Default Contra Force/Arc Hound

I was just watching 'Game Sack' on youtube and they covered Contra Force in their bad games reviews, but played a little of the music and WOW! What a great and classic Konami sound, reminds me a little of Salamander and Contra of course.

Anyone else familiar with the music from this game?

Yeah, the music is by far the best part of the game.

It's not a bad game... it's just not a -Contra- game.

Glad someone else feels this way. Most of the time I see bad reviews, they tend to erroneously bash the music as well for no apparent reason.

I've always had a soft spot for Contra Force even though it wasn't really a Contra game, & I'd love to hear some more arrangements.

Here's one that's alright.

Even as an original game Contra Force is still pretty mediocre. The Gradius power-up system was implemented rather poorly (since it forces the player to grind for briefcases if he wants to arm all of his characters with their best weapons and abilities) and because the NES can't handle all the destroyable environments, the action runs way too slowly compared to the proper Contra entries on the same platform. The playable characters are also poorly balanced, with Beans being the worst offender (his explosives are pretty useless). The only characters you will ever need are Burn (since he's the only one with a proper automatic weapon) and Iron (since his flamethrower is pure cheese against bosses).

Yep, this soundtracks owns. But that's no surprise since it's Konami in its glory days. I agree with Foxhack, the game is pretty decent, but because it has the Contra title slapped onto it, it tends to get a bad wrap. Also check out Crisis Force. It features the same sound team. You might even hear some similarities.
