So, I'm still a bit fuzzy on the criteria used to accept live action stuff, and the many inconsistencies in the database don't help.

Kenji Kawai definitely has more live action works under his belt, and I also remember some other live action albums by him being rejected in the past few months. Then again we have this one that isn't really related to game/animation, I think.

This is a good entry so I wouldn't be against keeping it, and I would also argue that Kenji Kawai is pretty well known even among western audiences. If we are to follow the rules by the book this and the other one should probably be deactivated.

Any thoughts?

let's allow drama stuff
people will continue submitting that even if it's not "officially" accepted

so what's the point of continuing to discuss whether it must or not be accepted, just allow and that's all
however, not sure sentai shit should be allowed

if this has no connection to anime, manga or game, I vote that it should be not accepted.

By that logic, we would have to delete a number of albums by anime/game composers that aren't related to game/anime.

The practical point here is that people who use this website, often use it to research game and anime music composers. Thus it's in everyone's best interest to provide access to information on those composers' entire published discography.

I just did this now, in fact. I like Kawai. And I probably wouldn't have known about this album without this entry because I don't go looking specifically for Japanese TV soundtracks.

Good thing I have VGMdb!

Same here. If this means we have to delete some other albums, then be it.

The point here is that Kawai isn't mainly an anime/game composer, and that's the criteria that is being used when approving these kind of entries.
The only exception to this rule (afaik) is Joe Hisaishi.

This doesn't obviously apply to composers who work mainly in the fields we cover, and then do an occasional soundtrack or two for live action stuff.

well then. I demand that this site changes name to Discogs V.2

What is the idea of Discogs? Pretty much the same in here with accepting these issues.

This question comes up from time to time, with some desire towards coming up with a standard guideline to follow, but I've never been able to pose one that wouldn't restrict our flexibility. By the same token, I don't want to be as flexible as Discogs. My philosophy goes something like this:
  1. For solid game/anime composers or arrangers, you can submit "works" albums that are outside our scope if you think they are of interest.
  2. To prevent clutter on the artist pages, be mindful of the ratio of in-scope to out-of-scope albums. We don't want someone with 3 VGM credits to have 12 works albums. I don't have an exact number to give for a ratio, but I hope that some common sense is used.
  3. The standard is much higher for performers. I don't really want solo albums to be submitted for a vocalist that was on a few animes. (Plus, vocal albums are a lot of work for staff to fix if they aren't done carefully.) You pretty much need to be game-related on the level of I've Sound to merit some works albums.
  4. Doujin circles who release albums at Comiket are generally an exception to these guidelines; we are much more lenient there. However, artists who release albums at M3 are not. We cover comiket fairly closely, but we only cover game/anime music at M3.
  5. If you submit a works album and do a poor job (incomplete or wrong information), staff is free to reject the album at their discretion. I don't want to waste limited time on something that isn't our focus.

For Kenji Kawai, I see a sea of green on his artist page, so I wouldn't reject a few albums like this.

those guidelines should be in everyone's computer in case of doubts.
I saved your guidelines in a txt file for future reference.
