Default TECD-35446~7: Nintendo All Star! Dairantou Smash Brothers Original Soundtrack

The Artists list shows all the composers, but who actually arranged them onto the game? Was it the original composers themselves or was it done by other people?

MobyGames only lists Hirokazu Ando, so I'm inclined to believe he was the only one to have done that.

Yeah, it's just Ando for all the music (arrangements and original compositions) in Super Smash Bros.

I take it, then, that Shinji Yoshimura made the club mixes?

Well, if BGM is background music, then FGM could be foreground music - however I'm not really sure what the difference should be?!

This terminology doesn't look like it's particularly widespread, but "FGM" appears to be a way that HAL Laboratory refers to sound effects. Kirby's Dream Land 2's sound test has BGM for music and FGM for sound effects, and apparently the debug sound test in Super Smash Bros. Melee refers to FGM too.

I guess it makes sense that sound effects would be "foreground," as they're played over the background music? Especially in the NES and GB games, where they take channels away from the BGM.

Even though 任天堂 is the proper kanji for Nintendo, I don't see it used anywhere here. Instead I see the kana for it, ニンテンドウ. Should we replace the kanji in the title with the kana seen on the artwork, or is there a policy for this kind of thing?

Also, we have no kanji for Shinji Yoshimura? I'm wondering if it's listed in the booklet or something.

I've been wondering that for some time, too. Could somebody please check? I'd check if my copy was opened, but it isn't, and I'd like to keep it sealed.

Go ahead, the general policy is to use whatever is printed (seems only ニンテンドウ is used in this case), unless you want extra Japanese in the fourth line to help searches (not really needed here).

As for Shinji Yoshimura, his other Nintento works don't give kanji so I doubt it.

I don't mind me some Hirokazu Ando, but some of his tracks here are just.. odd sounding. Like they were run through automation or something. The ones that don't sound quite as bad leave a lot to be desired. The mix in Meta Cystal is awful. And the club mixes are just annoying, excessive and unnecessary. The only real redeeming part is the Nintendo arrangements, which were unprecedented for the time and are still fun and nostalgia evoking.

Are the composition credits in the notes here specified in the booklet? If our information is correct on this CD, the Donkey Kong "Hammer BGM" portion of track 10 is by Yukio Kaneoka, not Hirokazu Tanaka.

I'm fairly sure that's correct. Apparently the game uses Tanaka's sound driver though.

At last.. I found and added full credits (cover + text). Looks like Shinji's kanji name is not in these credits either. But speaking of Shinji Yoshimura; I can't tell what the little blurb after his name in the credits cover says (looks like it says "shin" or something...), so if anyone figures that out, please feel free to update the notes.

dissident93: I think it would be preferred if the staff credits from the booklet was intact in the notes. If you want add credit to Yukio Kaneoka, can you do that in another section of the notes and perhaps explain why he is credited? No harm, just my 2 cents

Was considering buying this. Is it complete and are there any issues with the recordings?

I stumbled accross a Dairantou Smash Brothers metal blade which looks like this CD. Anyone knows if this was originally part of the set or how it could be obtained? (obi gives no hint about it)

It's a plate (プレート) not a blade (ブレード). It's not mentioned on the obi we have a scan for but it is mentioned on what I assume is the first print obi here: https://kqyv.lwlkitsen.top/index.php...ucts_id=151092
