Interesting. I wasn't expecting Dog Ear Records to pick this up. A four disc OST by Shimomura. Should be interesting. The samples on the website for the game are pretty nice.

Could ACE+ be the duo ACE* (Chico, Kudo)? It would make some sort of sense, given that CHiCO has worked with these artists before (in some regard)
*Thanks to the_miker for pointing this out. |

I moved ACE+ to performer for now and didn't link them yet, just in case.

According to the producer, the score involves more than just Mitsuda and Shimomura, who is the lead composer, but it does not give names. Guess we'll have to wait until the release. |

Great find, Don. I wonder who was chosen to fill in the gaps?

Today's post reveals the names of several of the performers. I recognized Kira's right off, but the others I don't know. Could someone more proficient at reading names check this out? |

They are Tomohiko Kira (guitar), Hitoshi Watanabe (bass), Yoshihiko Ishizaka (piano), Yasuo Sano (drums) and Hitoshi Konno Strings.

Nice to see that many talented performing on this score. I'm really excited how it will turn out, but I'm already happy that we're obviously not going to see something that's produced entirely on computer/synthesizer.

I updated all the artist info using information from this interview. It looks like ACE added Kenji Hiramatsu to their group and renamed themselves to ACE+. I'll let somebody else handle that part.

Based on the interview, I think Manami Kiyota and ACE+ should migrate into the composer field. I don't doubt they will also eventually perform something, but for now their roles look like composers.
I'm also not sure how to handle ACE+, but an alias might be a solution (we treat jdk Band as the alias of J.D.K. Band even though the members were totally replaced). |

ACE's case is rather confusing because it seems we have to edit some other albums. For example, Emil Chronicle Online 4th Anniversary soundtrack: in the composers field, Hiramatsu is included in ACE, but in the booklet, it says:

A tracklist translation has just been submitted. This is a very high-profile album, so we are going to want to check it over carefully and improve it if it is needed.

Maybe those should be rendered simply as "Kishin" and "Kyoshin", as they are on the official website. It seems that that's the way they'll be named if there's ever an American release.

106 -> i thought of using feelings, but feelings is maybe too romantic especially if the thoughts the person has aren't of that nature
109 -> i also thought of that one, but i find the latter so common =) 116 -> this is the expression a face does, but like you, i didn't find a better wording 421,420 i used Giant like those gods from the Greek mythology (but honestly, my first idea was to leave kyoshin/kishin) EDIT: maybe Countenance Last edited by Phonograph; Jun 13, 2010 at 02:11 PM. |

106 - I agree, though since the game makes a big deal of 'bonds' and whatnot I thought 'feelings' would fit more. But with no context who knows.
109 - Interesting! To me it sounded a bit plain (kinda like 'eating an apple') but so is my choice I guess. Other thoughts? 116 - Good one. 421,420 - maybe Titan would work. But with no correspondence for the Machine God, I feel a bit is lost to the reader. As using for kyoshin/kishin, I think it's better to translate since the concept is the same in English (these guys are literally a giant/mechanical god) and to not leave the reader wondering. I bet they'll use some fancy words a la Titan-Colossus for the US version and we can edit it later but meanwhile I think Giant God is vague enough that I'll be recognizable no matter the name. |

actually, i thought about "Field Around the Deus Machina"
EDIT1: i was probably a bit tired when i wrote that, sorry the world of the mecha god isn't necessarily where the big piece of junk is ^^; (about just using Giant, note that Aegir is a Jotun and basically a Jotun is just a Giant) -> check wikipedia: first "aegir", then click "jotun" (maybe instead of Giant, Jotun could be a good replacement no? <- EDIT2: actually no ahah) Last edited by Phonograph; Jun 22, 2010 at 07:15 AM. |

Jotun is also used in Guild Wars Eye of the North for a creature type that's basically a Giant.

i edited my tracklist, using Looks finally
(ok time to explain why "Field of the Mechs", what's the World of the Mechanical God? basically it's the world where machines live/are created, so i think it's not necessarily wrong if it's said like that, no?) (edit: or Field of the Machinae?) Last edited by Phonograph; Jun 22, 2010 at 08:04 AM. |

So, wasn't Shimomura supposed to be the lead composer? She only has three tracks (11 technically, though 8 were arranged by other artists).
Weird... |

Having finally made it through all four discs, I'd say this is an early contender for the worst soundtrack of the year. Holy crap.

I've been listening to this for a while and its not BAD but its not amazing either. It sounds like its a very functional score in the context of the game and has that PS1 era RPG sound. The problem is that most of the slow emotional/sad tracks are too long and repeat the same part over and over. I don't see why so many of these tracks need to be 3 or 4 minutes when there is no development within the tracks themselves such as new melodies or changes. It is even more obvious how repetitive some tracks are when compared to the complexity in tracks such as Conspiracy.
