I'm a bit puzzled with the tracklist. Original announcement said the soundtrack would feature 64 tracks, like the original sound version. Yet there are 78 here. Besides, they've removed the last 5 tracks from the music list on the official website.

it seems the four omake tracks that first appeared on the Playstation release have finally made their way onto an official Chrono Trigger OST! About time. I've added Tsuyoshi Sekito as he originally composed those (i assume that'll appear in the booklet anyway.)

To clarify, the English translations I put up are from the English game's Music box feature.

Does anyone know if these all recorded straight from the DS? I haven't played the DS version and I wonder how the quality of this OST compares to the original OSV.

I've played the DS version and I honestly didn't hear any difference at all. And I've listened to the SNES OSV a lot so I expect I wouldn't noticed. So don't expect any great difference here, not like the DS versions of FF III and IV or anything.

Yeah, the OST sounds pretty identical. However, one thing I noticed during gameplay was the awful-sounding bass.

Regarding the DVD, anyone know if the interview has English subtitles or if the DVD is Region 2? (not that region encoding matters to me)

I think the 4th disc (the DVD) should not be in the tracklist.. it's only videos, and not part of the "album" itself.

Agreed, instead it should be listed on the notes as it is.

On the other hand, there is a Mitsuda interview on there, and the rest of the content is music videos, so it is of interest. I guess the question is whether it should be listed in its own separate entry.

Are the tracks "Disc 3 20-23" exclusive for the Nintendo DS version only? I'm asking because I never heard any of them before.
Seanne: I can hear the difference, the DS version is lighter and softer, less KHz and drums. I would call a cheaper version compared to the Original Sound Version. Disc 3 Tracks 20-23 are amazing, great work. Last edited by Metroid; Aug 12, 2009 at 10:08 AM. |

Those 4 tracks appear in the Playstation version in the extras menus. They were composed by Tsuyoshi Sekito.

They should have released them on the Playstation Version, shame on them.
Thanks strugglepoo for having clarified that. |

i already clarified it earlier :<! i agree though, they definitely should have been released on the '99 soundtrack. they're great tracks, too. better late than never.

What's really hip about the bonus Sekito tracks is that he uses SNES FM-synth to write the tracks. One might mistake it for Mitsuda.

So those new tracks are the only thing special / different about this release? Well, other than the DVD, of course...

Disc 3 track 20 is special

.. yet the person who last edited the notes field credited it to mitsuda rather than sekito. probably best to just leave the notes field blank until there's scans.
the only other difference aside from the extra tracks is that all the tracks will be Nintendo DS versions rather than SNES or Playstation (arranged tracks aside.)

I know that are translations from japanese, but the title of track 2-05 (Lavos's Theme) is really correct? Seems like a typo to me...

A grammar issue =)
It's supposed to be taken from the game's music box feature, so that may be an official mistake. |

Yeah, it's "Lavos's Theme" in the sound test, with a second S.
(naturally, like everything in English, there is disagreement about whether or not you should include the S after the apostrophe in possessive forms of singular nouns ending in an S sound) ((brb adding Esperanto tracklists to all albums)) |

Someone at the Chrono Compendium who purchased this is reporting read/sync errors on tracks 22 and 23 on disc 3 (using EAC, highest settings). Can anyone verify if these are native to the discs? There are no scratches on her copy of disc 3 or other visible signs of damage.
Edit: By the way, it is Sekito for those four PSX extras menu tracks; source from a Mitsuda interview: http://www.originalsoundversion.com/?p=915 Edit 2: Also, greetings to Kaleb G.; haven't seen you since you found the Chrono Break copyright. Last edited by ZeaLitY; Sep 20, 2009 at 04:34 PM. |

Not sure about track 23, but for track 22, it's at the 0:24-0:25 mark.

The errors occur around the beginning, around 65% and at the end of the track. I was able to rip track 22 without any Read/Sync error after the sixth or seventh try, but it still said something, I'll copy paste the log info: Track 22 Suspicious position 0:03:04 Peak level 99.9 % Track quality 99.1 % Test CRC C566D378 Copy CRC C566D378 Track not present in AccurateRip database Copy finished About track 23, I just can't make it happen. I've tried in both of my desktop and laptop, same profile using EAC, and it stills gives me the same error. The only thing that varies is where it gets stuck, sometimes it's a the beginning, sometimes around 94%. Here's the log info: Track 23 Suspicious position 0:03:18 - 0:03:19 Suspicious position 0:03:25 Suspicious position 0:03:27 - 0:03:32 Peak level 99.9 % Track quality 97.4 % Test CRC 745CF078 Copy CRC 19111563 Track not present in AccurateRip database Copy finished Disc 1 and 2 rips went 100% error less. So it's not any of my disc drives/rom. Thanks for the help btw <3 |

Looks like a mastering error to me. It's only weird that the CRC for both copy and test matches on track 22. Can you confirm that the position given by EAC (at 0:03:04) is really "suspicious"?
Track 23 however looks like it has "genuine" bad sectors, which give random data each time the drive reads them. @Razakin: Don't they have some sort of quality check for the discs? |

Hopefully some other people can show their logs and experiences with that disc. Well, I've noticed that my cd-dive is getting old, atleast it does sometime give that Suspicious position error on the last track and usually on the last second, some discs go ok fine, some don't.. So I wondered if that would have been the case. |

I was able to find a lossless rip somewhere else; the discs were ripped in single files (is that normal these days, by the way? To distribute an entire CD as one FLAC? I've been depacking them in foobar to individual songs; hope that's not violating some VGM commandment or something).
Selected range Filename F:\UP_PACK_NEW\CHRONO TRIGGER OST (NDS) DISC 3.wav Peak level 99.9 % Range quality 100.0 % Test CRC 54279F18 Copy CRC 54279F18 Copy OK No errors occurred So it could be a drive issue for Radical Pan, although it's troublesome this has happened on two different drives. |

Zeality do not believe log files unless you are the one who created it, log files can be modified, results on the ACC database are static which means that it can not be modified. If you have the file, files, Disc or CD, the best way to check if it was accurately ripped without errors is by going against the same DiscID listed on the ACC database http://www.accuraterip.com/ . Unfortunately this game is not yet listed on the ACC database. So as it stands, we can not be sure if her case is a Drive or Disc issue.
By the way, I'm glad you came by and better for had brought Radical Pan (a girl) to our VGM world. |

Anyway, querying the AccuRip is probably the best idea. Should give you a good idea if it's indeed a mastering error. If it is you probably can find some more rips with the same AccuRip ID (and therefore same errors). |
