Nope, it was a different site with talks about all the composers. I'm pretty sure I remember it being in Japanese.

Ah.

I checked Prime Blue's old posts, and one of them linked to a Japanese sound team interview: http://www.nintendo.co.jp/nom/0301/sound/index.html. Minegishi is only mentioned in a photo caption, though, so I'm not sure that's the one you're thinking of.

Yeah, that's the one! I thought it mentioned something about Minegishi, but it was probably the Zelda Universe link I was thinking of all along. Dang faulty memory, oh well. Still some great information there!

Say that Minegishi is responsible for the music event, remains a speculation, in the interview do not mention anything more than that is in charge of sound beside to Masafumi Watanabe and Takahiro Kawamura, who are responsible for the sound effect programming, issue that not said in the interview but if in the credits of the game.

Another at charge of the effect sound programming is Taiju Suzuki, that is not even mentioned in the interview but if in the credits of the game.

In the interview surprisingly gets above Minegishi at Kawamura.

If we see the picture, the only conclusion we could draw is that Minegishi formed part of that team, which is recording the sound effects of a scene, or at least collaborated with them.

Can not say that Minegishi information about their work in this game is scarce, there is simply nothing to confirm that has done ​​the music event of the game.

Much of the music event, sounds like Nagata, indeed much is based on cuts of other songs composed by him.

Belated, and just because I'm thinking about Nintendo composer roles a lot at the moment, but I think what is meant by synchronizing music isn't necessarily cutscenes (though could be) but more to do with the action during battles and how the music changes as the player strikes the enemy or performs some action. I conclude that any of the songs where this is prevalent are likely Minegishi's work, which is a number of the battle songs (but not all of them - some like Gohdan I would bet my life on being Wakai ~ I think he did most of them to be honest.) Phantom Ganon is the standout example, I think. It stinks of Minegishi, even without the music<->battle synchronisation. Mini Boss too, as was already stated by Guitarist500.

I also have a question about "Game Demo (NINTENDO SPACEWORLD 2001)" which isn't on the soundtrack CD. It was also used as the menu theme for the GCN Zelda Collector's Edition. Anyone have any idea who arranged that?

I know you know quite a bit about music and have a good ear, but I think "Phantom Ganon" is Wakai. The general harmony makes me think it's him and those fast piano and organ runs remind me of "Gohdan", which I agree is so Wakai (and it is a crime the full track isn't on this album -- there are three versions and only the first is presented in its entirety with half each of the other two making the rest of the track, and even the first is different on the album, replacing an electric piano counter-melody in the game with a different harpsichord part starting at about 31 seconds). What do you think seems like Minegishi about it? The only thing I feel strongly about being his is the mini boss theme, which I also thought even before seeing anyone else did too. I initially felt "Battle" could have been him, but I recall hearing similarities in other things I was more certain were Wakai, even on other soundtracks, that made me change my mind, but I don't remember what anymore.

For what it's worth, I think Wakai did "Rescuing Aryll" numbers 4 and 5, which Guitarist500 had attributed to Nagata.

It could be Wakai as there are bits in it that remind me of him too. I listen to other Minegishi battle themes for reference (Darknut in Twilight Princess is a good example), and a lot of them tend to have prominent snare rolls and piano basslines. But the most standout thing is the harmonies, the stacked 4ths/quartals are something he does a lot ~ noticed this in other Twilight Princess songs and Spirit Tracks as well, and even in the most well-known example of his main boss theme for Majora's Mask. Those string chords! Granted Wakai also does this, most noticeably in Star Fox 64, but on Wind Waker at least Wakai's other songs seem to me to be a bit more sparsely arranged, less layers, and more quirky/noodly sounding somehow. You could be right though, it's a just a hunch and sadly that may be all it ever will be it's difficult to see what else Minegishi contributed to the score, in any case (2nd Maritime Battle and Ganondorf Battle sound like him to me too.)

I agree about those Aryll tracks too ~ not Nagata imo, but one of the other two.

Strange, this album is OoP, yet Amazon.co.jp says that, not only is it in stock, but that there's more on the way. Is it possible they unknowingly have bootleg copies or something?

I really doubt Amazon would ever sell you bootlegs, they're most likely legit.

As a side note, while this one is definitely OOP and they must have some copies left from the last printing, some sites like CDJapan will say something is OOP even when it's not. It happens all the time even with very new albums and it just means they're not willing to stock it anymore.

Sorry for bumping this, but the notes lead us to go in there to find composer/arranger informations. But the discussions go everywhere and it's hard to actually pinpoint what's official or unofficial information and I'd be extremely grateful if someone could do a summary of the credits, at least for the officially confirmed tracks.

The only official credits we have right now are :

We don't have any official credit for Toru Minegishi.

Sources :
We also know a few other things thanks to some interviews (I don't know if all of the sources for these are findable nowadays) :
  • Kenta Nagata : he was the main composer
  • Hajime Wakai : he did a lot of battle themes for the game
  • Toru Minegishi : he did some cutscene music

For all the other songs, we can only guess thanks to what we already know and each composer's style.

I'm updating the notes with the official credits we know.

I think much of that information comes from this Nintendo Online Magazine interview with Kondo, Nagata, Wakai, Eiji Aonuma and Masafumi Kawamura that was conducted around the game's release (my knowledge of Japanese is limited, so I don't feel confident trying to dig up some more info from there myself). As for Minegishi, he mentioned a little bit about his work on Wind Waker on this promotional Twilight Princess interview that appeared on Nintendo Power (which is probably where his "cutscene" work comes from).

I have some kinda big news for the composer breakdown of The Wind Waker !

First of all, if Google Translate is right (which is of course not sure at all), Nagata seems to confirm in the interview RBM95 linked on the post above that Kondo did the music for the opening cutscene (track 1-03: The Legendary Hero).

There's a lot of tracks missing, but many of the tracks I was able to find have either .n, .w, .g or .k at the end of them. I think that as that seems to be the case for Super Mario 3D World, it is indicative of who their composer in charge is.

Other Nintendo games also have this naming convention:
.n seems to be for Nagata and is also found in some of New Super Mario Bros. Wii's music files, a game for which he did compose some music.
.w seems to be for Wakai and is also found in some of Pikmin 2's and 3's music files, games for which he did compose some music.
.g seems to be for Minegishi and is also found in some of Super Mario 3D World's and Wii Fit's music files, games for which he did compose some music.
.k seems to be for Kondo and is also found in one of the two themes he did for Super Mario 3D World.

So, the very incomplete composer and/or arranger breakdown could be :
.n = Kenta Nagata: 1.01, 1.20, 2.57 (+ 1.31, 1.38, 2.26, 2.59 as officialy confirmed)

You can see that the two (or three if you count "The Legendary Hero") official credits that we have and for which I was able to find their matching file ("Title" and "Boss Clear Fanfare") seem to confirm this theory.

So, in the end, we have very few informations on Nagata's role (sadly) but some very interesting ones for Wakai, Minegishi and Kondo !
It seems Wakai did some event/cutscene musics and not only battle themes (if it wasn't already obvious with some of these music's style).
Minegishi indeed seems to have made cutscene musics.
And Kondo seems to have made a lot more music than I was thinking !

Keep in mind that all of this isn't official by any means.

EDIT : in the interview linked, Wakai also talks about how the music for Gohdan's fight changes depending on how much of his hand are down. It could be taken as confirmation that he did this theme.
Nagata also talks about how Outset Island's music features Aryll's theme only when she is on the island (when she's captured, this phrase does not play). It also could be taken as confirmation that this is one of his compositions.

I believe Nagata mentions in the interview that he used music from the previous Zelda titles as a way to "service" fans, so maybe he made those arrangements? I personally have the feeling that Nagata, as main composer, might have also made most (if not all) of the field and dungeon music (very similar instrumentation across the board), but unfortunately there is no way to clarify this other that what we know or can infer.

Not trying to disprove this theory or anything, but I just thought it was interesting to point out.

I believe Nagata mentions in the interview that he used music from the previous Zelda titles as a way to "service" fans, so maybe he made those arrangements? I personally have the feeling that Nagata, as main composer, might have also made most (if not all) of the field and dungeon music (very similar instrumentation across the board), but unfortunately there is no way to clarify this other that what we know or can infer.

I feel stupid, I never noticed that "Jabun" was an arrangement of "Jabu-Jabu's Belly" !

But yes, it could technically be possible that Kondo would be credited only for his old compositions but I think he was most likely responsible of these arrangements.
1.67 "Jabun" uses the exact same percussions than its original OoT version.
2.14 is a brand new music and sounds very "OoT-esque" (so Kondo is probably its composer and arranger) and giving the naming convention it shares with 2.15-17, it would be weird if these arrangements weren't his work. I could see Minegishi arranging 2.15 and 2.16, but Kondo is very well capable of doing this style of music if he indeed has composed 1.17.
And 2.17 sounds a lot like Kondo's instrumentation to me (especially when the cellos start playing).
Also, if Kondo composed 1.03, that makes 2.32 a full arrangement of a theme he composed, but this theme has .g at its end (and not .k). It would be strange to sometimes credit Kondo for "only composition" credits and sometimes not.
And Kondo re-arranged of lot of his own tracks in games for which he composed music (a contemporary example would be Super Mario Sunshine).

And the Nagata quote of doing fan-service with including old Zelda tunes could reference tracks such as 1.04, 1.56, 1.57, that feature Kokiri Forest for the first 3, Saria's Song for the 3rd and Zelda's Theme (+ a small cue of the Overworld Theme from TLoZ) for the last.

But of course, this is just speculation in the end !

I would say no, because they're still speculative, however convincing they may be. Barring official confirmation either from Nintendo or the composers themselves, I'd leave them out of the notes and keep them in the discussion here.

I'd like to suggest two changes for the localized tracklist:

1-33 The Second Maritime Battle → Maritime Battle - Part 2
I don't know if there is any place in the game, where track 32 and 33 are playing one after another (as part 1 and 2 of one battle or something), but I think to call this "Second Maritime Battle" isn't any closer to a properly localized naming than the literal translation. It depends on the enemy which theme is played, not the time/order you encounter them.

2-20 Fairy Spring → Fairy Fountain
This name can be read on a sign in WW according to the Zelda Wiki (https://zelda.gamepedia.com/Great_Fairy_Fountain)

If no one disputes these suggested changes, I will work them into this tracklist and the one for the Sound Selection (NTDT-17288) in a week or so.

There is another change I'd like to suggest; for track 1-29, I think "Zunari's Store" is not a very correct name, and I'm not sure where does it originate from.

While there is a character named Zunari in The Wind Waker, his "store" is just a stall on the streets of Windfall Island and does not play any special music when you are speaking to him. The track actually plays on the island's Chu Jelly Juice Shop, whose owner is named Doc Bandam. Therefore, "Zunari's Store" is kinda misleading and should probably be replaced.

I would suggest "Potion Shop" as a localized title for that, the JP title is a bit generic and isn't referring specifically to the Windfall Island store (there's also Hollo's Forest Potion Shop with the same music)

Okay, as you may already guessed, I originally came here from the Sound Selection of the WW OST and just wanted to post my suggestions here with the goal of consistency throughout the database on my mind (I even failed to change the track numbers, I've corrected them in my initial message now).
Now that the discussion has started, I've had a closer look at the localized tracklist of the OST. I looked up some things on YT and the game itself and would like to sum up the bunch of new and already made suggestions for further discussion:

1-06
This seems to be a tricky one. I think the literal translation would be something like "Old Man's House" as it currently says on the "English" tracklist. Until recently the localized version said "Grandpa's House" until G Boy changed it to "An Old Man's House". Now, I've got problems with both these versions. First, I thing it would be okay to say "Grandpa" in the localized version, as long as at least one of the Outset Island people calls them grandpa/grandpas. They don't need to be the grandpa of Link or anyone IMO, since older people are sometimes fondly (or for fun) referred to as grandpa/grandma by non-relatives, maybe even without technically being grandpas/grandmas. But I don't know if any of the Outset Island people calls them that way.
My second, maybe more important point here is, that there isn't just one grandpa/old man. There are two of them living in the house where the track plays, so I think no matter for which of the versions we go, it should be plural:
"(The) Old Men's House"/"(The) Grandpas' House"
I'm especially curious about your thoughts on this one.

Fencing Instruction → Sword Training
Since there is no actual fencing going on, just practicing with the sword.

The Forest of Outset Island → Fairy Woods
FYI: It appears to be called "Forest of Fairies" in WWHD.

I think a more literal translation would be better here, since that's just what's going on during that cutscene. Maybe this is already going into a personal taste direction.

I would totally go with "Potion Shop" here for the localized tracklist, that's a good suggestion for said reasons. G Boy already changed it, in my eyes we can leave it like that.

1-31
Ocean → The Great Sea
Seemingly swapped with the literal translation, where it should say something like "Ocean", but currently says "The Great Sea".

1-33

I'm sure there is more to be improved and I didn't dug as deep as I could for all those, so I won't add anything before I got support for a change. That's what I've got for the moment. There are some tracks, which left me puzzled, because I couldn't really verify them, or just have a feeling that there might be something wrong with them, but that doesn't mean anything, of course:
1-64 Song of the New Year's Ceremony, 1-66 Sacred Shrine, 2-14 The Miracle Stone Shows One's True Nature

There is also one general thing I'd like to be cleared (again):
As I read through this thread, I figured that there are two EN tracklists mainly to prevent useless and time wasting edit wars. The name "English (Localized)" is clear, but the other one is just called "English". Wouldn't it be better if it said "English (Literal)" as it does on other albums? Just to prevent upcoming misunderstandings.

I checked a dump of the game's script, and even though Sturgeon definitely is the grandfather of another character in the game, the other old man in that house named Orca isn't called a grandfather by anyone. Therefore, the correct translation would probably be "Old Men's House", so I've changed the title to that.
