I actually got ahold of a physical copy of this CD. I have a friend working on the English tracklist now.

What bugs me is that, I've edited the "Performed By" line to list all of the performers in the "Notes" field, and they aren't appearing on my screen after I make the edit. Can someone look into this?

Thanks,
Ramza

PS - see the note at the bottom of the album info regarding track time. If you want me to change individual track times to reflect their ACTUAL TIME on the disc, rather than what's in the booklet, let me know.

This happens if someone has linked artists to the album entry (through Manage Artists). Linked artists will override the default artist text fields. If a regular member modifies an artist field with linked artists, there'll be a pencil icon to indicate a pending edit; for staff it's assumed that they'll reconcile the links themselves.

Thanks for the info, I'll remember that for the future.

What are your thoughts on the track/disc time issue?

I think going with the actual times on the original media is better. After all, booklets may misprint information sometimes.

Another great obscure gem !

I'm puzzled about WHAT exactly is on the CD though. Some tracks are obviously arranged with synths and live instruments, others sound like MIDIs, while the rest sounds like PC98 tunes with enhanced beats. Honestly it sounds more like X68k than PC98 most of the time, to me ... :/

But yeah the game was only released for the PC98, and HOOT doesn't mention any MT32 versions until the second game.

So yeah, that's an odd one as far as Original Soundtrack / Arrangement classification goes, to me :s

Ok, from what I could gather from the booklet, it is said that "this CD contains 3 types of arrangements" and they are:

1. Synths + live music
2. Only Synths
3. X68000 built-in audio

So I was right about my X68k intuition. Problem is ... I don't think an X68K version of the game exists ... ._.

niki -- are there any gamerips of the game's audio to compare to versions 2 and 3? No X68K version, okay, but is the "only synths" stuff OST? Maybe this one needs to be classified as Arrange Only?

if some tracks are supposed to be x68k but the thing is unreleased, shouldn't "prototype/unused" be selected too?

Is there any indication that the X68000 tracks are actually remnants of an unfinished release or are they simply the composer using hardware they liked? We wouldn't consider Streets of Rage an unused/prototype PC-88 game just because of Koshiro's musical preferences, so I think unless there's evidence of an X68000 release the unused/prototype tag would just be speculation on our part.

I'm currently making a recording of the HOOT set ^^

And nope, those are synthesizers arranges. The closest thing to the actual ingame music would be the "X68000 audio" tracks.

edit: opening video if you want to have an idea: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KhPHIOeuNeA

Well my Japanese skills are limited to automatic translators, but I think you're right in saying this is a Koshiro-like scenario.

None of the other Amaranth games were released on X68k either.

Izuru Aki did work on some X68k games though.

I've been listening to more of this guy's work and he's AWESOME, btw. I guess none of the games he worked on were ever super popular, 'cause as a composer he deserves way more recognition in my opinion.

For those interested, I uploaded a few samples from the original PC98 version on youtube for comparison:

There are actually two more releases with Amaranth music:

Amaranth1/2 BGM全曲集 FM音源版

Amaranth2 BGM全曲集 LA&GS音源版 & 風雅ゲームミュージック名曲集1 (released 11/11/2007)

both published by FUGA System Game Station

I remember seeing them on YJA years ago for 5000 Yen each just this once. Not sure if mp3 or audio cds.

wow

Researched those a bit and could find a couple reviews (one by Wiz from FMPSG actually ). They're multiple CD releases apparently.

Interesting ...

There isn't. I was just in the process of creating the product page given the CDs containing Amaranth series material that were recently added, and had to stop in the middle. I'll finish now.

The game is definitely referred as Amaranth 1 in the other album though.

if you mean the album title, it's not a good example
"all sounds of ff i & ii" is written on albums, it doesn't mean "ff i" is added in the product field

you should unedit that

Updated some names based on the game's manual. I don't think ドーハ = Doha is actually in the first game's manual anywhere, but it's present in the fourth game's manual on the world map.
