Default Looking for recommendations...

Hi all,

I just joined, I'm running out of ideas for music to try. My favorite albums are:

Innovative:
Akira Yamaoka - iFUTURELIST
Cho Aniki Show II
JumpingFlash! 2 OST

Schmup:
Dodonpachi DAI-OU-JOU & ESPGALUDA ~Perfect remix
Gradius V
Mahou Shoujou Ai 2 ''transformation'' FULL ARRANGE ALBUM
Lost Technology Plus

Action/Adventure:
Akumajo Dracula Curse of Darkness
Castlevania OST

Rhythm:
Space Channel 5 Part 2 Chu

The innovative section is probably my favorite, I have a lot of RPG albums but I find there's a lot of tracks I'm not so keen on along with the tracks I like. Any suggestions would be warmly appreciated.

Thanks everyone.

If you don't mind older, more synthesized music, check out Magi-Nation. The gameplay left a bit to be desired, but the music was well done. Unfortunately, there was never a release of the soundtrack.

Here's one track.

Thanks for the suggestion, it sounds like a great source for a remix but it`s a little too primitive for me to enjoy in in its current form, thanks anyway.

Based on your categories and albums mentioned, try giving these a listen:

All Koji Hayama albums since he likes to incorporate little voice samples and you seem to dig that style.

For schmup go with Ibara and Under Defeat

And other Sega stuff like Radio DC or Sonic Vocal Trax

OK, I don't know any of those, I'll find out more this evening when I get back from work. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll post back when I've had a chance to listen to them.

Well definitely look at the Halo soundtracks. The first two are synthesized but the quality is very much on the side of realistic. The third soundtrack is all orchestra. The only bad thing is that in the Halo 2 and 3 soundtracks there are some actual songs. They are all awful. (Unless you actually like Incubus and Breaking Benjamin.)

If you enjoyed Gradius V, then I would recommend most anything by Hitoshi Sakimoto. I have been consistently impressed with his work.

That's a good suggestion, thanks. I think I'll probably like it if its in the same vein. I've bookmarked this thread to remind me to post back. Thanks everyone.

ANIKIIIH!? Yeah, Hayama is crazy. Slightly Dark released The Ultimate, Invincible, Most Galactically Powerful Man a few years back, and that's a pretty awesome soundtrack. He also did Game Music is Dead and three mixes from the new Smash Bros (including the Mario Land pyramid!). I haven't heard all his albums though...

You like Castlevania, don't you? Don't know how much you listened to, but there's plenty of that music to go around. Michiru Yamane also did Symphony of the Night and the latest Gameboy ones, but the Dracula X Chronicles soundtrack is also done in her style (though not by her). The Castlevania Judgment soundtrack, while not official (at least not yet...) is also worth a listen.

Oh yeah, check out Cave Story. Just because it's that awesome.

Just try checking out more albums from the artists that did some of your favs. Like Manabu Namiki and Michiru Yamane, as well as the ones others have suggested.

As for another random suggestion? Maybe this one:

It's not a very meaty or powerful soundtrack, but I like it.

Thanks Kaleb, you're right, after I read the replies I figured out that would be a good way to do it. With the holidays coming up I'll have a little time to do some searching around. Thanks for the help.
