Default VGM disc rot?

Are there any vgm cds that have been pressed badly and have succumbed to disc rot that you own?

Not disc rot but Mystik Ark is poorly pressed with a terrible, terrible hiss in the left channel of the entire cd. I've never heard anything as bad as that.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disc_rot

This happened to a Beethoven Symphonies disc my parents owned. Made it mostly unplayable.

Wow. That'd be awful for some of the more expensive albums. I've had that happen to some CD-r's I burned because I neglected them.

If you take care of your CD's and not keep them near sources of extreme heat or cold (air vents, windows with sun glare, etc) they should last for decades.

Disc rot has NOTHING to do with that. It's an issue caused by an error at the manufacturing plant.

The oldest CDs will start showing signs of disc rot before the end of 2012.

A true one.

I've bought and inspected several (non VGM) CDs from the early to mid 1980s that are almost unplayable because of disc rot. This mostly happens to discs that don't have any artwork on the label side, just text. I don't know if that's related to the rot or not.

This is why I rip everything I purchase to FLAC / CUE immediately.

I don't own any VGM that have disc rot. And have not heard of any that do.

My lazerdisc movies are a different story. A couple of those suffer from lazer rot. But thats because of the way they were made, not because of age.

I guess we all can agree that VGM CD pressings do not contain CD rot. At least none that are known of.

I have some pretty old VGM discs (1988) and no signs at all so far...

But yeah, don't get me started on laser rot on laserdiscs... Such a tragedy.
