Disney's Music Trivia:

• Edward Plumb, Frederick Stark, and Charles Wolcott served as orchestrators, while Hal Rees, a percussionist and composer who was at that time the head of the sound effects department, was credited with co-composing the "Clock Theme" with Harline

• First feature animation from Walt Disney to win the Academy Award for Best Original Score and Best Original Song ("When You Wish Upon a Star")

• The eighty-seven-minute film is composed of some 106 musical sequences. Harline conducted the orchestra for many of the recording sessions, he also selected the singers for the choir and led rehearsals for the forty-voice group

• The appearance of the Blue Fairy was accompanied by a sound effect that evokes an otherworldly feeling. This was done by manipulating the tones and pitches of an electric organ called the Novachord.
In fact, Pinocchio was the second film to use a Novachord in its soundtrack, after Gone With the Wind

• It was Walt Disney's suggestion to use "vibra harps" (vibraphones) and "soft temple blocks" for the undersea cues, like heard in "Deep Ripples"

• "Turn on the Old Music Box" was supposed to be a song with lyrics written, but only the melody appears in the film in some sequences

• Several other songs were written for Pinocchio, but they were not used. They are "No Strings", which would serve as introduction to "I've Got No Strings"; "Rolling Along to Pleasure Island", which was replaced by an instrumental track;
"As I Was Say'n to the Duchess", another song for Honest John; as well as "Figaro and Cleo" for the relationship between Figaro, Cleo and Pinocchio

• Three promotional songs were written at the request of publisher Irving Berlin, Inc. for use in the film's promotional campaign: "Jiminy Cricket", "Honest John" and "Monstro the Whale". While none of these appear in the film, instrumental segments of
"Honest John" and "Monstro the Whale" appear on the soundtrack as listed in the official booklet's cue sheets
