Here's something interesting: apparently there were two different disc variants for this album. Here is a picture to illustrate:

Interesting find, haven't seen the yellow disc version before. Is that your copy?

Nice, does the repress come with the obi? Would be interesting to see if they removed the denotation with the picture disc on it.

It does have an obi, and the obis on both versions are identical. Aside from the disc differences, everything else is identical.

colour version was probably advertised by a sticker applied on the shrinkwrap
good luck finding a sealed copy now

I don't think so. I've had a sealed V'Ball and Nekketsu and both didn't have an extra sticker applied.

Maybe those didn't have a special 1st print? Or maybe you haven't found it yet.
Just like not all D28B releases seem to have had a picture disc, but at least some did, like Power Drift.

At least in the case of V’Ball, the indication that it contained a picture disc is printed on the Obi itself.

Edit: I just looked at the scan and it’s the same with the Nekketsu album.

we want to see the super mario spines, if they are exactly the same, does it mean the non-colour one wrongly mentions the colour disc ?

what an exciting mystery to start the autumn

It's the same with every MECG albums hence I don't believe there was an extra sticker.

I used to have a sealed Super Mario Bros. Special, but I sold it a while ago. I don't remember there being anything on the shrink wrap itself.

I'm pretty sure my copy of System Soft Super Simulation Sound was sealed when I got it, and there was nothing on the shrink wrap there, either.

Both of the Super Mario Bros. Special CDs that Rrolack showed are picture discs, right? One's just in full color.

The full color disc also appears to have extra text to the right of tanooki suit Mario.

From zooming in, it looks like that says "(c) Nintendo". That's also at the bottom of the liner notes in the full color copy, but the flash is obscuring that section in the yellow copy.

left side is color cd, right side is yellow cd, there's a whole text missing on the right, between the blue bars

let me guess it says color cd and bonus sticker?

Close! It says “Picture Disc and Original Sticker”.

Okay, interesting. After checking my obis, they are indeed different in the way LuxKiller65 described.

I guess the yellow disc didn't come with a sticker then.

It is possible that other MECG albums also had an alternate printing?

According to the spinecards visible on this site, all the MECG mention those two bonuses, except LOOM and LUCASFILM GAMES. It may not be a coincidence that these are the latest releases and the only ones from 1991, while the others are all from 1990.

Also, there are 2 ways they worded the bonus, one doesn't mention "CD" like Super Mario, and one mentions "CD" like Double Dragon II. But I guess they mention the same exact thing (colour disc).
