Could someone help me on how to use the database with CUETools 2.15? I get the error "database access error: The remote name could not be resolved: 'http'" always, when I put "http://vgmdb.net:80/cddb/en" as CTDB server and as Freedb server.

"21/17 freedb"

And of course not a single freaking one of them works.

That means 21 lookups for the first disc and 17 lookups for the second disc.

You don't need to retrieve a sever list, just add vgmdb as a server manually (as you have already done) and save your settings. Select all the tracks for a disc, right click Tagging -> Get tags from freedb

Thanks, now it seems to work, sort of. While the tracklist is correct, a completely different artist, album, year and genre is shown.
Also, while default works, "/cddb/ja/" does not. Do you know why?

I'm sure this has been answered before, but I can't find it.

I notice when an album has multiple artists it just throws them all in the artist field instead of separating them per track. Is that a limitation of cddb? or just something that's too much work to implement properly? Not that big of a deal it's mostly just laziness on my part to fill it on a per track basis.

(off-topic: I haven't been on here in years but I hope you're all doing well and in good health)

When you edit tracklists you'll note that there's simply no way to credit artists per track here on VGMdb so that limitation extends to cddb accesses. So far we put the per track credits (where available) into the notes below the tracklists.

I was tagging METAL GEAR RISING REVENGEANCE Original Soundtrack (KJP-0015) and "Konami Kukeiha Club" comes up as "Konami Kureha Club". Where is that data being pulled from if not the "Composed by" field?

The incorrect term seems to be sourced from the calendar section: https://vgmdb.net/db/calendar.php?year=2013&month=2

freedb pulls in the Composer field as-is, it doesn't resolve linked artists. The Composer field said "Kureha" but someone linked it so it shows up as normal on the page. I fixed it on the composer field.

I am trying to get XLD to work with this, but it doesn't work if I use the cddb/ja one, the cddb/en one works fine. Do I need some settings to make it work?

Is there any way to get the TOC information from the database?
I'm interested in getting the track lenghts in sectors/frames for a couple of discs right now. MusicBrainz doesn't have the release I'm looking for, let alone it's toc, and I just found out that freeDB has a shutdown notice and it's web query interface seems to stall forever. Strangely enough, tools like CUETools seem to still be getting freedb results.

Whatever is happening there, is there any way to get that kind of information from the VGMdb cddb?

How do albums get added to this database. I'm using EAC specifically.

If the albums is already present in from the webpage, but not pulling up through EAC cddb call, it means there is no unique disc identifier link yet established for the album? There is no way to force it to grab the album in EAC?

IIRC if the album isn't showing up then both the disc attached to the album has no Disc ID attached and the track times aren't accurate enough for time-based detection. That or maybe you have a different release/press with different times.

Which album is having the issue?

You should try to get the actual track times and replace the ones currently on the album. Using one of the methods in this thread should work: https://vgmdb.net/forums/showthread.php?t=9284

Once the correct times are in it should work.

I don't have any issue with updating that, but want to make sure I do it right.

Taking track 1 as an example. Foobar2000 displays it as 1:29. But when I look at the details, it shows as:
Duration : 1:28.907 (3 920 784 samples)

However when I put the disc in EAC, I get 1:30.68.

So which time is the correct to use for CDDB lookup compatibility? EAC's display? And would that be 1:30 or 1:31?

Always use EAC times. Put the disc in, go Database --> Export CD Information to --> Clipboard, then edit the tracklist, change the drop down to "Transfer length only", paste the contents into the tracklist box, and remove the first two lines so it's one track per line.

I have another question. I tried to update the track times for this Animex re-issue:

https://vgmdb.net/album/47767

and instead is applying the track listing to the original Vinyl listing. Which is then giving me the Vinyl Catalog ID. And you can see that the vinyl has 2x CDDB retrievals. Is this more a limitation of the database on your end? Can it ignore vinyl entries?

This is because the tracklist on the child reprint (the CD) is not really a child, it's just the parent tracklist and it's being shared by the child. To resolve:

- "Add" a tracklist to the child entry, so that it is no longer linked. You'll get the big yellow "Adding a tracklist will unlink all parent tracklists" banner telling you this will happen. That will then give it it's own unique tracklist. Make sure you add all the tracklists that the parent has that the child does not, not just the ones you need.

You should also remove the track times from the parent release as generally speaking, vinyl track times are not typically known unless printed and we do not want to guess the times. The times are printed on this release on the back watermarked cover so you can use those times for the Vinyl release and note that they do differ from the CD version.
