Default Public Submission of Website Links

Users can now attach website links to albums by selecting "Manage Links" in an album's edit menu.

Submission is fairly straightforward, as there is a field for the url, and one for the title. If you leave the title blank, it will try to parse the html title tag; keep in mind that sometimes it has trouble with foreign language encodings, so you may have to manually enter it anyway. The website type is broken into 4 categories:

Official - An official page put up by the album's production company
Reference - Any source that contains important data about the album
Review - Reviews that cover the album
Commercial - Sites other than the official site where the album can be purchased

Previously this capability was restricted to staff and editors, but the completion of a website moderation queue allows this to be opened to the public.

For the moment, public submission of web links is restricted to the album pages, but I'll enable it for artists and organizations once it has been sufficiently tested.

A reminder here: when you add website links for albums, make sure the page is dedicated specifically to that album, i.e. don't link the front page of a publisher.

Users can now submit artist links as well. The form is on the Edit Artists page.

are archive.org versions of album pages permitted? and what about composer home pages? i can imagine the latter may not be kosher.

Yeah, you can stick '(Archived)' in the title.

Composer homepages should go in artist profiles, unless it's a specific page on the website that introduces the album.

I don't know what other submitters think of, but wouldn't it be better to keep the 'APPLY' box checked by default? Every time when we edit the title of the link or make the link inactive, we also have to click that checkbox as well as the update button... Probably I'm too lazy, though.

Actually, the way it should work is it should detect when you've made a change, and automatically click the checkbox.

Otherwise, I'm not sure why we have the checkbox, except maybe to prevent accidental changes to a link.

I've been meaning to write some javascript that ticks the checkbox automatically. I'll do it tonight.
