Otherwise, I'm just going to update the previously posted tracklist with what we've discussed now, so we have a full tracklist ready, rather than talking individual tracks. I'll probably edit this as we go along and decide on other tracks. Also fixing up any errors in the original tracklist.

disc 3~5 notes. not doing disc 6.
Quote:
3.01 フィールド(灼熱)
Field (Scorching Heat)
scorching is a better word for describing weather

3.03 採掘場の鼻歌
Humming at the Mine
not southern mine because 南 isn't included. most likely referring to humming goron at the mine.

3.15 フィールド(酷暑)
Field (Intense Heat)
not just heat, it's 酷 (intense) 暑 (heat)

3.27 ルージュに託されて
Entrusted to Riju
this is a cutscene track, but which one?

3.34 無念なレース
literally meaning "Regrettable Race" but that doesn't sound right

4.10 憑りつかれたネルドラ
Possessed Naydra
憑りつかれた meaning possessed. note that the kanji for malice (怨念) isn't used here.

4.11 聖なる泉の使い
lit. Usage of the Holy Spring
not referring to the Spring of Power (力の泉)

4.12 赤き月の予兆
Portent of the Blood Moon
maybe "Omen" would be a better word

4.15 to 4.26 リンクの記憶
this title literally translates to "Link's Memories"
"Recovered Memory" is written as 思い出した記憶 in the Japanese quest log

4.25 十二の記憶が揃う時
lit. When the Twelve Memories are Collected
note that the character for "all" (全) isn't used here

4.30 ハイラル城 ガノン咆哮

formatting

4.33 発動! 英傑の力
lit. Invocation! The Power of the Champions

5.14 ゲットファンファーレ(克服の証/貴重なアイテム)
Get Fanfare (Medal of Honor / Rare Item)
not sure why "material" was used here when it literally says "item"

5.19 暇つぶし
Killing Time

5.20 宿泊(普通)
Inn (Regular)
no mention of "bed" here. in-game text for "Regular Bed" is 普通のベッド

5.21 宿泊(高級)
Inn (High-class)
no mention of "bed" here. in-game text for "Soft Bed" is ふかふかベッド

5.25 コログのお題達成
lit. Korok Assignment Accomplished

5.26 コログ登場
A Korok Appears
adding leading "A"

this one is awkward. suggestions?

5.39 英傑の祠

The Final Trial
add leading "The"

Hmm, maybe "Puzzle Solved Jingle" sounds nice. I feel like this is the best English interpretation.

I've added all these to the list I made above, changing all the "Recovered Memory" tracks to "Link's Memories". I thought it was just "Link's Memories" in the Japanese log, so I didn't bring it up earlier.

Yeah, sure, that works.

It was hard to find video or images for a few things, like the memory titles, so I actually had to set my Switch to Japanese and check it myself.

Oh. Thanks for all the effort, haha. Does that just require using a Japanese user to change the language ingame? Or is it more complicated than that?

Too bad this isn't Odyssey with all the language options ingame at any time.

You can change the audio language normally but to get Japanese text you actually have to change the system setting on your Switch.

Oh, and Japanese buyers have already started receiving their copies of this soundtrack. Apparently all the featured compositions are listed in the booklet:

How nice!

Oh that's great! I was looking for this earlier since I noticed people on twitter were getting their copies today.

.... I'm not writing all the names in notes.

Well, I still find it interesting that Koji Kondo wasn't credited for some of the tracks on the Sound Selection CD, but I guess that's just Nintendo being Nintendo (actually, they didn't even credit any composers, if I recall correctly).

For example, "The Temple of Time" uses a leitmotif from the original Temple of Time track from Ocarina of Time.... and well, almost every other iteration of the track.

The leitmotifs are quite cleverly hidden in this soundtrack, similarly in Xenoblade 2. I really appreciate stuff like this, when it's quite subtle but a direct reference to another track. I really wish another certain composer would the same these days.

On another note, I'm taking another look at disc 1.

1-14 is "100年前の出来事". We currently have it as "100 Years Ago", but shouldn't it be something more like "Event from 100 Years Ago"?

Yes. Good catch.

I added the lengthy list of featured compositions (found a good pic on Twitter).

This track title from Skyward Sword seems to be new: 龍の間. I translated it as "Place of Dragons". 間 (ma) is a weird word though.

I would've read it as "aida". "Ma" probably makes more sense as a reading though.

I'll try and get a good image of the entire thing when it arrives and post it here if no one does it before me. Not sure if my scanner is big enough for the page size, but we'll see when it arrives. It looks like A4 though, so it should be fine.

I wasn't satisfied with the title for the dragon theme (聖なる泉の使い), so I looked into it.

From the in-game description of Naydra:
Quote:
Making its home in the Lanayru region, it's said to have served the Spring of Wisdom since ancient times.
In Japanese the last part is:
Quote:
古来 知恵の泉の使い言われる
So it seems Nintendo wants us to read 使い as servant. So the title for the track would be "Servant of the Sacred Spring".

So...

02 The Adventure of Link: Overworld Map Theme
03 A Link to the Past: Light World Overworld Theme
04 Link's Awakening: Tal Tal Mountain
05 Ocarina of Time / Ocarina of Time 3D: Hyrule Field Main Theme
06 Majora's Mask / Majora's Mask 3D: Termina Field
07 Oracle of Seasons / Oracle of Ages: Overworld Theme
08 The Wind Waker / The Wind Waker HD: The Great Sea
09 Four Swords Adventures: The Field Theme
10 Twilight Princess / Twilight Princess HD: Hyrule Field (Main Theme)
11 Phantom Hourglass: The Great Sea
12 Spirit Tracks: Full Steam Ahead Part 2 (Main Theme)
13 Skyward Sword: The Sky -Together with the Loftwing-
14 A Link Between Worlds: Hyrule Main Theme
15 Tri Force Heroes: Woodlands

You may notice a few changes such as:

1-08 "Trial of the Shrine" changed to "Shrine of Trials" because that's the official translation (as Rew pointed out)

2-16 "Champion's Ability" changed to "The Champion's Divine Gift" - https://i.imgur.com/ymjC4m6.png

2-19 "Field (Freezing)" to "Field (Freezing Cold)" so it's consistent with 3-01 "Field (Scorching Heat)"

4-39 "Staff Roll" changed to "Staff Credits" because that's how Nintendo normally translates it (check other soundtracks published by NoA)

5-43 changed "Aloof" to "Solitary"

5-46 changed to "Larger Than Life: Daruk"
The kanji 豪傑 can be translated as "someone who is larger than life" which is fitting for this character

And a few other minor edits. If there's no objections, then it should be good to go.

Popping in here to add my 2¢ on nextday's latest list. I don't know Japanese, but there are some things that stand out to me:

1-3:
I'm assuming this is referring to when the Sheikah Towers rise out of the ground, thus "appearing," but the word appearance can also mean "what something looks like," which caused me a bit of confusion upon seeing the name. Perhaps "The Sheikah Tower Appears" would be a less ambiguous title? (Or maybe plural, aka "The Sheikah Towers Appear" since that's what happens? I don't know if that would be an inaccurate translation, though.)

1-8, 1-35:
I'm guessing these refers to two different types of shrines, the shrines with puzzles and the shrines with a "blessing" for completing an overworld challenge. As such, I feel there should be consistent naming between the two; either 1-8 should be changed to "Trial Shrine" (and 1-7 changed accordingly) to match 1-35, or 1-35 should be named "Shrine of Blessings" to match 1-8.

1-14:
"Event from 100 Years Ago" sounds somewhat awkward, maybe it should be "The Events of 100 Years Ago"?

1-16:
"Landing on the Ground" sounds so mundane, especially for what I'm assuming it represents (when you first touch down into Hyrule from the Great Plateau). Google Translate gives me "Descend to the earth," and I don't know how accurate that is, but perhaps something like "Descent Upon the Land" would be better?

1-25:
I feel like 1-25 is when Impa tells the story from 10,000 years ago as it matches Kass's equivalent 1-31 (or 1-33? It's a bit unclear there. Also, I don't know what this means for 1-23; I'm guessing that's the just the song for Impa talking in general). As such, I feel like it should be "Ancient Legend", as she calls it a legend in the game.

2-2:
Maybe this should be "You Must not Harm/Hurt the Flowers" to match the line in the game? Again, my lack of Japanese knowledge prevents me from knowing how valid of a translation it is, though.

2-15:
For all the other champions you have "Reunion with <Champions>" but for this one you put "Reunion: Mipha". It should probably be changed to match the others.

2-17:
Is this accurate? From it's placement in the list, I feel like it's when the Divine Beasts move into position and put the targeting beam on the castle, but that doesn't match the name you're giving it as it happens after the beast is restored. As a guess, maybe it should be "The Restored Divine Beast"?

4-33:
"Invocation!"? That's a rather strange word to exclaim. If that's the proper translation, then I guess that's that, but it just seems weird.

1-27, 5-8:
In one you have a colon, and in the other you don't. Again, they should be consistent.

5-11:
I randomly plugged this into Google Translate and got "The mountain of Satri", no mention of "Lord" or anything similar. Should this track just be named "Satori Mountain"? (I realize the Lord of the Mountain appears there, but is he referenced in the track title?)

5-12:
"Bird-Man Research Study"? I don't recall any such minigame. I'm guessing this is the paraglider minigame, but I fail to see how that's a research study. Maybe double-check the translation here?

5-14:
"Medal of Honor"? Again, I recall no such thing in the game. Could this be referring to Spirit Orbs (which according to their in-game description are "symbol[s] of courage")?

I noticed a few of the tracknames aren't consistent with the similarly named tracks on the OST.

For example:
Quote:
DISC 2
15 Reunion: Mipha
31 Reunion with Revali
DISC 3
13 Reunion with Daruk
30 Reunion with Urbosa
Should we go with the "Reuinion: X" format, or the "Ruinion with X" format?

EDIT: Also, weren't we going with "Blessed Shrine"?

EDIT 2: Again, I think 5-57 should be "The Champions' Ballad". That's the title of DLC, and what is said ingame with the same Japanese text, from memory.

I've got some interim scans coming in for this from my husband sometime in the next hour or so.

ETA: Maybe by the end of the night...

We could make it "Shiekah Tower Appears". I thought this was sugested earlier. The only thing is that the Japanese title doesn't indicate a verb form of the word, so I think either is fine.

Shrine of Blessings makes sense, I also feel "Blessed Shrine" works too.

This sounds better. We should go with this.

nextday said the following about this track:
Quote:
降り立つ means "to alight" but "landing" is a probably a better word. not sure what this track is referencing though
So I'd say this could be discussed a bit more.

We already talked about how "Legend" would be an unsuitable word to use since the kanji for "Legend" (伝説) is used in other tracks, and the name of the game (The Legend of Zelda). Though can someone check the Japanese text of this cutscene? If Impa says the title of this track, and it's localised as "Ancient Legend", then we have our answer.

Quote:
2-2:

This track is correct, the title is the name of the quest relating to the character, not what the character says. They localised the title of the quest as such, so we're keeping it consistent instead of having it literal.

Quote:

Yes.

Actually I'm pretty sure "堂々たる神獣" doesn't translate to "restored". From what I can tell it seems like it should be something along the lines of "The Grand Divine Beast", but someone could suggest a better translation.

Quote:
4-33:
"Invocation!"? That's a rather strange word to exclaim. If that's the proper translation, then I guess that's that, but it just seems weird.
Meaning of the word. It's like starting up something, "putting into operation". Not sure what a better term would be.

Quote:
1-27, 5-8:

Yes.

He is directly mentioned in the track title. I made a post about this earlier. Google Translate likely omits the "Lord" part because it's in katakana and Google Translate sucks.

Quote:
5-12:

"Bird-Man Research Study" is correct. I checked and this is the English title of the quest. It is the paraglider minigame, but the title of the track is named after the quest name.

Quote:
5-14:
"Medal of Honor"? Again, I recall no such thing in the game. Could this be referring to Spirit Orbs (which according to their in-game description are "symbol[s] of courage")?
I checked, and yes it is indeed referring to Spirit Orbs. I suggest we change it to "Get Fanfare (Spirit Orb/Rare Item)" as such.

Looking over the tracklist that nextday posted earlier this afternoon, it's looking like it might be a good idea to have two separate English tracklists--one literal and the other localized. There are some track names that are too cumbersome to use in natural English if you include the exact Japanese phraseology or include too many words. Anyway, here are my thoughts on specific tracks:

Quote:
1-14 Event from 100 Years Ago
This seems cumbersome, and to be honest I liked the way we had it before. I know "event" is in the Japanese, but I still feel like "100 Years Ago" captures the essence of what's happening here.

Quote:
1-19 Sheikah Tower Activated
I thought we agreed for tracks like this with a space in the Japanese title, we were going to use colons? (I.e. "Sheikah Tower: Activated")

Quote:
33 Kass: "Song of Tradition"
I'm still not keen on "tradition" here. When you watch the cutscene and read the lyrics of Kass's song, it's about the hero of legend. There is nothing about tradition in the song. I know it's not the same word for "legend" from the Legend of Zelda titles, but I still think a word like that fits the context better than tradition.

Quote:
1-35 Blessing Shrine
I agree with MBgov that "Blessed Shrine" sounds better.

Quote:
2-07 Link's Memories: "Mipha's Touch"
In the in-game Adventure Log (in the US version) all the memories are called "Recovered Memories." I think we should use that phraseology here in track 2-07, also 2-23, 3-08, and 3-24, as well as 4-15 through 4-26.

Quote:
2-31 Reunion with Revali
Yeah, MBgov is right. We should stick with the earlier idea of using the colon here instead of "with"--ditto tracks 3-13 and 3-30.

Quote:
2-34 Minigame: Snowball Bowling
Again, the official guidebook consistently uses the spelling "mini-game" instead of "minigame" so there should be a hyphen here at track 2-34, as well as 3-33, 3-37, 5-07, and 5-12.

Quote:
3-01 Field (Scorching Heat)
3-15 Field (Intense Heat)
Here's where my general lack of familiarity with Japanese comes in. You used the same word (i.e. "heat"), but the Japanese has two different words instead. What's the difference between them? And whatever that difference, should that affect what we put as the track title for each?

Quote:
3-10 Yunobo's Opportunity
I know I'm splitting atoms here, but the English cutscene has Yunobo use the phrase "our big chance!" Perhaps this should be "Yunobo's Big Chance" or (since there's no の) "Big Chance for Yunobo"?

Quote:
3-27 Entrusted to Riju
This one confuses me. It's during the cutscene after Link and Riji defeat the Divine Beast Vah Naboris battle. She takes her leave and tells Link, "I entrust this job to you." So if Riju is the one doing the entrusting in the cutscene, why does the track title seem to say she's the one being entrusted to instead of the reverse? (At this point, this is probably me just overthinking it, haha.)

Quote:
3-34 Regrettable Race
"Regrettable" doesn't seem to be a fitting word here. I think "failed" is more standard for jingles where the player loses a mini-game.

Quote:
4-06 Memories of a Sacred Sword
Because this refers to a Recovered Memory entitled in the Adventure Log as "The Master Sword," I think the track title should be "Recovered Memory: 'The Master Sword'."

Quote:
4-14 Recollected Memory
Again, I feel this should be "Recovered Memory" to match the nomenclature of the English-speaking version of the game. (Same for track 4-25.)

Quote:
4-33 Invocation! The Power of the Champions
This seems too much like Engrish (or maybe it's too anime?) for me. I know there's the exclamation at the beginning of the track title, but I feel like "The Power of the Champions Activates!" is a smoother English reading. Again, this might highlight the need for two different English tracklists.

Quote:
5-17 Sheikah Slate Upgrade
Needs a colon here in front of "Upgrade".

Quote:
5-21 Inn (High-class)
I don't like this one for some reason. Since the previous track--"Inn (Regular)"--just has a single word in parentheses, I feel like this one should too, to match. Maybe "Inn (Deluxe)"? Or if we do keep your version, can we at least make it "(High Class)" (i.e. without the superfluous hyphen)? Also, I think in that vein "Inn (Common)" might be a better title for track 5-20.

Quote:
25 Korok Assignment Accomplished
This is really cumbersome and unnatural. It works well for an English literal tracklist, but I think "Finding a Korok" gets at the spirit of what's happening here for a localized track title.

Quote:
54 The Holy Princess and the Five Champions
"Holy" should be omitted--it's a very Engrish way of referring to Zelda, and I don't think any game uses that word for her in the series (in English anyway).

Maybe "The Divine Princess"? But even that sounds more like Skyward Sword than Breath of the Wild.

That's it for all my nitpicky complaints and suggestions! :P It's too bad Nintendo didn't do with this game as Monolith has done for Xenogears and Xenoblade 2 and just provide English track titles for us. xD

The One Guy suggested that we have it as "The Events of 100 Years Ago". I personally think this works better than "Event from 100 Years Ago".

nextday mentioned that this is only like this since it matched the ingame text.

I think "Shrine of Blessing" is also acceptable though. It's more literal but it's accurate.

"リンクの記憶" title literally translates to "Link's Memories". "Recovered Memory" is written as 思い出した記憶 in the Japanese quest log, not as "リンクの記憶", so it should be different to what's in the game and more literal. nextday mentioned this earlier.

Again, yes.

This is worth considering. I personally prefer "Minigame" but either is fine. Though it's worth noting that official guidebooks are usually made and edited by people outside of the localisation team, so it's not usually the most accurate source for localisations.

We have it as "Scorching Heat" and "Intense Heat" respectively, don't we? Isn't that enough difference?

The Japanese title actually uses the word "chance" in katakana so I think this suggestion is reasonable, even if "chance" is just a Japanese word to indicate opportunity.

That's what I thought when I saw this title initially. The verb form implies that it was done to you (I think? Not too familiar with the される verb form) and in which case we could say the title is "Entrusted by Riju", or something like that.

It's kind of awkward in English, I agree. I don't mind "Regrettable" though.

I'm not too sure about this. I'd like some screenshots so we could see for sure. I feel it's not necessary to do that when the Japanese title doesn't have it in there - I would assume that it's different to the Japanese in-game text as well, so unless the Japanese in-game text is the same as this, there's no reason to have the "Recovered Memory" part.

Not entirely sure what the best thing to do for this would be though.
I believe the Japanese title for this song uses a different word to what's used in the Japanese adventure log though, so I'm not sure if that's suitable.

I honestly think we should keep it in the same order as the Japanese title. So "Activate! The Power of the Champions" would be better, if we were to use the word "Activate" instead of "Invocation". I think that sounds nicer in English too.

There seems to be a bunch of consistency errors that we can figure out soon anyway. That'll be useful.

The hyphen bothered me too. I think we shouldn't have unnecessary hyphens, I guess. I don't mind what's in the actual bracket, but I feel like "Deluxe" isn't right.

It's quite literal. Maybe "Korok Found" would be better than "Finding a Korok", but I don't mind the literal interpretation.

"Sacred" might work.

Monolith didn't do Xenogears, that was Square, pretty sure.

Regarding 1-35 I like "Shrine of Blessings" much better than "Blessed Shrine". These are shrines that give a blessing to Link, not shrines that are themselves blessed.

Maybe "The Divine Princess"? But even that sounds more like Skyward Sword than Breath of the Wild.
I changed it to divine. Actually, even in Japanese the title 聖なる姫 seems to be unusual. In the Japanese art book, there's a description of Zelda:

Quote:
100年前に存在したハイラル王国の姫。
The princess of Hyrule, who has existed for 100 years.

遠い祖先から聖なる女神の血を継ぐ。
She inherited the blood of the divine goddess from a distant ancestor.
Even in other Zelda games (including SS) there's no tracks that say 聖なる女神 (divine goddess). It's just 女神 (goddess). This a BotW-specific thing.

It sounds mundane but that's what it says. The word here 降り立つ means "to go down and stand" or in other words "to land". I guess it could be "Touching Down on the Ground" but that's not very different.

I had "Blessing Shrine" to be consistent with 5-39 "Champion Shrine". Blessings wouldn't be appropriate because there's only a single reward.

The memory he's referring to is just titled マスターソード (master sword) in Japanese, so I'll be keeping the current translation of "sacred sword".

Like I said previously, 伝承 (denshou) doesn't seem to appear in the game. In the cutscene the word is 伝説 (densetsu). So no changes there.

I checked the Japanese in-game text and it's slightly different, so I changed it.

There's actually a bunch of NOA text reviewers credited on the guidebook, so we'll use "Mini-Game".

Change the "-" to a "~", to keep consistent with the Japanese text and the other tracks with a ~ in the Japanese title.

Otherwise the changes you've made seem reasonable. I don't see any issues with the tracklist currently. I think if I find anything we can change it later on.

On another note, it's kinda sad that this website was down for the past few days, but I'm glad it's back up.

Added tracklist. Went with "Korok Challenge Complete" for that one track I wasn't sure about.

It's the sfx that plays when you complete one of those Korok seed mini challenges (shoot a balloon, etc.).

Edit: Also, I made some standard sized covers for anyone who cares:
Spoiler:

Thanks a lot for the standard covers. Still waiting for my copy, but these will be great for tagging.

There's no piano/keyboard player credited in the booklet, but we can probably assume it was played by Kataoka and Iwata.

It isn't explicitly stated in the booklet interview either. The most Wakai ever says is that "they are good at playing the piano".

Manaka Kataoka is a pianist: http://kobemusic11th.blog88.fc2.com/category3-1.html
Yasuaki Iwata is a pianist: http://choirvolare.jp/4thconcert.html

Random composer trivia:
Kataoka and Iwata are both graduates of Kobe University. Kataoka graduated in 2007 and Iwata graduated in 2012.
Kataoka's graduation thesis was on minimal music in visual arts, covering the works of Philip Glass.

In the list of featured compositions, shouldn't "ハイラル城BGM" be actually the Hyrule Castle BGM from A Link to the Past? That's the theme being quoted on the referenced disc tracks.

Regarding to the translation of "Even of 100 Years Ago".. isn't there a chance, since Japanese is based in context, that with the way they use "event" they mean cutscene?

Shouldn't 1-8 (and 1-7) be "Trial Shrine" then? It's a bit more ambiguous, but the monks all say "I offer this trial." Singular. Plus we want consistent naming.

Yes. Thanks for catching that. I must have written "field" without thinking.

No. The Japanese is 100年前の出来事. Another translation would be "The Incident from 100 Years Ago".

Nintendo's official translation is Shrine of Trials: https://www.zelda.com/breath-of-the-...ials-gameplay/

It's also written differently from the other two:
1-08 試練
1-35 祝福
5-39 英傑

So I got my copy today, but this Play Button (I guess that's Disc 6?).. is it battery operated? Came with USB cord, but that doesn't seem like it's used to charge it. Not sure if the battery is replaceable. Didn't want to take it apart and ruin it if not.

Does anyone have a good image of the front of the box? I'm not really a fan of the one that's on this page since it's not straight.
