I wonder if anybody knows the edition where this CD came from?
I have the CD, but I can't find any mention of collector's edition on the Internet

This is one of the oldest entry.
Yes, there is no Collector's Edition for "Myst".

I think the CD was only available directly on the developer's website: Cyan.
I'll change that.

There actually was a collector's set called Myst: Gear for the Journey. It came with a shirt, a mousepad, the first novel in the series, of course this CD and maybe another item or two. I don't believe the game was included, however.
After having played the game over the summer my sister and I each bought one of these for the other (unknowingly) for Christmas. Yep. We're nerds. I convinced her to share the contents of hers and kept mine sealed. I'll consult the package to see what else is inside when I get home.

Okay, I checked. It also comes with a hint book and a calendar for 1997. It can still be found on Amazon.com as of this post.

Thanks, i did not know that.
I'll rectify the entry once more.

edit: the 1997 calendar makes me wonder if the release date should be 1996...

See, I didn't know anything about the CD's availability on the website, but it makes sense. It's possible that they bundled remaining CDs printed in '95 with this special set in '96. I'd leave it but whatever you think is best. If I discover more I'll let you know.

Also, if I may: the novel is "The Book of Atrus"
