Default BON-1019: Disco Space Invaders

Information gathered from a few sources, the best of which were:

http://loveshop-record.com/modules/s...96f57c674b467c
http://www.ne.jp/asahi/sgmori/mitara...ceinvaders.htm

Taito, the developer of Space Invaders, is mentioned on the back of the album in some capacity, so I listed this as an official.

It'll be interesting to see if any of the names credited on this album ever show up again, connected in some way to any other game music.

Wow, that's a cool find! I wonder if this album predates the YMO one or not, since they both came out in 1978.

It's cheap too. I came across one online store that sells for as little as 450 yen.

Edit: Forgot to mention this, but as the calendar only goes back as far as 1980, this album and the YMO ones can't be found there (you get an error message when clicking on their dates).

We'll have to bump up the minimum year limit, heh.

I made a change to the artist fields: arranger is Funny Stuff instead of Keizo Endo.

I tried again to find out what the exact date of release is for this album, mainly because it would be nice to able to determine what the first VGM related album was. Haven't found an exact date yet (not sure if it is printed on the actual album), but I did find some sites claiming that the YMO debut album is actually the first one. Moreover, these sites quote a 1979 release date for the Disco Space Invaders album album, not a 1978 one.

On this site http://www.h3.dion.ne.jp/~kuboken/famicom/memyone.html, for instance, the author writes he owns the Disco Space Invaders album and that it is regarded as the first VGM album, but then mentions (between brackets) that he actually considers the first YMO album to be the first, considering the simulated game samples that were included on that album.

This site http://www.geocities.jp/exclusivekunny/g8.html, gives a 1979 release date for the album (it also mentiones the single wasn't a big hit at the disco's at the time .

And finally, this site: http://siproject.homeip.net/blog/anz...es_view&no=121, which describes the origins of VGM related albums, also places the release of YMO's first album before the Disco Space Invaders one, again mentioning the 1979 date.

Thoughts?

Edit: Decided to take a short cut and ask a seller of the album on Y!JA about this. There's no date on the album album, but the seller says he heard the album came out in 1979. I guess it'll be pretty much impossible to find absolute proof of the release date.

Found another site that mentions a 1978 date for the release: http://spitfire.client.jp/shooting/h...istory001.html. But then again, the writer does state that the YMO album probably preceded it.

Since the game come out in 1978, the confusion about the date could have come from there. Since all sources seem to agree on the fact that the YMO album preceded the Disco Space Invaders one, I think the 1979 date is more likely to be accurate myself.

I think 1979 is much more likely then. If people are remembering that the YMO album predates it, then there isn't much of a window left for it to be 1978, since the YMO one came out in November. That makes early 1979 to be the most likely.

According to Tomohiro Nishikado, Michiyuki Kamei did the music and the sound FX for the game.
According to Nishikado's biography recently published in France by Omake Books, Disco Space Invaders was released on January 25, 1979, although for some reason the author says it predates YMO's Computer Game

Yes he did, thank you so much for the correction. I don't know where I got the info that Nishikado did the sound himself...
