[Youtube] Jazzbot Analysis Of "Soloistic" Moments Found In Video Game OST's
Hey there, just discovered this forum and I dig the wide array of discussion
I recently started a video game soundtrack analysis series called "Middy's School for Jazzbots." The video I'm linking here is the 3rd entry, and I focused in on some ridiculous guitar/synth solos that I found buried in 90's/2000's games: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXf6G23Fz5M If anybody knows of any other cool solos or "improv" sections in video game soundtracks (of any era) please feel free to suggest some! ^_^ Peace |

One of the first series I thought of was those T&E Soft golf games from the Genesis era.

Thunder Dragon 2 was notable for having variations of the same tune with different solo sections. Compare the sections from 1:05 between these two:
Fly to Live I: https://youtu.be/UZJGOf-Wjmg Fly to Live II: https://youtu.be/nm9pVeyBDMA and 1:16 between these two: Live to Fly I: https://youtu.be/pDu-kApNHJ8 Live to Fly II: https://youtu.be/w1zklyhYtVI |

Whoah this is my first time diving into their music. This stuff is super deep! That Blazeon solo goes way longer than I would've expected and the "intensity arc" is crafted really well. OOOOF that bass in Shin Megami Tensei grooves super heavy. I was considering doing an episode focused on basslines that this could be perfect for. |

These tunes both go so hard...Super metal-inspired! Honestly it's the drumming in these that gets me the most 0_o |

Just realised that Castlevania Chronicles' arranged version of Moon Fight has one too:
