Made the tracklist corrections to the JP tracklist, also updated Disc 7/8/9/10 in almost their entirety. For some reason, Disc 7 had "2" appended to every track, Disc 8 had "3" appended to every track, Disc 10 had "きらきら道中" appended to every track and Disc 10 had "きらきら道中" appended to the first 17 tracks. Probably an HTML copy/paste artifact or something.

Aye, that was my mistake. I copied the entire thing from EGG and it was formatted so the title of the game came after each track title, and I somehow missed removing the 2, 3 and きらきら道中 when cleaning it up.

This is ready to be reviewed, checked, verified, etc. I've mentioned it to phono/CHz in hopes that they can provide some insight with their knowledge of Japanese, and just verify some of my translations. Anyone else with a good working knowledge of Japanese is more than welcome to proof it, it would be more than welcome.

If you don't have a good working knowledge of Japanese, I would implore you to check for errors anyway, whether they are regular English typos, game inconsistencies (if you are more familiar with the series than I am), or track formatting errors.

People are already paying above the retail price (20,000+ yen) for this box on YJA, even though it's not sold out yet. Once it does sell out, it will be interesting to see where the second-hand price settles at.

Big thanks to dancey for translating all this. Gonna be a huge help when it arrives and I have to rip and rename all this.

I really hope they release another box with the rest of the games. The N64 ones are too good.
There were so many in game songs missing from the N64 versions.. I hope they have another box set with every track.

Hey sorry, I've been mad busy and haven't had anywhere close to enough time to spend on this as I'd like. Specifically on discs 6 & 7, which I know are the ones you want the most input on. I was waiting until I'd looked over everything until I posted something, but I don't want to keep you hanging, so I'll post what I have now on everything else, and if I ever end up reviewing the rest I'll make another post later.

----------

屋: I don't think you need to be literal with this and include the word "shop" in every title that uses it, as long as it's more or less clear from the translation that it's talking about a business. If there's a more common term for that type of business in English that doesn't literally use the word "shop" then that's fine to use IMO, I have a few suggestions for those below.

Omi-chan vs. Omitsu: JP Wikipedia says she was originally named おみっちゃん in Karakuri Douchuu and fully named as おみつ in Kieta Ougon Kiseru. おみっちゃん looks like a pretty straightforward diminutive nickname of おみつ so I'd guess the character has just been referred to in both ways in various games, and maybe the English games we got all used Omitsu so that's why our sites call her that. Doing what you've done in your translation and using both "Omi-chan" and "Omitsu" depending on what the JP calls her sounds good to me.

----------

1.02 I like "money chest" for senryoubako
1.18 Seems fine
1.52 "Gambling House" is a relatively common term in English, definitely moreso than "Gambling Shop." Maybe even "Casino" depending on what this actually is in-game.
1.53 Just "Bathhouse" is good yeah
1.57 "Sideshow" is possible, but if the attraction there really is a woman with a strange neck like the walkthrough says, then that pretty much is a freak show, right?
1.60 Subtitle there should probably be "Death by Boiling st" and not "Boiling Hell st." "Death by Boiling Hell" is really awkward phrasing to me but I can't really think of any way to improve it without adding like a million more words
1.61 Seems fine

2.05 Sounds good
2.06 Seems fine
2.20 Probably this kago: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kago. Given the game, I'm sure you're right that it's a play on リニアモーターカー, replacing "motorcar" with something more era-appropriate. If you want to keep the silly joke but make it more sensible to English speakers, I'd suggest playing off of maglev with... "Footlev Train"
2.34~6 These seem fine based on my total ignorance of this series, what's your concern with these titles? Just the romanization?
2.45 Yeah, that's a person
2.49 かめべえ looks like a name (兵衛 is a good old-fashioned name suffix), and the title makes perfect sense if that's someone's name, but there doesn't appear to be anyone by that name????

3.15 According to the Virtual Console manual, one of the gambling minigames is called コレゾウくんをさがせ, so I guess that plays when you successfully find Korezo-kun? Translation seems fine in that case
3.33 Did you leave out the "house" part of 洋館 intentionally? (I don't know why this title has a + in it either)
3.40 "Devil's Forest" sounds okay to me
3.41 This is good
3.42 Just "A House with a Problem"?
3.63 No hits for クイモンモンシティー besides this album, so I'd guess a typo?
3.69 According to JP Wikipedia, this is a Twinbee reference. I don't really have any better ideas of what to do with this besides "Tobunbee"
3.72 This apparently summons the とぶんびー from track 3.69, so probably "Bee Whistle"
3.77 This place is full of rabbits (obligatory moon rabbits reference), so maybe "Rabbirabbi Village"? That might look too much like "rabbi" though...

4.08 I think you're right
4.14 Probably referring to a rope used to tie up someone who's being arrested, cf. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hojōjutsu. Maybe less literally "Give Me the Restraints"
4.29 Sazae = https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turbo_cornutus, which seems appropriate given that video. Don't know if that's how the Lord of the Sea is actually named さざえ神 in the JP version of the game though since there aren't any hits for it.
4.30 "General Merchant" in 4.13 but "Yorozuya" here?
4.51 Is that really a period and not an ・?

5.11 There's a たち on the name so I guess this isn't just クラマンダ's theme (you fight both クラマリア and クラマンダ apparently). Translating that construction always comes off awkward in titles, something like "Clamanda and Others' Theme"? ¯\(º_o)/¯
5.13 Maybe it's just in hira to give it exotic flavor? Since it's apparently based on Spain, is there a reason you're favoring "Espania" instead of going all the way with "España"?
5.22 Seems fine
5.29 Does maybe something like "Gang of Three Appearance Scene" or "Gang of Three Entrance Scene" sound less awkward to you?
5.32 Without context of what the slate is here, this seems fine
5.34 Not a typo, 寺 frequently ends up being read でら when it's used as a suffix at the end of a temple name. This place is called ほろほろでら in the intro of Ganbare Goemon 3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRcyGkYF1cU&t=2m03s
5.44 Sure
5.48 Yeah, this is a boat. Bisumaru (ビスまる) is a character in the game, so maybe this is "The Queen Bisumaru"? Is she even involved with this boat
5.51 I'd guess daisetsuzan, but that's a good question. Is it possible that this isn't a proper place name and is just referring to a generic snowy mountain stage?
5.64 I know it's not punctuated in the Japanese, but do you think this might be better as "Imari/Miroku Battle" or "Imari & Miroku Battle"? I don't know if you fight them separately or simultaneously here

6.03 "Partners"

8.01 I don't think this is bad, but it's kind of inconsistent with how you've been translating other songs: it's the only time you've used "appears on screen" instead of just "appears," and you left off "demo."
8.19 "The Ruins of the Town of Hagure" or "The Ruined Town of Hagure" sound all right to me
8.30 There are apparently five of these guys? JP Wikipedia (おみくじ五兄弟)
8.31 Yeah, John I guess? http://dic.nicovideo.jp/a/がんばれゴエモン3%...固め〜?v=pc

9.06 Depending on what this place is, "Travel Agency" may be more natural
9.07 Since this is a desert planet, I think the name クバーサ is probably 砂漠 backwards
9.14 Apparently キックノック洞窟, ドースコイ洞窟, and タックルー洞窟 are separate caves on separate planets? http://beta2.diarynote.jp/200505110159490000/.
9.19 Given the other sports titles here, yeah probably
9.20 There are apparently four of these guys? JP Wikipedia (つじぎり)
9.23 "Outcome"
9.34 It's a forest planet so sure
9.36 It's a water planet so "Aquan" sure
9.41 Best guess: playing on スキーリフト with the words reversed?
9.43 This is an ice planet, so my guess is that スーイア is アイス backwards
9.51 Without looking too deep into this, maybe the hearts and lips on the building are just punning on the スキ (好き) part of スキ焼? I think the subtitle is correct, because it looks like after the player talks to that dude, they go out and buy sukiyaki ingredients for him? Green onions, tofu, beef, and noodles.

10.17 This is fine, but I just want to say that I really like how literally descriptive this title is lmao
10.40~1 Yeah probably just call this "Ghost Leg"
10.45 Is おお not 大 here?
10.49~50 Maybe use the same word for 対戦 in both of these titles? Assuming they're a pair of course
10.53 Trailing )

Just noticed that 2-11 is listed as 敵登場~戦闘 in the booklet, but only 戦闘 on the site, and it was not listed in the corrections. I assume 戦闘 is the correct title, and the 敵登場 part just got added by mistake since it's also on track 10.

Damn, that was an ordeal. Scans are up now. I calibrated my scanner, so these shouldn't be so dark like my previous scans.

I haven't made any progress, locally or otherwise, because it will require me to sit at my PC for 4+ hours to go through all the changes and match them up between what I proposed, what CHz proposed, and what I had locally changed but forgot to update in the thread (as some of the issues he pointed out are already fixed in my local updates).

I also won't have the time this week, or this weekend, because I'm preparing for a cutover/go-live for work where I'll be working 10-12 hour shifts the entire weekend to support it, which is the second of two that I've had in the last month and a half, which is also why I just haven't had much time.

All of the information is here, save for maybe some slightly out-of-date changes I have made locally but didn't update my post with. I assume you are just wanting to rip and/or tag your own files, and the information provided here is enough to do that. It just isn't a one-click freedb query yet.

I don't think the work I've done here or on any other entry is different from anything else, I just take the time to understand a series (for box sets), do radical lookup for things like composers, do my best with translation of a language I'm not fluent in, and ask for help from more fluent/more experienced people to proof my work. And then tie it all together in the end for a meaningful entry. All of that takes time, which is time I unfortunately haven't had of late.

It seems EGG is going to produce more of these, due to the amount of requests they've received by e-mail and phone, so until October 17 they should be up for pre-order again.

Final notes from me:

Literal Shop usage -- Yeah, I agree somewhat. I'm going to leave it as is because most of them are ok. There are probably some that are somewhat redundant but because every shop in every Goemon game you physically enter a building and it is just that person selling services, I think it makes more sense. Like, a Fortune Teller Shop is probably redundant, we know a Fortune Teller sells fortune telling services, but given that it's their shop, only their shop, and the entire building is just for them, I think it emphasizes that. Open to whatever, though. I will leave for now and if people disagree they can edit.

2.49 -- don't see 兵衛 anywhere on that track, maybe got confused with another track?
3.33 -- corrected locally prior to CHz review. Left the "House" part out intentionally
3.63 -- probably a typo but it wasn't addressed in their corrections update so maybe not?
3.77 -- good catch. Going to leave it as Rabirabi though to maintain the correct pronunciation. Alternatives could be Bunnybunny Village or just generic Rabbit or Bunny Village
4.30 -- locally corrected before review
4.51 -- yes, really a period.
5.11 -- wasn't aware of the construction but ... and Others' seems okay to me. Could also maybe use stuff like "etc.", "and co.", "and friends", or "plus others".
5.13 -- good point
5.29 -- Appearance works.
5.48 -- nice catch. The Queen Bisumaru would definitely work. "Queen" might even be a play on "HMS" ("Her Majesty's Ship")
5.51 -- Could be a generic snowy mountain stage, there is one in another game (Disc 8 I think?).
5.64 -- Separately. This guy didn't have the playthrough up for 6th floor when I was checking: http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm31373056
8.01 -- Not sure what I was thinking, or if I was even thinking, given that it's 8 discs in -_-
9.06 -- I made a concious decision to keep this not Travel Agency since that was used in Disc 6 with actual kanji more closely related to a Travel Agency.
9.07, etc -- Very good catch on the backwards words. Should I try to maintain that in English? (Ice --> Eci; Desert --> Tresed). Liftski actually works so I am definitely using that, but it only works because it's a compound word. Will maintain backwardsness in English but this should be noted somewhere.
10.45 -- good catch!
10.50 -- also good catch
10.53 -- locally corrected before review

Sorry I wasn't clear in that comment. I was trying to say that 兵衛, pronounced べえ, is a common old-timey name suffix (see 8.51 & 8.57), so かめべえ looks like it could be a name written entirely in hira. And grammatically, the title works fine if that is in fact someone's name: "Saved by Kamebei."

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like there's actually anyone with that name in the game, so I dunno...

Ah ha, found it!

https://youtu.be/k5jO3ve4tAs?list=PL...666533E2&t=743

Your ship get attacked by a karakuri and a giant turtle / tortoise comes and saves you. So this would be "Saved by the Turtle" or "Saved by the Tortoise", with the kanji of "亀".

*edit* Changed "a" to "the" because it's not the first time you've encountered said Turtle in the game.

This is interesting. I wonder if they'll correct the errata on the original print run.

Assuming they reuse the same catalog number, I wonder if some folks will gripe that the box was originally advertised as a "limited edition" (see below), where EGG then decides to print a bunch more of these.

http://web.archive.org/web/201702040.../emca0027.html

Personally I'm on board with printing to meet market demand, but I can see how other buyers might not love this.

If you get enjoyment or satisfaction out of getting something limited when someone else doesn't have it I don't even know what to say. Personally I'm happy they're issuing some more if only for the opportunity for more people to get their hands on it. Perhaps they just misjudged demand, or perhaps they just want to make more money. Either way, it's a great thing.

I can see hem correcting the print issues the original one had (tracklist stuff, mostly).

Great, I missed the 1st print so I've just ordered it, don't want to miss it again!

A nice blow to all the wannabe resellers, but I guess they can still say "This is the 1st print with the misprinted text so it's worth more.". And if they change something else like the barcode or cat. number it will be even easier to tell which is which.

If they only fix the text and you are buying a brand new sealed copy there is absolutely no way to tell, except trust the seller (and he may not even know, imagine in a couple of years everybody will be confused as they were both reprinted so close to each other).

arghhhl

Just saw that this album will be discontinued on November 25, 2020. Last chance to get it first hand.
