Default UPC/EAN codes?

Just wondering why this option is not available on this database. I was browsing the database and noticed this particular piece of data was missing; I think it's as important as the catalog number (different regions can get different barcodes, of course).

Any thoughts? Has this been discussed before?

Sounds like a good idea to me. Too bad it wasn't thought of sooner, but that just gives us more work to do. :-)

Oh, don't worry about work; we have big changes planned in installments which will involve going through and refining all the album info in the database =)

I'd like more info about these codes -- which codes correspond to which region, formatting and syntax, and so on. I'll add them in together with a field for freedb disc ID codes.

I don't know much about UPC, but there's some info on wiki:

I'm not sure how much Japanese stuff carries a UPC, but it's useful for Western releases. I'm pretty sure that at least a few albums in the database are using the UPC as a cat number.

Japanese companies and online stores use this:

I deal with UPC/EAN codes over at MobyGames; Japanese releases use a ... fifteen number code, I think. Anyway, hope this gets added soonish!

I can see how this would be useful for western releases (and some such entries already have codes entered in the cat. number box) but for Japanese releases the regular cat. number should suffice.

Some albums are promo/enclosure and do not necessarily carry a CD catalog number. I think it may be useful to mention the product UPC in this case.
