but I had ignored it until now. I love the opening song, it's just so Japanese PC-ish haha.

Playlist with a lot of PC-98 music. I think stc and vgmdb should have vgm hall of fame.
