Soulsborne series, consisting of Dark Souls 1, 2, 3, and Bloodborne, doesn't have music for the most part in that when you're just walking around exploring the world there is no music playing but there is music during boss fights. Soulsborne games are hugely successful with very minimal music, but there are no games that I can think of that has no music at all.

On the topic of games without soundtracks, well, I'm not completely sure about it (since there is an official page mentioning a tracklist)… but I want to say Dead Nation. The few pages I've found on my own hint that an official release was planned, but it never actually happened. I've even tried to send an e-mail to the address found on that website, but I've never received a reply.
On the topic of games without music, there are a few… technically speaking… but that depends on how broad one's definition of game is: I'm mostly talking about text-based games (made in Flash, Ren'Py, or JavaScript). |

Most games didn't have music until around the mid-80s; before then sound channels were reserved for sound effects only. And even when music started becoming standard there were still plenty of games that couldn't have music and sound effects enabled at the same time.

I don't think Harlequin has appeared in any album.

Boktai DS (aka "Lunar Knights" in Western Territories) is one as well.

Obviously the original Alone in the Dark trilogy + The New Nightmare. Of course you can play all tracks from the game CD (for the 1st three games at least), but a real soundtrack boxset would be nice. It should include the original floppy MIDI version of AitD1 and 2 as well as the re-made CD version.

But TMNTIV already got a soundtrack release (though rather flawed).

Harlequin by Barry Leitch of Top Gear fame is real good. It's one of the few Amiga games I played recently on real hardware.

Some of my favorite soundtracks that unfortunately haven't gotten OST releases or full composer/track title breakdowns:
And so on. I'd be here all day listing others I can think of! Unfortunately ones for licensed IPs are even less likely due to licensing costs. |
