Default It's a Media Circus!

Individual album discs -- or tapes -- are now represented in a new media table. This means every piece of media now gets their own catalog number, and you can specify a mix of media formats (such as CD + DVD) for a single album entry. The change is mostly internal at the moment, but eventually media catalog numbers and titles will make their way to album/tracklist displays and search functions. Media entries are also automatically synchronized with the total number of tracks and total playing length in associated tracklists, which will be required for an upcoming top-secret feature =)

Album submission is still largely unchanged. You specify a format and the number of discs, which automatically creates the media entries. If you specify a catalog number range like CPCA-10128~34, the system will automatically split it up for you. Afterwards you can modify existing media and add new entries through the album edit page (note that you must click on the submit button for the changes to take effect). The latest media submissions can be viewed from Recent Updates.

Click here for a screenshot of the interface.

This is definitely an important update, and it'll pave the way for a lot of the structural changes that will allow the new improvements that are coming up.

Another good thing is that it'll allow us to deal with those pesky albums that have two or 3 different catalog numbers, where one is for the cover back, one for the disc, and another for the book.

This will certainly come in handy as more and more releases are being bundled together as CD & DVD releases these days.

Do we have to include bonus DVDs that does not contain "music" but videos..?

How do you deal with Avex albums for example.. all these with /B on catalog number ?

You can go ahead and add the bonus DVD media. The media table does not affect existing tracklists. I plan to update the tracklisting system to better represent data tracks.

Ooh, how so? If we allow each track to contain not only data on title and length, but artist as well, it could be really useful for, say, a VGMDB lookup auto-tagger... 8D'

Bugfix -- reprints (and bootlegs) now generate their own media catalog numbers instead of copying from the parent album.
