So the US iTunes listing for this album is titled "National Geographic Panda(Japanese: Panda-san Nikki) Original Soundtrack", and that's what is in the tags of the files, of course. So what should we do about that? It's got an official English name, but it's also kinda dumb. But we must obey, right?

Right. There are all kinds of dumb names in any language (Japanese isn't an exception of course). So it stays. It is named this way because the deal was apparently made with National Geographic.

And uhh.. Everything looks fine for this entry, both JP & EN titles are there so no need to change anything.

No, I mean the official US title is exactly "National Geographic Panda(Japanese: Panda-san Nikki) Original Soundtrack", missing that space and all. Shouldn't we have that instead of the edited "National Geographic Panda Original Soundtrack" we currently have on line 3? And shouldn't it actually be the main title since it's official? It's policy to set official English titles as the default if they exist, right?

It's not. The title generally comes from the covers, not from what any store has set for the album (that also means one is not obliged to follow what let's say CDJapan has set when you're buying the things from them for example).

If the release is for Japanese territory, official English title will be usually added on the alternative title line unless the English text itself is printed somewhere on the packaging, then it will be on the display line. There are many exceptions though, especially for older albums, better say lack of consistency. On the other hand, there are many albums that don't have official English title added to alternative line so they're lacking too.
Of course, when the release is for English territories, English text is expected to be printed everywhere on the packaging so display title will be in English no doubt.

As for products field, official English title is the first one regardless, JP is in the brackets.
