Ah, yeah i have no idea on how to make that thing work. LOL But i did get other sounds to play and recognized a few other things.

More than one sound from Mega Man 7 is in there. The OB Brass in there is used in it, and that pluck sound heard in the game is from there. It is also the origin of other sounds from Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, such as the patch called FM Bass, all that alongside the drums coming from it. I might have even found the Finger Bass used in Super Street Fighter II on the SNES(used only in Cammy's theme)

I also found that the Roland D-10 is where they sampled the drums from for Street Fighter II on the SNES, the CPS1 ports.
http://synthmania.com/Roland%20D-10/...rums%20Set.mp3

The Roland U-110 is where they sampled the Drums from in Final Fight 2 and possibly the crappy port of Final Fight 1. It was also used in the U-220. The slap bass from Final Fight 2 was sampled from the Slap-PopBass preset in the Emu Proteus/1.

The Korg M1 SlapBass, i completely forgot to mention, was also used in Mega Man X2. It just doesn't use the Up Slap variation so it is a little more difficult to detect. The same soundboard's Piano16' was used in Super Adventure Island. I am trying to figure out where that Synth Brass sound from early/mid 90's capcom SNES games comes from(like Mega Man X) It almost sounds like a Roland D-50 Synth Brass, but i don't think i quite heard the exact sound. Needless to say i love D-50 synth brass sound :P. D-50 in general just has sounds with a lot of personality in general IMO.
Alongside that, i am still trying to hunt down the Slap Bass used in X-Men SNES as well as the Slam Master arcade games(which have the same one, to those of you unaware) The Organ from SNES X-Men/COTA i am trying to decide if i have found it, it seems to just be a generic Jazz/Perc Organ that could have been from anything.
I am also still trying to find you that SFA2/X-Men vs SF synth bass. I know i found it some time ago while looking this stuff up early on, but i haven't really been able to come across it again.

Final Fight 2 Kick as well as Final Fight 1 SNES and Final Fight 2 Toms.

Final Fight 2 Slap Bass.

Super Adventure Island Piano
http://synthmania.com/Korg%20M1/Audi...Piano16%27.mp3

EDIT: I also seem to remember people mentioning a Donkey Kong Country game using the Metal Hit from the Korg M1 but then noticing it sounds nothing like it. That is because it was not the Metal Hit but the Pop preset.

Nice finds! I just went back though a collection of R-8 mkII samples I got off the net at some point and have decided that the TR-909 snare in SSF2 (used in Zangief's theme) is probably from that (or more likely, from the original R-8 expansion card; the mkII included lots of sounds sourced from the expansion cards internally).

I'm still having trouble sourcing the bass drum and other snare from SSF2. If I could at least find the bass drum, I think I'd have all the samples necessary to try and remake Akuma's theme with high quality source samples.

BTW, the Heavy.EG 1. I don't think that is the guitar used in games like SSF2 and Darkstalkers, etc. I think that comes from something else. Checking out the patch myself, that sounds far more like the Heavy Guitar used in Mega Man X2(and X3). The one from those two games(DS and SSF2) has a lot more grit and grunge. The Heavy EG from The U-110 sound a tad cleaner IMO. It is most likely a Roland sample as it is very similar, but i don't think it is from the U-110.

EDIT. NVM that, it's actually the Heavy.EG 2 with the chorus effect. So were both somewhat right. LOL

Hey, this is awesome. Very neat idea/experiment. Would like to see this put out and see what people thing.

Where are you getting the U-110 samples as well as possible others? It seems like you have samples from other soundcards around as well as access to stuff synthmania does not have and such.

EDIT: Also, i am now starting to think the synth brass featured in several capcom SNES games may be from Korg. Very possibly from an M1 soundcard and one synthmania does not have. Cause it kind of sounds like a variation of the M1's Brass ensemble and i heard other synth brass sounds from extension cards that sound very very close to it. It sounds so trademark SNES to me that i am curious to know what it sounded like from its original source when not chopped up for the SNES. Example below.
http://synthmania.com/Korg%20MSC-12S...voices%203.mp3
Also, speaking of th M1, that is where the sax used in U.N. Squardon/Area 88 SNES comes from. I'm pretty sure it also has the Rock Lead1, the missing sample from the S50.

I actually own a U-220. Got one for pretty cheap off eBay a few years ago. In addition to that, many (but not all) of the samples on the U-220 exist with the S-50 sampler library, so with the software we talked about earlier, those can be converted and used.

you should post the tracks or give more detail about the tracks. I can never find them because the track info you always give is a little strange and vague. Can you link from youtube so we can hear?

Sorry, that's just it -- I don't know where exactly they're used, I just know the tracks from listening to the samples (like our old method with Silent Hill 2). That's why the names aren't very descriptive. Once the MusyX sequence format can be converted/played back, I'll be sure to update it (and this list as well).

The tracks I recognize will have the title above the BGM title (like dd03_bgm). This is that track:

peronmls, this IS a database, why not make good use of it?
http://vgmdb.net/album/1227

The reason I used the Japanese titles in the case of Resident Evil 0 is because that is what's actually printed, and that's what I've been doing for everything else (where possible anyway). Anything else would be fan-made translations/titles and not official. Same thing would have happened if there were only, say, Arabic titles on the covers. Anything else might lead to confusion...

If you were to read (and bare with me on this example) the Bible, would you rather read the first one and have it accurately translated by a good translator (or multiple good translators rather) and judge it for yourself, or would you read a modern version, which may have several inaccuracies transferred through all the various revisions of it? With so many automated translators existing nowadays, I really think it shouldn't be much of a hassle to translate a tiny bit of Japanese into English.

ugh, yeeeaah?

it makes it easier to search when you post the English titles or put a description where it plays. That's all I'm saying. Do what you want.

Also the Bible is like the game "Phone". It's been translated multiple times. Game titles have not so that is not a good example.

Also what happened to this format???

Track:
Sample Library:
Sample Name:
Time of Sample:

I didn't mean to come of as combative, peronmls. In my opinion, English titles doesn't always make it easier. Multiple times I've had to hunt down the album/game in question and guess which track the user has been referring to because they've made their own translations of the titles, which haven't been common or close to other English translations (whether those are worse or not) whatsoever.

Yeah, perhaps the Bible wasn't a good example, but I did say "bare with me" (for whatever that was worth).

Also, I never used that format in this thread as far as I can remember... ? Yes we use it on SHH, but it occupies a lot of vertical space for just one sample. I've had the format that most of us use in this thread specified in the first post since the creation of the thread and that's what I've essentially always used myself. For RE0 I used a different format because I don't know the titles for each BGM yet, and I figured it might have been better for the moment. I said I will update it once I know though... Besides, you don't follow the format specified in the first post, NOR the one you just posted yourself, so I don't understand why it's such a big problem if I bend the rules once or twice.

You're not being combative, dude. lol. It's not a big problem. It was a just a suggestion. Most of the time I can't do a simple YouTube search to hear a few seconds of the sample in a track. Most JAP track names don't show up on YouTube and I'm interested in all finding in all games, even the ones I haven't played. Also I do follow the format you made on SHH here and I have gotten lazy a few times and just not post it that way, admittedly. I didn't understand the format you were doing here so I just didn't do it that way. It's no big deal. Continue what you were doing.

Not too sure if this was mentioned already, but Metal Gear Solid uses the same Spectrasonics sample library as Chrono Cross in Rexes Lair

While listening through Crash Bandicoot I recognized a sample from the Fairlight synth library. I think many of you recognize this one from Terminator 2 as well. Not sure where exactly Josh took the sample from, but...

Fairlight sample ~ Crash Bandicoot - Pinstripe

Also:

Ace Combat 3
  • "122 NEWS AT TEN-A#" from "Zero-G: Cuckooland 'ghost in the machine'" was used in 2.01 "Electrosphere"

Klonoa: Door to Phantomile
  • "NOT HOUSE2" from "Zero-G: Cuckooland 'unhinged'" was used in 1.29 "JOKER'S MOVE"

Can somebody identify the sounds from Terranigma (SNES, 1996)?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ug5Vb5cFi9o

The same uncompressed sounds can be heard in Astal (Sega Saturn, 1995):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnS3...4EBFC5C86993AE

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktd_...993AE&index=13
(this track reminds me a lot of "Final Fantasy 8" - so maybe a Roland SC88?)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHHfdeFZRoU

Astal also shares some sounds with Resident Evil 1:

RE1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65Ox2nxvWDE (Bells/Chimes)

Astal: https://www.youtube.com/watch?featur...5C86993AE#t=60

https://www.youtube.com/watch?featur..._Bb8JA2pg#t=13
(Strange wailing flute thing)

Astal:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?list=P...etailpage#t=12

One song in Terranigma (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIFD...CEDD0&index=15) shares big similarities with "Do you love me?" from Neon Genesis Evangelion:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMPRMKUQLM0

My guess is a Roland JV-80 or JD-990?

RE1 save room sound you are hearing is a generic string/violin instrument. in RE:RE it's some kind of synth.

The rest I have no clue.

I thought I was never going to find that "zoom" sample... At the same time I'm surprised no one has documented it before seeing as Classical Choir is (or "was", I guess I should say) such a commonly used library.

Maybe it's a sforzando or staccato patch.
