Volume two! just when I had lost all hopes, yay!

Classic Konami... Only they could have named a series with an ateji spelling "Contra" and then title the ending theme of the game "Sandinista". Big Boss would be proud.

What tracks have music from Operation C? I don't see anything in the notes.

Wasn't Operation C just recycled Contra music?

Thanks. I didn't recognize it, so it looked kind of random.

So, even as a rough draft, how about a composer breakdown for this release?

Contra (Arcade) is: Kazuki Muraoka

Super Contra (Arcade) is: Motoaki Furukawa & Kazuki Muraoka

Operation C (Gameboy) is: H. Funauchi

Contra Force (NES) is: Kenichi Matsubara, Yasuhiko Manno, Tomoya Tomita

Contra ReBirth (Wii) is: Manabu Namiki

Yes, but it has some original BGMs as well (e.g. Stage Select, Area 2, Sub-Boss, Ending).

Ahhh, I forgot stage 2! That was good, as was the ending...I should try an arrangement of the ending theme some day...so many tunes, so little time!

EGG has made a correction to the tracklist. I'm not sure if the error will be printed on the package or not.

Disc 2
Track 25 RUINED BASE (ボス1)
Track 27 CREATURE FROM OUTER SPACE (ボス2)

According to the scans, the booklet shows the faulty tracklist, so I'm not sure if the corrected tracklist should be used, or if the error should just be mentioned in the notes.

Jukebeat is a mobile (iOS) installment of the jubeat series by Konami, in this game they have a Contra Medley: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwRrViJes8s

And New LovePlus is that dating sim for 3DS who got famous some time ago in Japan. Maybe that last track on Disc 3 plays in some part of the game [never played it].

The concept art of all the Contra enemies is fascinating. I didn't know those bubble bullets spawned by the twin brains in the end of the second 3D stage had an official name. I never saw them listed on Kommander HZK's page (edit: also, it turned out he had another enemy's name wrong due to a mixup in Gamest's coverage of the first arcade game).

Depressed we never got a part 3 with Shin and the real Neo soundtrack. Lame.

I can't seem to find any footage or info about Super Contra for mobile. Was this a Japan only release?

What about "SD Assist: Jun Funahashi (Funahasi), Jun Chuma (Chuma)"? There's a chance they composed something for Contra Force as well.

I think we need to stop linking artists to albums based on staff roll credits, at least for older games. They're just too unreliable/incomplete.

Unless we have a complete album breakdown through liner notes or composer correspondence, we should only credit the company or sound unit for these albums (in this case, we have nothing concrete, save for Namiki on Contra ReBirth, so it would just be Konami Kukeiha Club).

Hey gang,

Anyone else notice that the "Contra Force" tracks seem like they are missing a sound channel or the percussion volume is SUPER low? I can't hear any snare hits are drum rolls, which is a real bummer since that's what helped to make the tracks so intense. Watching gameplay vids and looking up OSTs on YouTube I find 2 different versions of the tracks [with and without amplified percussion].

Trying to figure out what's right and where the other version came from. Pretty sure this wasn't released in Japan. Or am I crazy lol

I've had this soundtrack for so long but never got around to listening to all of it.

I finally went and listened to those tracks, and the drums are there, but not very audible. Konami games tend to have lowered square channel volumes to let their DPCM samples stand out, but this doesn't seem the case?

I listened to an NSF and the volumes seem comparable. Do you have links to the videos?

Track 56 (CLR2) the drums seem to sound fine to me, but the rest are, eh...

I'm just going to go ahead and assume this is exactly the same: https://vgmdb.net/album/99034

But if you'd like to take a listen: https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B07L6JXM35/

Edit: I decided to dust off my copy of the game and compare, and I do notice the percussion is slightly quieter on this soundtrack compared to both the NSF and original hardware.

Cool

Nice. Cool, just wanted to make sure I wasn't taking crazy pills.

The disc version sounds just like the digitally available via your Amazon link. Not sure why it's labeled as "NES Overseas" version since it was only released in the states XD.

I'll just grab a direct rip from the cart and have "both versions."

Appreciate the follow-up!

It's because 版 doesn't mean quite the same thing as "version." It's more like "released for" and doesn't necessarily imply the existence of other versions. You'll still see it auto translated as "version" though even in cases like this where it doesn't make sense.

Just giving a thumbs up for the GAMEBOY ENDING track, which is freaking amazing, and gets my vote for being in the TOP 10 gameboy songs ever made.

Nice to hear that the Super Contra intro is lacking the famous "What Is This Place?" line imitating famous comedian Arnold Braunschweiger.

Not being sarcastic here. I'm really glad they took that out. Does that mean D4 did their own recordings? I can't imagine Konami wouldn't rererecycle their old tapes yet again.
